Well he can expand his trade list then if he wants out so bad. No reason for Detroit to not get full value. He signed an 8 year contract and has 5 left, he’s the one wanting to break the relationship not Detroit
yeah yeah yeah when do we get to the part where Detroit fans accept how the NHL actually works?

Lets put them on and realise Thomas didnt get traded for those prices, and doesnt look like hes getting traded now either. Now the next closest thing is available, similar player with a slight age difference. We're going to pretend the same offers might not go for this guy, but this time it could actually be accepted? Pretend that a team wanting to win might not pivot and offer those same assets here? These players arent drastically different
"Slight age difference"

Okay lol. Thomas was in his age 26 season, Larkin is entering his age 30 season.

Thomas you would get his age 26-31 season, larkin you get his age 30-34 seasons.

Larkins prime is almost certainly the years he's had before now, not the ones he's about to have

It’s only low if you think you’re going to get a 20 year old Larkin for 30 year old Larkin.
Just so you know at age 19 Larkin scored 45 pts in the NHL. At age 21 he scored 63. Desnoyers is 19 now and his likely best case would be Larkin. So many people on these boards seem to believe all young prospects will turn into superstars.

I'm sure Larkin will be a real treat in the locker room if detroit doesn't honour his trade request!

You can pick any number of 30+ year olds who have a down year or show signs of decline. The value plummets.

But I'm sure larkin stuck in detroit will have his best year yet!
Drouin had his career year after Yzerman denied his trade request.

Probably when you accept the fact that you don’t know jack shit about what will happen either and every comparator you’ve given has been a truly terrible one that is irrelevant to the current situation

Yes buying a players age 26-31 seasons are significantly more valuable than buying a players age 30-34 seasons

trade value should be looked at in the context of the assets at the time, especially when it comes to future picks and even more so later picks

Evaluating a GMs ability to draft is an entirely different discussion and has nothing to do with trades.

And again you're only gonna do it one way.

Did you know Yzerman gave up Brock Faber for Theodor Niederbach and Sam Stange!
That he gave up jordan binnington for erik brewer
That he gave up Wyatt Johnson for Cossa

Trust me, I'm well aware of Yzerman's failings. You are missing the point of you think I'm saying that Yzerman is perfect. The point is that he's no different than any other GM. There will be moves that look brilliant, there will be moves that look braindead.

The people downplaying Larkin because their mystery box prospect will be the next McDavid is always good comedy.

Never change HFBoards.
