BUF fans want to sell Cozens as a young 30G - 70PT C locked up to a long-term $7.1M/yr contract...everyone else sees him & wants to buy him as a 15G - 35PT W on a contract that's double his value. There's no happy-medium that can really be reached, and BUF honestly is probably best-off just keeping him if they think he'll develop into anything nearly worth his contract because the current risk for other teams spending assets to acquire a potential anchor contract is too high

Not too much of a risk.. he can be bought out at a third of his contract for another year.... buti think Buffalo should just hold on to him and hope for a rebound and buy him out if he doesn't..as opposed to just selling low.

Kind of like the Canes and Kotkaniemi, if they want to move on from him there's no reason to give up assets in an effort to trade him when his buyout cap hit would be like $800k/yr

How I see it with Nashville at least; unless they intend to send us Josi and Novak for Cozens and Jokiharju; I really don't have any interest in anything else they have to offer.

Don't want futures or draft picks

Cozens still has another year before his contract becomes a concern.
Is this in reference to the ability to buy him out is still 1/3 the contract value due to his age? Not exactly a ringing endorsement on his trade value I’d imagine.

Edit: I see you mentioned that above this.

Thats low even by low standards for him. Its a 50+ point player with upside.

It was brought up on the 32 thoughts podcast that teams are calling Buff about Dylan Cozens.

Now I personally think trading him would be a massive mistake in a long line of massive mistakes, Sam, Reinhart, ROR, Jack Eichel, even Evander Kane

And yes I know Tage was acquired for ROR but still ROR went on to win a cup, playoff MVP and the Selke.

Jack won a cup

Reinhart won a cup

Kane went to game 7 of the finals.

They shouldn't do this, they should keep Cozens.

But if they do what does a Cozens deal look like?
Someone said McTavish for Cozens swap.

I agree. You'd do a hockey trade with Cozens. A one for one where the player coming back to Buffalo is of similar age and is or will be getting a new deal soon.

Say Cozens for K'Andre Miller?

Buffalo's trade of Mitts for Byram comes to mind here.

We don't need another LD with Dahlin, Byram and Power in the lineup and we also have Samuelsson sometimes. That's the last position we need.

I'd take the best player you can get for Cozens. He's not carrying much value right now at his AAV. So trying to get value and a position of need for Cozens is making that deal increasingly unlikely as a W for Buffalo.

If you moved Cozens for a LD... you're probably moving one of Byram or Power in another deal for a better young forward than Cozens.

So trade Miller for this player, what's the problem?

Does Severson make any sense as a target, or you want someone younger to grow with the core?
I'm not a fan of Severson, we need a solid guy on defense, from what I've seen he hasn't been that. I've seen a lot of Severson trades on another site and it seems like Columbus fans just want to get rid of this contract. So I wouldn't trade Cozens for Severson.

More so get rid of the player. We thought he would be next to Werenski for 8 years but for whatever reason they just don’t work. Fabbro looks better there. Mateychuk is pushing and CBJ seem to be Ok with Provorov playing his off side. Gudbranson is going to come back at some point too so we don’t know what to do.
