Value of: Dylan Cozens

Ok, so I think we again need to clarify here because there seems to be some confusion: Buffalo is not interested in trading Cozens for a clearly worse hockey player plus whatever spare parts you found lying around in your team’s junk drawer. Thanks for the offers, though.
To add to this:

Cozens would be part of a PACKAGE to UPGRADE the 1C/2C position on the roster. If Cozens is moved, he's the 2nd best current NHL player. The best current NHL player in any deal involving Cozens would be coming to BUFFALO.

Or a 1-for-1 where we get older but better now, while the other team gambles on Cozens’ upside.

Because teams are always looking to downgrade their legit scoring line center for a guy who can't act in that role even though his contract pays him as such for like 6 more years.

I get what you're saying in what the Sabres should be looking for in a deal - but those type of deals very rarely happen. It's like saying "We're only looking to make a deal that we very obviously win." If it's an obvious win - the other team has to be desperate to make that kind of deal. Kind of like a deal where the organization doesn't want a player to have a surgical procedure he thinks is necessary. I don't see an organization that is in desperation mode to make that kind of deal and bend over for KA.

If you want a legit 1st line center in return, Cozens very likely has to be the 3rd best current NHL’er in the deal, ie: Power or Byram are also involved.

That's right, and guy like Tuch could have been involved, or it would have been a package deal. We need legit good vet RD (Weegar, Pulock etc).

Kirby Dach has 9 points in 30 games and Newhook has 6 points in 30 games. Combined they make it to a replacement level 41 points in 82 games for an offensive player. You still add to that mess to any significant value back, let alone Cozens.

I get that Dach and Newhook arent that good this year... as Cozens. This proposal is all about what they did previously.

I mean Dach’s one good year was pace for 53 points before getting hurt and Newhook’s was pace for 50 before getting hurt. Cozens season was actually potting 31 goals and 68 points, they aren’t comparable.

That's probably not true.

Because A kevin Adams would be making the deal and he's not good at his job.

And B if there were a better player in the deal that player VERY likely has some form of trade protection and probably isn't waving to go to Buffalo

Good players are moved in package deals all the time for a multitude of reasons not just "desperation". In that scenario Cozens would merely be a piece in that package. In order to get a legitimate top 6 center Buffalo would clearly be adding significantly to Cozens, I don't think anyone thinks otherwise.

If they're moved all the time - what was the last player who you would be happy acquiring? If you exclude the Sabres deals - are we talking Sam Bennett to FLA or PLD to WIN 3+ years ago?

Between the cap and more players having trade protection, "real" hockey trades are very difficult to make now-a-days. It's even more difficult to stack up multiple pieces for a significant upgrade - especially when one of those pieces is already making $7M per year long term. I'm not saying it's impossible - but it seems like the original comment was one of those "we're only going to make a trade we win" comments that you see all the time on HF.

Sam Bennett would absolutely be one of those guys. Bo Horvat, Tomas Hertl, hell even Adam Henrique are just a few names that come to mind that have recently moved. The one caveat being it would require a GM that does more than sit on his hands all day every day to get one of these guys. Unfortunately that's all Adams is good at.

If my mom's had a penis, she'd be my dad...

The problem being: who's gonna give a superior player for one that is underperforming and is payed big money for not so great results?

The NHL is no kindergarten, where they give medals to everyone.

Nobody's gonna do a favor to Sabres just because they inspire pity as an organization...

Dylan Cozens career low in points is only 2 points lower than Kakko career high when looking at their full seasons.
Not sure why you're comparing the 2
Same age. Lots of disappointment. High expected return. Same draft year. Kakko isnt tied into a massive contract like Cozens is. Kakko is producing proportionally to his paycheck and has as many points as cozens this year while making 4.5 million less. Didnt realize after 1.5 seasons of falling production people would look to that 1 season with a bloated shooting % as his standard instead of the rest of his career. Plenty of reasons.

Cozens still has another year before his contract becomes a concern.

When did Krappo score 30 goals in a season? I'll hang up and listen.
You mean that 1 season where his shooting% was 5.7% higher than any other season in his career while simulatenously putting more shots on net than any other season? So that one season that likely will never be reproduced and if he shot his typical 9.0% wouldve ended up with 19G?

Yep, that one when he was dragging two rookies around and still nearly out assisted Krappo's best season thus far.
