No, but there's a few guys on Flames social media and the other Flames-centric forum that have some ties to the organization. They've been dead right on a number of occasions, so when they tend to talk about something it's worth a listen. Also pretty good at feeling the pulse of the team, which tends to differ from the fan opinion.

Yeah. I think they started talking about the Markstrom trade a lot earlier than most flames fans thought made sense? They also mentioned trade value that blew our socks off. The original trade fell through, but enough smoke was confirmed that the Devils were likely going to circle back and they did.

For sure don't disagree at all. I'm curious what you view your timeline of "rebuilding" if you want to call it that is? Is it a re-tool? In some ways kind of has to be with Hubs, Weegar, Andersson, Kadri, Coleman, Backlund being your key players. If so then a guy like Rosen who likely could step in today and contribute some should hold higher value than a future 1st and second from a late round contender. If it's a rebuild and several years of true development is the priority then maybe shop for that 1st and 2nd from a better team than the Sabres.

Rightfully of wrongfully, management and coaching have basically implied they expect the team back in playoffs in about 2-3 seasons. Basically a retool via rebuild.

They want to foster a winning mentality and add long term talent to that via savvy moves and draft. Conroy has continued what Treliving did well. Finding value, especially via targeting RFAs. But he's not typically interested in trading high firsts for those types of guys.

Your guess that near NHL ready top picks/reclamation projects might be more interesting than late firsts and seconds is correct.

Would Buffalo be looking for a current NHL center as the main piece in return for Cozens or would they take a center prospect?

I suppose it would depend on the level of prospect and how close said prospect is to actually being productive at an NHL level.

But really......we'd be looking for a current NHL center, preferably with term, who could slide into a 2C role with us.

The Sabres are well beyond making their team worse today in the hopes that maybe 10 years from now they might be better. The only way I could see the team seriously entertaining the idea of trading Cozens is if you’ve got a long-term piece (so not a 35yo or a player on a short-term contract) that fits better now.

Seems like holding onto Cozens and hoping he turns it around is the best move then.

I just don't see a fit between the Sabres and Flames for Cozens. Given that we don't have Mitts anymore and that McLeod is fitting in perfectly as our 3C, we'd need a legit 2C coming back.......that isn't already 34 years old with 3 more years left on his contract.

We're certainly NOT trading Cozens for a Flames Dman (given the Mitts-for-Byram swap). And we're not trading him for a prospect, given that our stated goal is to win now.
Rumour is the Canucks are targeting Byram. With Petersson facing alot of scrutiny playing in Canada, as a Buffalo fan would you take Elias Petersson for Cozens & Byram?

At the start of the season I would've jumped at a Cozens for Rossi trade, assuming that the money could be worked out, but not now.

It's basically the worst time to be moving Cozens, right now. Wait till he starts producing. Nobody wants to pay 7M/yr for a guy on pace to score 25 pts. for a full season, nvm give up a good player.

I do that in less than a heartbeat......which probably means it isn't enough.

I'd certainly do Cozens, Byram and another solid piece for EP40.

Where do you see/hear that Vancover is after Byram?

media is pushing the rumour, sources say the Canucks tried to acquire Byram & Newhook for Miller a few years back but the Avs said no (thankfully).

Most likely it would be Hoglander as the main piece going back which isn’t popular because he is a fan favourite but I can see it making sense for both teams.

Cozens + Byram for EP40 could be a big win for both teams, as I think they could use a change of scenery. A big Canadian born centre playing behind Miller would be well received

It'd be the Sabres way, though. And how else are they gonna keep up their beautiful little tradition of giving talented young centers to other teams in order for them to win or compete for the cup?
