Thornton has had a few flat out bad games but I can't remember a year where i've seen him had as many bad shifts in individual games as this year.

I'll bite on this. He's had several flat out bad games and I'm not thrilled with him. But at the end of the day he is putting up points so there are many people I'd blame before him.

I agree. He and Marleau and Couture are the only forwards that pose a threat right now. Burns doesn't really count.

You have to admit that Thornton has had some really bad games this year. Marleau, on the other hand, has been pretty great as far as I'm concerned.

He has BUT he has had less of them, and more impact in the rest of the games, than just about anyone else on the team not named Marleau. So like I said, as long as "some" means "less than everyone else" then sure. Couture is probably next least on the blame list.

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun My Monday column on the Sharks and how the trade deadline could begin the reset process with their roster, http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/22750/sharks-in-need-of-a-fresh-coat-of-paint …

You’re not going to see a full rebuild in San Jose. It’s a market that despite years and years of sellouts probably wouldn’t support a full bottoming-out and redressing of the roster. In fact, the last time the Sharks missed the playoffs, in 2002-03, it’s believed the club lost around 3,000 season-ticket holders the following offseason.

If theres any truth to this story, and the Sharks lose tonight makes me ponder the thought that DW will not wait until the deadline and do something by the end of the week

Yes, but San Jose just did not miss the playoffs, they had a terrible year...basement dwellers, they were, that year. Plus, they traded the team's only legit franchise player in Nolan...and this is after already having let go of Friesen...

The Fan base is not the same. The Economy is not the same. Ticket Prices are insane. Things will not be the same if they decide on a full rebuild today. :D

Didnt DW state awhile back that "complete rebuilds" were not an option, and he/owners expect to be playoff contenders every season and will make adjustments as they go?

I dont think DW has changed his mind on this.

The fanbase has to be jaded after all those playoff appearances and nothing to show for it. Ticket sales could fall hard with a drop in performance, but hey, everyone is accountable (except Doug).

replace could with would. The ticket costs are so high now they are getting hard to move from a season ticket holders perspective which indicates soft demand or prices higher than the market can withstand.

I wouldnt return Burns to D EVER....or at least until he isnt the hardest working F out there...the kid is having fun competing. Havlat IMO is wasting CAP and isnt the type of player SJ wants going forward. he would be good for 1 mil to 1.3 but that is it...too soft on the puck, doenst have the #'s and is injury prone. DW MOD should buy MH out.

Demoting Murray i somewhat agree with but you need him on the ice right now...the D is soft physically besides Stuey.

Clowe i would agree..brutal but plays with a TON of passion.

Galiardi who???

Look, i somewhat agree with this team and the possibilities but we have listened to this record before...the spark this season is even less than seasons before and it is a shortened season at that...and these guys seem to have lost the spark...turnover is needed.

Todd is that you?

I think that was coming from the owners, the ones who are no longer part of the organization. With Platner in control we just have no idea what he is willing to accept. He clearly wanted total control over this team for some reason though and that is more than likely because he was not happy with the course the team was on. It's not like he went "Oh man, i want to invest more money in this team that will probably never give me a return on investment" since he specifically said he does not expect this team to ever make money and that's not why he bought it.

I think we are going to see big changes this off-season, in one form another.

Don't really mean to intrude, but i'm wondering why the Sharks are struggling right now with the likes of Marleau, Thornton, Couture, Pavelski up front and a very solid backend. I mean a backend with Boyle, Burns, Stuart, Vlasic, Demers, Irwin should be top 5 in the league IMO.

Besides forward depth, what's the problem? Chemistry? Lack of heart? Key players struggling? With all this talent it's just boggling why the Sharks have struggled in recent years.

Biggest problem is Coaching. Next is that some of the players are struggling/not working hard.

You will get very mixed answers on this. One group of SJ fans blames the players for being too old, slow and not a high enough compete level. The other half will say its our coach not getting the players to play faster, and harder.

I think its truely is up in the air who is right here, and it quite possibly is both those things which is why its so easy to argue either side of that debate.

There is no doubt something is wrong though, this team IS too talented to be playing this way, so whether its horrible chemistry or bad coaching, something needs a fixin.

Coaching and the players are pretty stupid.
