Babe Pratt - WikipediaAnd what was the purpose to that Babe patch?
Pratt collapsed and died of a heart attack in the media lounge of the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver during the first intermission of a Canucks game on December 16, 1988. The Canucks honored Pratt's memory by stitching "BABE" on their sweaters for the remainder of the hockey season.
Babe Pratt was a pretty popular figure with the team at the time, IIRC. Of course, when someone dies suddenly it's not unexpected that those around him would want to memorialize him. That was the name coming to mind. But I didn’t wanna say anything because my luck they woulda been like, a porn star or something. And weird that I remember that because it’s from before I even knew hockey existed.
There’s a couple of subtle changes between the old Columbus 3rd and their new sweater. It went from an all red collar to red and white, they took out the black for the arms and shoulders and the bottom, and took out the three stars.
But man, the black and blue are very subtle in difference. I can’t imagine how hard that’d have been to tell on TV
OT, but I liked their experiment with the blue pants last year:
Matt Duchene - Blue Jackets (18-19) - 23 GP, 4 G, 8 A, 12 PTS; Playoffs: 10 GP, 5 G, 5 A, 10 PTS
47 skaters have suited up for one game as a New York Ranger. Only one player scored in his only game as a Blueshirt. Signed as a free agent, Doug Wickenheiser played just one game on October 8, 1988 and scored an empty net goal. He was subsequently scratched and sent to the minors and then released. He was signed by the Washington Capitals.
We know Neely as a Bruin. Do we know him as a Boston Re-brand Bruin? Or wearing Nike?!
Or that he could have worn the Pooh Bear jersey?!
I can't find a picture of it, but my research is showing that Cam Neely would've worn the Pooh Bear exactly once - January 27th, 1996 vs. the Rangers. In this Boston Globe article on the left he is reported as having punched Ulf Samuelsson in the head several times.
That was the day they debuted the third jerseys. This article lists the other games the Bruins were scheduled to wear Pooh Bears. Neely did not play February 3rd vs. Buffalo or February 10th vs. Philly, then played one more game in Anaheim on February 27th and was ruled out the rest of the season.
It turns out, the Pooh Bear debut game was Cam Neely's final home game in Boston. The remaining 5 games of his career were on the road.
Although Thomas did play with the Lightning during the 1999-2000 preseason (that Ricky Martin concert was 10/22/99: Ricky Martin Setlist at Ice Palace, Tampa), I don't believe that is him.
According to this roster, that goalie is Trevor Koenig.
Edit: I think this is the same season where Andy Bezeau was traded for a washing machine.
Edit 2: The trade that involved Bezeau being traded for two used equipment dryers was voided and he was eventually traded to the Vipers... in 1997.
Zarley Zaplaski?
I've been a big fan of him a long time but I honestly never knew Tim Thomas went to a Lightning camp.
I know he attended the Oilers training camp in the fall of 1998 I think and played for them in the pre season. Would be cool to see a pic of him in an Oilers jersey.
He almost played a full season for them but I still find it weird going through my card collection and seeing this card of Jaroslav Modry.
Manny Legace I believe was a backup with no game action for the Whalers to start his NHL career.

Good find for Legace there. Now somebody needs to find a picture of him sitting on the bench in Canucks jersey.
From his 1999 tryout, but Legace in a Canucks sweater...
