So DeAngelo after playing 6 (!) NHL games would make having Vatanen redundant?

I guess Ducks don't need Vatanen at all then either as Theodore is better prospect than DeAngelo.

Yep if we do trade Vatanen we need more then just Duclair and am sure we would get a better offer.

The Ducks roster would look transformed with a young, cheap, scoring winger.

But i just dont see where that would come from. The expansion draft is really going to hurt Vatanen's value to many teams maxed out in protected dmen. And his salary isnt insignifigant. And he has struggled a tad this year. And the ducks could really use someone on an ELC to give them TDL wiggleroom.

I dont doubt Vatanen is more valuable than Duclair. So maybe its Duclair + pick.

But maybe a better, cost controlled option can become available.

It's not DeAngelo > Vatanen

It's DeAngelo + the cost to acquire + relative needs > Vatanen

His emergence was completely unexpected, by the way. Plenty of us thought of Vatanen as a target but the D is not a problem right now.

Does Ceci for Duclair work as the base of a deal?
No. Ceci is older, more expensive, worse, and he plays a position of non-scarcity for the Coyotes.

Thread is tl;dr ... has this "source" gotten more credible since page 2? Trading Duclair would be an awful decision.

Duclair was good last year but he isn't that good his shooting 19% isn't something he would be able to maintain. This year he hasn't been producing much granted his average time on ice isn't that much but he should still be producing more then he has. Adding him to our team wouldn't make us a better team even with him improving our forward group because losing Vatanen even with him not being as good overall this year would still hurt us more.

Yes trading Vatanen would open up more room for moves before TDL but that isn't a good enough reason to trade him. If we trade Vatanen we should get back more then a 1 hit wonder. Coyotes adding a pick is better then doing a 1 for 1 but still not enough IMO.

I know that trading Vatanen would help with expansion draft, help us with cap space and we have good defenseman prospects but trading him for so low value would just suck.

Rumors are that is part of the reason why the Rangers traded him.

Yeah, in short, my take is that he probably is a good kid, but does he have "elite" character? Probably not. Just going what I've seen from him on the ice, there are a few signals hands down.

With that said, I gladly take him back to NY and work with him. NYR sold high for sure, don't for a second think we would have had anything against having the kid around unless we got good value for him.

What is Arizona doing?.....shaping as a rebuild of a rebuild....what's story on Duclair?....realize he's in the throes of a sophomore slump, but are his analytics off the charts bad?....trading a young winger at the bottom of the market makes little sense to me for a team locked into a lottery position anyway.

well moving Stone makes sense because I dont see why he would resign in Arizona.

But yeah, I dont really get whats going on with Duclair. Doesn't make much sense to me

not trading Vatanen for Duclair. The ducks defense looks pretty ugly when you subtract one of the big 3

lol vatenan sucks at actual defensive play, he seems to get worse with time, forwards just bull rush him behind our own net, because he is prone to huge turnovers at key times. Now take away the fact that he isn't adding offense. Plz BM get his 5million out of town so we can keep our other young studs

Vatanen isn't horrible defensively he does have his weakness and his size is one. He is struggling this season giving up on him so fast and trading him away for a winger who only had 1 good NHL season and is struggling this season is just terrible. If we trade Vatanen we need something much better then Duclair. If we trade Vatanen we will then replace him with who on the blueline?

I can see it. It's like a sell-off in those clicks per second money generation games - ie: cookie clicker. Start a rebuild, sell off rebuild for more picks, restart rebuild. Pretend you've done the math, charted the potentials, and oops, with all the pieces in your system, you are only going to be a 2nd round play-off team. Sell these pieces, merge with your next 2-3 years of picks, and hopefully, this new rebuild will have a higher net value than the last. It had more resources after all. If you keep the current pieces and try to compete, your always going to be a step behind.

I am probably doing a terrible job explaining, but I can sort of get what they might be thinking.

Duclair + 2nd and I make the deal, montour is basically the same type of player, but a lot cheaper and is getting a lot better each passing month. This is a type of deal I could see happening at the deadline though ( also gives montour even more time to develop ) edit vatenan isn't that young, I can't expect much more " development " but expect montour to make leaps and bounds of development.

Duclair is far from untouchable but I highly doubt GM Chayka is actively shopping him. More likely he is willing to listen to offers as any GM would be.
