2-1-1 versus two good, one mid, and one bad team. The sky is falling and fire the coach. I’m actually pretty happy with this start. Doomsayers, please tell me where I’m wrong.
It isn't the results that are the problem. In fairness, the state of play has been poor in two games (San jose, Colorado) and fine to good in two games (Vegas, Utah). I suppose that is to be expected with a young, (probably) not good team.

I don’t like the PK approach. Passive, no attempt to pressure the puck. Opponent can play with the puck and move it wherever they want to.

I think if we went the aggressive approach, our inexperience and lack of elite PKers will just lead to lots of blown coverages, quick goals, or exhausted PKers. Instead we've gone with a prevent defense, lean on the goalies, and just try to run the clock out.

No amount of scheming can cover up the fact that we just don't have the horses for a good kill unit.

someone mentioned last night that the PP's main issue is that they're spending too much time on the perimeter and it really makes a lot of sense

they simply don't have someone like kreider or perry who can cause havoc in the crease, or someone like point who can set up for a quick shot in the slot. so instead, they just settle for low quality shots and hope they go in or that someone jumps on a rebound

In theory, McTavish should be a great fit for the slot position, but it seems obvious that he isn't used to it at all. He does not seem to know what to do in that spot.

The reason the puck is on the perimeter the entire time is that the players never move, except maybe a few feet back and forth from their set positions. No passing lanes are ever going to open up if all you do is move the puck around the outside, It's almost like they're trying to wear down the penalty killers and wait (hope) for one good chance, instead of creating their own chances with constant movement.

It's the same thing that's plagued the PP for years, no matter who the personnel or the coaches are.

This is bang on. Look at the Avs PP. Tons of movement. D switching sides. Confusing the Pkers. We have zero of that. Stationary as all can be.

Special teams are very concerning to me. I think even strength has been decent. I think Verbeek has done a good job of rebuilding and I’m agnostic on Cronin. Re HD, I got off the Murray/Eakins bus a long time ago.

Hilarious. You were blaming Eakins forever and a day about the special teams as well as citing that I was wrong in citing it's the asst coaches that were in charge of the special team. Took you years to realize how blindingly wrong you were. If you don't have a history to see standards, then you'll never notice if today was better years past. Just keep pushing the goal post.

We earned 3 points because of bad goalies, which isn't our problem, but it sure is much needed context. It's only been four games to be doomsayers. Yet, it's okay to criticize bad product that has been outputted. Our 5v5 offense remains dull, which is what it looked like for most of last season. Again, thank goodness for bad goalies b/c we probably would have scored fewer goals up to now on top of our dullness.

I blame most of our problem to black of defensive centers specifically faceoff specialists and team mentality / aggressiveness.

We lose faceoffs and then back leaning backwards / prevent defense instead of forward leaning / trying to win the puck.

Any time we take a chance on aggressive play we get burnt on out man attack.

I am consistent in holding the head coach responsible for lousy special teams. Cronin is responsible now, as Eakins was then.
