My favorite moment was the 3v3 line of niku Conner and taney. I was sitting in my chair well....ok pomo that's wild. I wouldn't have been mad if they got scored on because it was so out there. Then Tanev made a 125 foot pass...backwards. almost looked like a icing attempt only reverse.

Wasnt even upset at that just chuckled.
Yeah I sat up when I saw those three on

This is how I've felt all along. Season's ebb and flow with down times and up times. But the top teams find ways to pile up the points as needed. This is just what we have been doing. In the process have virtually locked up a playoff spot by mid January. As we move down the stretch post all star break I expect us to become more focused and play a tighter game. Just as we did last season.
Bob Mackenzie on the big show today talked about inconsistency that exists with every top team in the league, minus the Lightning.

We seem to be under the misconception that we are the only top team that is winning ugly, that battles with inconsistency, when in fact every team shows similar patterns. As you stated, as long as your talent allows you to gather points while not at your best, you will make post season, at which time you need to have your game and system running at optimal levels.

Further to this, many have a revisionist view of how last year played out, that we were firing on all cylinders for most of the season. It was not anything like that, that this season is almost mirroring last season in terms of ebbs and flows, highs and lows.

Lightning were flying last season just like this season, until mid-January when they went through their rough patch. Curious to see if that happens again, at a similar point in their season.

I think Tuesday's game has been circled on the calendar for quite some time. Although our lineup is pretty compromised, I expect the Jets will be pretty pumped for this game and looking to take it to Vegas.

Pretty embarrassing game for the Ducks, couldn’t even beat us without Buff, Ehlers and Myers. We need our troops back but a nice, satisfying win.

Niku looked good in OT and Little is heating up. Nice to see Laine pot one, hope he can get going again.

Tanev was excellent again. Hellebuyck solid.

Overall, good game from our boys. Outworked a team in Anaheim who should be desperate.
I totally agree with everything you said except in no way shape or form was Helly solid . Hope he figures it out sooner than later , start covering up pucks , stop with all the rebounds and stop playing the puck so much .

Feel like the top pairing has been hung out to dry by the top line a bit lately.

100% this ^

Our top line is even more of a T2T fighter now that accepts trading chances. They are not giving up allot of odd man rushes but they do not defend with vigor especially when they get caught out too long.

and then Niku made this really nice O zone play and connor also hit the post.
it was fun.

I loved it. Very out there, but interesting experiment. Lowry out there to win the face off, then goes off to allow three very good skaters to take advantage of the 3 on 3. Fun to watch. :thumbu:

4th game in 6 days with 3 big pieces out... Good win.

Trouba was fantastic.

Hellebuyck redeemed himself in OT.

Really satisfying to beat the Ducks.

Nice to see Niku with some usage after a really shaky start to his time with the Jets.

Tonight I feel like we started seeing elements of what Niku might bring at this level. I like the idea of a D man off the 3rd pairing that takes the deeper foray into the O zone to put pressure on the other team. He has that 4th attacker talent and looks dam good at it already.

He just needs to play to his strengths which will mean less defending......even when defending last night his M2M coverage was fine and he was able to be physical enough on board battles to not get dummied. He is far from flawless but what I really liked is I saw the beginning of him gaining confidence in him playing "his" style and having it work. Hopefully when Myers is back they give Joe a rest and keep Sami rolling for an extended period to let him get the reps and grow. I see zero downside to that approach for now.

The way the Ducks played last night would have given any team fits. It always amazes me how so many people just cannot credit how the opposition plays and simply has to rip into how bad the Jets were. We obviously focus more on our own team's play but much of it has to do with how the other team performs. The Ducks played an inspired, hard game yesterday, they were quick, aggressive, their D moved the puck well and they were fast in transition. Yet they still lost, and likely would have in regulation if not for Chiarot's Harry Kane impersonation on the first goal.

The Ducks record going in is irrelevant. They are still an NHL team and more than capable of playing well against anyone. To believe the Jets should have just clown pounded them based on their losing streak is just simplistic. It's one game, take what you want from that sample, in reality the Jets beat that team 7 times out of 10, they are a much better team in the long run.

Especially without Buff , Ehlers and Myers playing , just goes to show the depth this team has .

i won't disagree with you.
not sure if it's hung out to dry or if they're best suited to have Buff back there when they play.

we're at the odd time of the schedule. ASG is down the road. these games have meaning but they're kind of mindless/meaningless. the Jets had everything to prove last year and not as much to prove this year, and i feel that's what we're seeing in their play.

I really don't know what to make of this team. we're theoretical Cup contenders. Jets fans would tell you that, based on what we see, they have no right to be Cup contenders. we're all hoping this ship will right itself. it's been an odd season (1st line's dominating without dominating. Laine owned the league for 1 month and then completely disappeared, our Vezina finalist is playing average at best) and you think/hope that everyone will pull it together at the right time. or...they don't.

Good post and the bolded is pretty much red meat for the most common non Laine debate on our board.

I am not oblivious to the process vs results debate and I feel it too. This will all come down to if the team finds another gear when games become more meaningful.....If they do then I am 100% fine with how we went about this......If we get to the playoffs and our top guys seem burnt out and we never really flick the switch and start playing playoff hockey then I will question the path and I will have serious questions and concerns but I will cross that bridge when we come to it.

long season and its not unusual for talented teams that know they are going to be in the playoffs to pace themselves. That is what it is feeling like to me for now but I reserve the right to be wrong.

I think I'd be very okay with a couple of years of:

Morrisey - Trouba
Kulikov - Buff
Niku - Samberg

No disrespect to Myers who has been playing better in the last 20 games or so. But to me that looks affordable and good.

Niku was good last night, especially when out there with the 2nd line. He was much better than Morrow not even debateable, when Myers comes back, Sammy needs to stay in the lineup.

I love how he looks for the quick pass up the ice right away, and make it when it's there. The Jets could use more of that at times.

Teams come into our builiding and play every game like a playoff game otherwise they will get blown out or that is what they fear. We are a team that everyone fears.
Yup. I think that teams do much more game-planning and are more focused facing the Jets this season compared to last season. I find that the Jets' games tend to have more speed and intensity than the large majority of other regular season games. It's like that when other top teams are playing. Opposition plays up. Overall, I think the Jets have handled their screwy schedule pretty well (including the Finland tour), and especially this current heavy stretch without Buff and Ehlers. Last night they played with Chiarot, Morrow and Niku making up half their D.

Trouble is to get to the very top you need a great coach and not a good coach, we saw Maurices limitations in the Vegas series where he had no answers!

It will be interesting to see Tuesday if Maurice learned anything.

It's interesting for all the people who say Pomo can't change the fact he played Tanev in overtime shows he can.
