DUCKS (32-20-10) at KINGS (29-27-4)

1 p.m. PT; NHLN, SN1, FS-W, PRIME, NHL.TV

Ducks team scope

The Anaheim Ducks bolstered their lineup by acquiring forward Patrick Eaves from the Dallas Stars on Friday in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, and he could make his debut against the Los Angeles Kings. "He's been able to put up offensive numbers with good players, and he can be a guy who can fit in with anybody," coach Randy Carlyle said. Eaves, 32, has NHL career-highs of 37 points and 21 goals in 59 games this season. He is fourth in the NHL with 11 power-play goals. Jonathan Bernier is expected to start his second straight game in goal, with Jhonas Enroth as his backup, because John Gibson is injured. The Ducks are tied with the Edmonton Oilers for second place in the Pacific Division, three points behind the first-place San Jose Sharks. The Ducks have won 13 of the past 18 regular-season games against the Kings, including a 1-0 home win on Feb. 19. The Ducks are 3-5-1 in their past nine road games.

Kings team scope

A lack of offense continues to plague the Kings, who have lost five of their past six games at home and
six of eight overall. The Kings have scored eight goals in their past five games, losing four, including 4-1 to the Boston Bruins on Thursday. "When you're not scoring goals, obviously you're not going to win games, but I guess even though we gave up four, we only gave two up with the empty net, so we're happy with that I guess, but we've got to score more goals," defenseman Drew Doughty said. "That's the bottom line. We need to produce from everywhere. We can't have the same guys producing all the time." Peter Budaj is expected to start in goal. The Kings are five points behind the Nashville Predators for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the Western Conference. Los Angeles has the most home games (15) remaining of any NHL team. Coach Darryl Sutter needs one win to pass Andy Murray (215) for first on the Kings' all-time list.

Who's hot

Getzlaf has four points (two goals, two assists) during a three-game point streak. … Carter has 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in the past 13 games. Pearson has eight points (four goals, four assists) in the past six g

gaborik scratched is a surprise but a pleasant one.

two players in Nolan and Quick that bring great attitude

Agreed. And a contrast to Gaborik's game lately.

Nothing really happening at all so far but nice to see Kopitar be a bit more of a puck hog.

Kempe using his skating and strength to shed Fowler was nice to see. He's confident WITH the puck at least.

Quick being back is great but nothing has changed up front. They display zero intensity or urgency to retrieve the puck, and they all look like they've never played with each other before. Zero chemistry. The Carter line in particular has looked awful.

Bad turnover by Toffoli through the middle of the neutral zone leads to Cogliano goal.

Honestly, I think 5 years after the first cup win and 3 years after the last one, I don't think some of these forwards have the legs for the kind of game the Kings are trying to play.

To be effective on the forecheck you have to get in on the defenseman before he can move the puck. That isn't happening with the kind of regularity we would see when the Kings were playing winning hockey.

I will say this... 1 goal on the 11th shot against feels only slightly better than a goal in the first couple shots against. lol

I wonder if the players are as bored of this system as we are of watching this horrible display of hockey. They're not even a physical team anymore. They're ****ing boring.

Yes, the 40th yr of slap shot. I remember watching the three Carlson brothers play high school hockey in Virginia Minnesota. Yes, Carlson. The third brother Jack Carlson, Was not able to make the movie because of his continuing career, so they got a third person from Minnesota who is actually named Hanson, thus the Hanson brothers in the film. Yes, the Carlson brothers could fight but also weren't bad at hockey, especially Steve. Steve played a bit for the Kings I think? After playing for a few teams in the WHA. Jack played on the North Stars. I'm pretty sure at least one of the brothers growing up wore the heavy black Athletic glasses . I've heard before they've had input into the movie. It's my guess it was their idea to have all three of them put glasses on with the tape. They also had input into how the fighting scene should go down. Many of the scenes were based on true stories. Simply classic.

We may be expecting too much if we think Quick's return is going to save the season.
