The Flyers just retained and extended their own. You can have them if you want.

The Duck youngster group was ok last year, but really didn't step up to the point where you had guys assuming roles that you said, "Oh, he is our #1 C or #1D" or "Yeah, we definitely can build a 3rd line around this guy..."

They played ok, terrible at times, really good at times, and hurt a lot at times.

What do you do with that? You have a lot of talented kids and new kids showing up this year, but no one really has stepped up past the point of, "He's got potential!"

So without that happening, you might as well just find a couple solid vets to add some physicality, eat up minutes, and play your system while the kids are still finding themselves. That being said, I'm sure some of those UFA could have been a boon to the club and the development of the kids.

They going the Sixers route of being one of the worst teams in the league for 5+ years. Trust the process

Mostly because the previous GM didn't start a rebuild by trading away players. So this team literally bottomed out with its vets and THEN started a rebuild.

Looks like the Ducks were left at the altar big time on July 1, and they are currently in the enviable position of being $ 6,655,833 below the cap floor.
Indeed their failures were so jarring that they managed to evoke a full article in the Athletic/New York Times.
It's hard to see them spending more than $10m on any of the remaining UFAs, even if they signed multiple, and it seems like they are cruising towards a SJS-esque 2024/2025 season.
They have some money to dish on misfit toys - propose some trades that would see them ice a full roster of warm bodies.

Lots of teams are positioned to pick up bad contracts (Montreal, St. Louis, San Jose and Calgary immediately jump to mind).

Doesn't mean Ducks will be awful, even if its hard to figure out what the short term plan is.

hard to argue they will be good, although every team in the west getting worse other than the oilers will benefit them for sure.

I merged the two threads and changed up the title a little, Ducks still need to hit the Cap Floor. How they do it, is uncertain. UFA signing, Trade/cap dump?

So have at it... Speculation, that is. lol.

Preds need to trim a little Cap. Ducks can have Cody Glass and/or Dante Fabbro for probably not very much? :dunno:

Take Josh Anderson and / or Christian Dvorak off of our hands.
Anderson is a Verbeek style player. Dvorak decent depth behind for 2nd / 3rd line C role left vacant after Henrique left

We probably need <2 year dumps unless the sweetener is too good to pass up. So Dvorak could work as long as he's healthy enough to play and flip this year.

Still think the most likely path to the floor is a Laine trade.

Getting Laine for nothing and seeing what he does would be a good deal. I'm not sure if PV is aggressive enough for that.
