LeBrun: Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, will not sign a contract for next season

Nobody cares if you will laugh out loud about an imaginary Habs poster who said imaginary things that hurt your feelings.

Nobody hurt my feelings. It’s just pure schadenfreude. Taking joy from the misery of Habs fans as their hopes and dreams are crushed. :sarcasm:

They can trade him if they get a good offer of course but no need to trade him for Pennies on the Dollar because other teams smell blood. They have to, at the very least, be willing to let this carry into the season. They don’t lose the rfa rights to him if he doesn’t sign an nhl deal.

It's just hard to imagine a scenario where whatever teams are offering now is lower than mid season if he's sitting out.

I don't think the Jets will get fleeced. They won't be maximizing value on a young top6C, but they'll be able to come away with some good pieces.

Much better scenario than sitting Dubois, and cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I wouldn't want to play for Tortorella either. Despite not wanting to extend in Winnipeg he was, imo, their best forward in the playoffs this year. While the core group of guys wilted, he was physical and productive.

If you have the option not to commit long-term to a situation you don't want to be a part of are you going to be honest about (with yourself and others), or are you going to be a masochist, sign and be unhappy.

He spent three years with the Jets. He'll know all he needs to know to make a decision about his future.

I'd give him a ltd, but it won't have any clauses that limit what happens if he's unhappy again. If he doesn't like that he can go elsewhere.
He wasn’t even close to one of their best forwards in the playoffs, he took multiple stupid penalties that cost the Jets and was outscored 4-9 while on the ice at 5v5.

It’s not easy to be on the ice for 9 goals against at 5v5 in only five games.

The f*** are you talking about? On the Habs board the majority of posters don't even want to trade for him.

If your imaginary scenario comes to pass, then I'm sure you'll take solace knowing that the imaginary Habs fan who said the imaginary things feels bad.

Or you know go to a psychiatrist.

Dvorak sucks and is a 5th line center

Winnipeg wouldn’t want that trash.

Oh you never know, they desperately want to make the playoffs next year and want ""NHL players"" back .

I'd be entirely meh about it but I could see Dvorak, Florida's 1st, centre prospect (Beck or Kidney?) maybe another roster player.

Not like the cap is going to be an issue with likely 12-18+ million gone between Scheifele, PLD and Hellebuyck.

Montreal will need to offer quality young players like Joshua Roy, Filip Mesar, Jordan Harris, and Florida's 1st-round pick. Not necessarily all these assets, but at least three pieces. I think Owen Beck is an untouchable.

Trading a top 6 C for a 3rd/4th line C, very late 1st + is a huge fail and should immediately result in Chevy’s firing.
Dvorak is a waste of assets, cap money, and roster space

Montreal should not trade significant assets for him, and whenever he is a free agent their offer should top out around $4-5m. If he wants to be there that bad then fine, but if he wants anything close to market value they should stay away.
PLD should give the Habs a significant discount. IF its your dream to be a Hab, then prove it! ;)

The Habs available/expendable asset base is the definition of meh right now.

I don't think he will be dealt to MTL this summer.

We have 2 extra 1st round picks that we can trade, Florida's this year and a future from Calgary, those are always valuable. The prospects with value I could see them trading are Harris, Mailloux, Roy, Farrell, Kidney, Beck, Mesar, Engstrom.

We just have to beat the next best offer, which is probably going to be pretty easy if PLD won't sign an extension

It’s really unfortunate for Winnipeg’s fans but if you think any team (not just the habs) is going to hand you a similar level/age player for Dubois you are in for a big disappointment.

History says that you’ll get a quantity package and you gotta hope you hit on one of the prospect or pick to make up for the loss of Dubois long term.

What do you expect him to do when he's got a player forcing his way to a specific team (or exceptionally limited list of teams) and is holding out on his contract? Can't even treat him like a rental at this point unless he's the one dictating who he'll be a rental for. Other GMs aren't going to pay a premium for that.

This is almost exactly the Trouba scenario. As my dad used to say, “there’s an ass for every seat”.

Something around Hell No to that
Zero interest in Dvorak in any way shape or form.
If hes in your offer… don’t bother offering

I love these threads because they're usually filled with comments like 'PIONK for Trouba are you kidding me?? Never in a million years bud'

edit:
here's an actual example

I can cherry pick stats too. Like Hellebuyck's 3.44gaa and .886% being one of the biggest contributors to their demise.

Pionk had 7 points because he forgot where his own end of the ice was.

They had one top 6 forward with a plus rating in the series. That was Wheeler. Doesn't change the fact that in a disappointing result, his 4 points in 5 games, shooting %, face-off winning % put him near the top of team production. He was one of the few Jets forwards to try and make life difficult for Knights defenders too.

You kind of just proved my point. It's a whole lot of meh you mention there. Meh does not mean bad, just...meh.

Take out Hutson and the Habs prospect pool is middle of the pack at best, maybe even closer to 20th-25th.

Also the future 1st from CGY is very likely to be a mid-late FLA 1st in 2025 the way the conditions are set-up.
