Pure speculation, but lets say rfa PLD tells Chevy he is not willing to sign long term in Winnipeg. Could the jets offer him to Montreal for Suzuki who is locked up long term for 7,8.

Not the same type of players but both have future nr 1C pedigree IMHO.

If PLD would agree to a sign and trade with Montreal, is this a fair hockey trade or would either side have to add anything?

First us Dubois a center or a winger? I have read other threads where people call him a winger. Some hockey sites have him listed as a center but more seem to list him as a left winger.

Habs fan here, why would MTL want a player who wants to leave his team two years in a row who may ask for a short term contract while they are rebuilding ? And I believe Suzuki is overpaid given his current output.

He isn't overpaid at the moment. We can discuss that at the end of next season once the first year of his new contract is done.

Right now he is making $865K about so not overpaid. Especially since he is on a team that has really fallen into an offensive blackhole this year.

He centers the 2nd line with Conner and Perfetti

Suzuki is a full year younger and already better and locked long term. No interest in this trade

Dubois is one of the very few Jets that visibly gives a shit this year. The rest of our “veteran leadership” is lazy and uninterested, so it’s no surprise that we want to purge them and build around Dubois/Connor/Ehlers. His game is very heavy, he’s arguably as good as Scheifele already, and he plays better defence. With his father coaching for the Moose, TNSE is making sure he isn’t going anywhere.

Figured Habs ownership and fans would be frothing to get hold of a french speaking nr 1c and Jets can't let him walk IF he won't sign longterm.

I doubt the Jets would consider moving Dubois for Suzuki. The downgrade from Dubois to Suzuki combined with Suzuki's contract wouldn't make it worthwhile for Winnipeg.

If the Jets had to move Dubois it would likely be for a large blue chip prospect and pick package, not for a single, more expensive, outright downgrade.

Montreal Canadiens reject this trade.

Other than Dubois off year with the trade, Suzuki has not been better lol

Yes he has. Dubois literally had one decent year when he got carried by Panarin. Even this year when he’s playing with a PPG+ winger and PP1 with players who are usually PPG or higher he can barely do any better than Suzuki who’s been playing mostly with Lehkonen, Armia and third liners.

Even in terms of responsibilities, Suzuki is ahead of PLD playing PK1 and taking big defensive draws when needed.

Suzuki is younger and better,we can get PLD for free if he wants to sign in Montreal

Habs fan here, I don't think Suzuki is better than Dubois right now. In their 3 first NHL seasons, Dubois has always outscored Suzuki. The only outlier is last year where Dubois had a lousy season witth the context we all know. Let us see for how much he ends up signing.

That's true but elite players manage to score on bad teams, he does not. He does not seem to have the ability to drive a team, he is a great 2C in the making in my opinion. I just hope this does not end up one more Bergevin panic overpay signing. I think Suzuki vs Dubois depends a lot on what contract Dubois will end up signing. Although as you mentioned if he ends up a winger he will of course lose value.
