Yeah. I feel the same. I love JD. He was done dirty here. I have no idea what went down but I refuse to believe JD did anything that warranted being unceremoniously dumped with 3 games remaining in the season. JG too, really. But especially JD. The more I think about it, the more upset i feel.
This is nothing but a spoiled brat acting out impulsively and firing those involved in the scathing letter.

Who else would defend Panarin so strenuously, in protecting him from harm, with a letter to the NHL? Knowing full well it violated policy and would incur fines or some form of punishment? Who? This is clearly the work of someone with balls like JD and Gorton. Not some petty spoiled brat owner who bans fans for wearing T shirts that disparage him.

JD and Gorton have implemented the greatest rebuild of any team in recent memory. Just look at how many future superstars we have in the pipeline. Not to mention signing Panarin long term. What they have accomplished is nothing short of amazing. And to throw away those who got you here, with a reckless impulse to retaliate, seems like just the thing Dolan is capable of.

As mentioned, he just banned a fan at a Knicks game two months ago for wearing a T shirt saying "Ban Dolan". This owner is a incorrigible brat known for his ill temper.

I will bust out laughing if Drury tells Quinn he doesn't need to come back from Boston on Saturday. Couldn't be scripted better.
"Dave, you can stay."
"Nah why would I want to, I don't need to.."
"Dave, no, you can stay, Uber is outside."

Calls Brett: "Howds, help!"

Stealing the astute observation from Ranger Spice, you either die as a villain as a GM in this league or you step down right after a Cup Final run and pass the baton to your AGM then lurk in the owner's circle for years and come back as Colonel Sanders with a vengeance.

That's not Glen Sather. That's Glen's non-villainous twin brother. His name is Jessie. Kind of the reverse of Michael Knight and Garth.

@Tob

Personally, the turning point of this season was your apartment fire meme. Memorable and foreshadowing.

Nobody asked Sather about what happened here. Jeff Gorton was his guy. Sather promoted Gorton to AGM in 2011. Gorton was groomed as his replacement. Gorton became GM in 2015. JD is Sather's guy too. They are very close friends. I am sure Sather had a role in JD getting the job in New York. Dolan fired both of them two years after Sather stepped away from the organization. What happened here? The letter came out three years ago. Dolan fired both of Sather's guys.

What exactly has Drury done that makes him such a great choice for this .....? I'm just trying to get my head around his selection and why he would be that much better then Gorton .
Exactly. Drury is an unknown and Gorton has a spectacular track record. Plus with the way Drury has been promoted it stinks of him being nothing but a puppet,.. at the beckon call of a spoiled and incompetent owner. Look what Dolan has done to the Knicks.

This whole,.. Chris Drury ascends to New York Rangers GM job, where he was perhaps always meant to arrive, is nothing but a whitewash of the absolute disastrous events that just transpired. There has never been a firing of a GM and President so absurdly and rashly made, in the history of the NHL. Of all the controversies Dolan has had, managing his sports teams, this by far takes the cake. How in the hell do you fire two great hockey minds, that have recently had the Midas touch,... over a stupid letter? Without even a forethought? The guy is insane.

Midas touch? At what, lottery balls?

I'm not saying they were bad but jesus, you'd think Gorts was the God-Emperor of Mankind around here.

The silver lining is that Drury seemed to be pretty highly coveted around the league and chose to stay here. Whether that was due to his ties to the NYR organization or because he was told that this was going to be his show sooner rather than later, who knows.

What Drury can do 1) when it's solely him calling (most of) the shots, and 2) in relation to Dolan is still to be seen, but I'm on the low-end of optimistic. I've never seen anything less than glowing about Drury and how well-respected he is in hockey circles so that could bode well as far as him bringing in some other well-respected guys. We shall see.

Biased or not. JD's record and Gorts record speaks for themselves. Whereas one look at Dolan's history makes you wanna vomit.

Gorton did a lot of good. Anybody arguing against that is being silly. The Zibby trade. Turning like a month of Rick Nash into Ryan Lindgren. Turning Ryan Spooner into Ryan Strome. Trading up for Miller. Drafting Nils. The Brady Skjei trade. Lots to like. At the same time our most valuable pieces are lottery wins, a Norris caliber defenseman who pretty much only wanted to play here and a superstar winger who pretty much turned down more money on better teams to play here. The Trouba and Kreider contracts... oof. Howden and Hajek for McDonagh? Lias Andersson. Not adding any grit. Hiring Quinn

Dolan took over operations shortly after the '94 Stanley Cup. And has been deservedly criticized for sticking his nose where it doesn't belong, along with many other controversies. And it looks like he is back to his old ways. You take one look at his bio and that slightly optimistic view, will turn sour very fast after what just transpired. But you are right, we shall see.

The more I think of this the more I feel this is a Sather/Dolan move that is driven by their ages and impatience, wanting to see this team compete NOW as opposed to years.

And that is f***ing stupid and shortsighted, like most of how Sather operated during his tenure here as GM.

Agreed. While Gorton can be criticized for a lot of things he was safe. We were on the right path. Sure Drury might be better but the odds are he is worse imo especially if he is just a puppet.

I like most fans am extremely worried to go back to the “old” Rangers. They were so into overpaying over the hill superstar that other fanbases would spell it “rag$”. Not to mention the horrible decision making and lack of patience. Rebuilding was unheard of and every year they’d have a decent season followed by a 2nd round exit. Come draft they either would trade picks or have mid to late round picks. This went on for decades. Basically Ground Hog’s day season after season. I never want to go through that again. So I fully understand the reason for people freaking out over this.

I don't think so.

Just reading the tea leaves, people (Not just Dolan, but Sather as well - this became pretty clear after the conference call today) were disgusted with their performances against the Islanders and the old guard's lack of "alarm" towards those games and the overall "big picture" attitude. The Washington situation likely only expedited the process. Not saying that this is right or wrong, but I don't think this is a matter of impatience as is it not being willing to possibly go down the road of spinning your wheels forever.

Whats odd to me is that these are things that would have likely been targeted as areas to hit this summer, JD and JG are not dummies and the guy most responsible for their performances against the NYI is still here (perhaps just for the sake of continuity. It doesn't sound like he's going to hang around for much longer either.)

I don't think its unreasonable to ask or hope that the team makes some use of their abundance of assets in order to add to or fix areas on this roster that clearly need it. There are smart ways to do this and their are really dumb ways to do this, lets hope for the former.

No surprise that the fanbase is the chump in all of this, yet again.

We suffered through years of ineptness with Sather who said he could "win a Cup every year with their payroll". He finally steps aside and we get some smart leaders in here deciding to tear it all down after a very competitive stretch with a historically elite goalie.

The fans agree the best course of action is to rebuild and our patience is finally rewarded with multiple top draft picks panning out and a #1 prospect future in the NHL.

And juuuuust when things were starting towards something here comes Glen again to f*** it all up because he scared he wont see another Cup by the time the team grows up to be that good naturally.
