Player Discussion Drew Helleson

Going forward he’s not above lunuea in our long term plans. We have the kid Moore whos rh also to sign.

Verbeek will probably re-sign Trouba, but not Gudas. Luneau and Helleson will probably play much of next year and the team will move Gudas at some point.

The real decision is on the other side with LaCombe, Zellweger, Mintyukov, and Solberg.

We have been super lucky with injuries. Depth I a great asset and we shouldn’t be in rush to deplete.

What was dumb was sitting our zelwegger and minty only. I definitely would have rested the other vets more.

Hockey is a brutal / physical game. I would have rotated a defenseman every game.

People were saying it was a terrible return before the season too

We also got Luneau and Clang for Rakell.

Say what you want about Verbeek but some of his trades look really good at this point
Outside of coaching hire, Verbeek has overall been pretty good. Killorn is probably the only really bad signing, but that's more due to usage and pay (pay isn't as much of an issue for the Ducks). He's been aggressive in free agency, most of his trades have worked out (and the Gauthier one could be franchise alrering)... if he fixes the coaching issue, Ducks can be a playoff team as early as next year.

As the league adds more teams, it's going to get harder to get out of a rebuild. There's more options for free agents, more spots between draft picks, and fewer coaching options out there. Without being a "traditional market" that draws free agents or lottery luck to get that franchise 1st overall pick, it's going to take longer or smarter moves. Hopefully he learned and will get us a good coach this summer.

I think he still has #4 potential. Worst case think he is a high end bottom pairing D.

After LaCombe, Helleson has been the biggest surprise on the Ducks this season.

Every pairing needs a stay at home dman to avoid last night's debacle when both Zellweger and Trouba decided to pinch at the wrong time and led to counterattacks by WSH. If Zelly is going to continue to play as a 4th forward, we should try pairing him with Helleson. Trouba likes to join the rush a little too much to play effectively with Zelly.

Very nice to see how he bounced back. On course to prove once again it's risky to jump to conclusion with 22-23 year old dman or to give up on them. No one was really enthusastic about him last year and dropped in everyone rankings and now he climbed back up pretty high.

The Josh Manson trade is looking pretty good right now.

We got Helleson and Terrance so if only Helleson works out I think that is still a win.
Way better than the Lindholm trade. We still have to wait for Gaucher and Clara from lindholm trade to pan out but its looking like the Manson trade could end up having more value long term and certainly more short term as Helleson is playing now.

Should be noted that the 2024 2nd in the Lindholm trade enabled the team to trade up for Solberg.

What an amazing trade for Manson and they got a second out of it too. He fits what we need very well and rounds out a very promising blueline.
It’s crazy the amount of talent/potential we have on the back end.

Helleson has been a nice surprise, tho I liked that pick up from the start…. But moore is looking like he’s prob nhl ready too

Not gonna lie, after he struggled a bit in the ahl I had zero faith that he would be an NHL regular. We are going to have to make another trade and get another young g forward.

I always thought he was 1 of those guys that would translate to nhl fine, as a depth piece

Based on the player Manson was at the time of the trade (declining defensively) that was amazing value in that trade. I remember people saying Manson's defense was terrible the year he was traded.

He’s been awesome. Our best RHD this year.

Been saying this for a while, but I’d love to see a LaCombe-Helleson pairing. That could be a legit top pairing for next season.

Unfortunately, our coach is too dumb to try something fun
