Confirmed with Link: Scott Laughton (50% Retention), 2025 4th, 2027 6th to the Leafs for Nikita Grebenkin, conditional 2027 1st

It’s called body checking for a reason. Designed to separate the puck carrier from the puck as in winning a puck battle.

Laughton doesn’t do enough of that.
Ok?
I said he finishes his checks, which he does.

I wish this guy would up the physical ante and be more of a shit disturber out there if he’s not going to do anything else. Get more in the opponents face, engage in more extracurriculars. It’s nice that he finishes his checks but his lack of anything else means he needs to do more physically.

Agreed but the Leafs aren’t really that kind of team though. He looks like a guy that isn’t sure what to do out there.

True, but with Domi beside him I don't see why those two can't collude to start shit. Domi and Bertuzzi did last year whenever they were linemates, especially in the latter half of the season and in the playoffs. Just need to be willing to do so.

21 years old new to the country barely able to communicate. We’ll see but he can become at least a 3rd liner by the time he is 23, maybe even next year. I believe I stated he was a good prospect, not premium, so yes he is not an excellent prospect.

Oh and writing him off after 7 games, how did our new 3 liner do after 7 games?
Well you spoon that wheel now around around it goes.

The only reason this guy is in the lineup is that we paid 1st round pick for him

He's been several tiers worse than Holmberg, Lorentz, Kampf, Jarnkork and Robertson

He has not played like an NHL player

I’ve never been a fan of this trade and this is just speculation but Grebs was a very well regarded young KHL player. If he doesn’t get a top 6 role on his terms I could see some flight risk with him. He’s making like >100k on his deal if he’s in the AHL. KHL would surely put significantly more.

I'm not exactly sure your beef is with Laughton. You just want to make Treliving look bad. IMHO he doesn't look bad. I know some of you set a daily reminder to come on HF and post about how bad Laughton is. I think you're wasting your time. The true measure of this trade is Laughton's playoff performance, and then his performance next season. Even if you don't like what you're seeing, he's just a depth forward who makes 1.5 million.

Calgary fans infiltrated the Leafs board during his hiring, and has infected this this wounded fanbase.

You percieve this tiny imperfection as everything. It's nothing. Look at all the good things Treliving has done. You want to fixate on this?

I’ve praised the Carlo trade and have hated this Laughton trade from the start. It’s not the move that was needed. Too much given up for this player. They would have been better to not make the trade at all and keep Dewar

Frankly he oughtta be a healthy scratch and the only reason he’s still in the lineup is because of the price Treliving paid for him. f***’s sake. Dewar could still be here and would be accomplishing the same thing, but at least he’s 5 years younger and could maybe get better.

Speaking of, that guy somehow has 4 goals in 12 games with Pittsburgh. Where the f*** was that here?

Very unnoticeable out there, you have to be really watching out for him to get a read on what he's doing.

And the answer is nothing. He's just existing.
Our third line has been completely neutered and are not capable of being a shutdown line.

Toronto receives
Laughton @ 50% until 2026
4th round pick in 2025
6th round pick in 2027

Philadelphia receives
Nikita Grebenkin
Conditional 1st round pick in 2027

This what it costs. But if you start telling everyone that "Grebenkin is our blue chip prospect", then I suppose in your mind TOR paid too much for Laughton, 4th, & 6th.

Paying any amount for a 13th forward at any cap hit is at best a waste of paperwork.
