I saw ‘McTavish, McQueen, and Minty…’ and thought damn that package could get a really great player. That said, I’m not certain that gets Thomas (when available, I think it would have been close), let alone Thomas and Parayko.

Putting aside Thomas is off the market that's pretty ass for the Blues considering what Parayko was traded for last year and the asking price of Thomas.

The phrasing is strange: “down the road” but it’s in past tense?
Thomas is an excellent player. Paryako is still good. Not too sure this “was (is)” fair.

Seems to me that it was discussed at the TDL but they delayed it to the draft? That's my comprehension of the "down the road" comment. haha.

This is my playbook... I've been thinking about trying to get both Thomas and Parayko all the way back to early in the new year. Sabres almost did it. Now the Ducks?

Blues new GM starts his job on July 1st right? Wonder what moves they might make at the draft. Blues are in a interesting spot.

It's basically what Buffalo was trying. Toss in some 1sts, and it's probably what it would take, imagine 5-6 assets in total.

Can someone help break down the idiom? He says "down the road" but then implies past modal perfect tense...

Glad I'm not the only one whose head was exploding over this.

Down the road just means it was talks that were advanced into more serious discussions as opposed to being in the early stages.

What's the context with Armstrong and the Blues New GM Steen who takes the job on July 1st? I'm assuming Armstrong will still have lots to say with any moves being made right? So no real changes in management strategy there?

Army will still be President, Steen has been involved next to Army for a couple years now. I would expect the direction we take to be pretty much the same. Thomas is still unlikely to be moved or completely off the market, he was always going to take a crazy return. Strickland had a recent tweet about him being off the market, and with Cs like Larkin entering the market, teams probably prioritize other options before offering St. Louis what it would take for Thomas.

What is the overall general consensus from Blues fans according to your opinion? Not only from you, but how you feel your overall fan base thinks about the direction? I ask this question because I got mixed answers in the past

Reset/Retool or rebuild? Or are the Blues just exploring options and seeing what other teams are offering and then they decide?

Definitely isn't a rebuild. Holloway and Broberg extensions kind of highlight what management views of our window to competitiveness. I don't think it would shock any Blues fan if Kyrou, Parayko, Binnington, or Buchnevich are traded. I don't see all of them being moved, and I would expect us to get returns or have other moves that put us in a a playoff bubble spot like we're in now. Basically, re-vamp the middle 6 and see if Mailloux can build off of how he finished.

Shockingly bad return for the Blues considering what they already had on the table for Parayko alone.

While I certainly think Thomas and Parayko are the best players in this deal, I suspect Blues fans would feel underwhelmed and truth be told I don't like it as a Ducks fan. Ducks are in a really good position with their youth and need to let it continue organically. I love me some Parayako but the fall if is inevitable in the next 1-2 years. Forcing something for the sake of it just doesn't seem right. With so many potential big options being on the market now I feel like the Ducks should continue to wait and use their trade chips cautiously. If I'm Verbeek I'm not moving McQueen regardless if it's Robert Thomas.
