Rumor: Dreger: Belief that Mason McTavish is going to be traded

Ducks are looking to upgrade their #2C, I wouldn't be surprised if Verbeek keeps trying to get Robert Thomas. That would be a huge upgrade.

I was shocked when I found out how much McTavish makes, he's not worth his caphit on a loaded ducks roster. McTavish would be a good fit in Calgary if he's willing to go there.
Doesnt sounnd like Thomas is on the market anymore.

I think the ducks are pretty confident McQueen is the 2c of the future.... so granlund as a stop gap isnt the end of the world.

I kinda feel like Anaheim would target a winger at a similar age or RHD w/ McTavish

But id prefer the piece we get back to be under 28 ... like others have said McTavish for Parayko is bad for us long term.

Something around Yakemchuk, Grieg, McTavish and Luneau. Picks on whatever side to even out. can’t say I love it as a Sens fan, but you gotta give to get. Verbeek would love the opportunity to add these two and Ducks fans can’t convince me otherwise.

The problem is Anaheim prob sees this as

McTavish > Grieg
Luneau >= Yakemchuk

Anaheim has been patient with Luneau, but hes a guy theyve been very high on... not so sure they will be willing to move him at least in this type of trade.

I don’t mind the package from idea from the sens, but is prob want to go a different route on the back side…. Even with yakemchuk we’re still pretty weak on right side

Before we drafted sennecke, word was that we we torn between sennecke and yakemchuk. Even still, Luneau wouldnt be going the other way.

Is your club currently a lottery team or a playoff team that is about to enter a legitimate window of Cup contention? Because the Ducks are the latter. They're done hoarding futures.
Habs are in a relatively similar state as ducks...

I think you misread or misunderstood. It's not a matter of hoarding pics. Trading McT at a discount to fill a need that can adequately be filled by a vet UFA, seems foolish.

McT assets + Trouba >> Parayko.

Gotcha. I see what you're saying now but it still doesn't change my stance at this point. You can't just go into a bidding war for a UFA with the mindset of we'll pay whatever it takes. Trouba would be great to have back at the right price so McT could be used in a package for another RD or 2C, but not if it's for a deal that kills us in the back half.

Trading a 1st for a 36 year old rental was a foolish move too but that didn't stop Verbeek.

The sad thing is that Verbeek knew all this six months ago. It's no different than Rob Blake letting Matt Roy AND Gavrikov walk for free. Terrible asset management. It forced the Kings into making some terrible UFA signings and it looks like it will force Verbeek into making some terrible trades.

And yes, trading a 1st for a 36 year old rental was a foolish move.

Granlund right now, is a fine 2c when healthy. I’m hoping he can stay healthy next season.

Is 7m really that much anymore? It certainly won't be much towards the end of the contract. I don't think some folks have fully grasped how crazy salaries are gonna get.

I’m the biggest Yakemchuk hater out there and even I find this cringe. They’re not even in the same stratosphere

To Toronto
Mason McTavish
Alex Killorn (cap reasons)
Pavel Mintyukov (RFA)
2nd(2027)

To Anaheim
Matthew Knies
Morgan Rielly
Ryan Tverberg (RFA)

Knies - Carlson - Sennecke

Rielly - Zellweger

-
Mckenna - Matthews - FA
Cowan - McTavish - Nylander
Killorn - Tavares - Robertson

McCabe - Raddysh
OEL - Tanev
Mintyukov - Carlo

Not really a big fan of rielly… much rather roll with Mintyukov, killorn is the 1 vet I’m prob against moving on from… he understands his job and does it.
It also creates a potential situation of Rielly and Hinds blocking Solberg from the 6 D playing every night in 2028 (when Solberg waiver exemption ends). The way it is now, it would be Mintyukov and Hinds blocking him.

If Solberg is looking good, and the GM decides they don't want to trade Hinds, Mintyukov would be much easier to move to the right side or trade than Morgan Rielly would be (in 2028).
