Canucks fan here,
I don't think you guys even need to give up the 25th for Debrusk if you want a pure PP elite guy.
A couple of seconds i think most ppl will be happy with out here in van.
I think he would be a nice fit for the sens

I don't think they can be too future-oriented, because the group they have now is still young and good. But they no longer have to feel like tehy're on the clock to compete this year or next. The window can shift slightly, with everything built around Stutzle and Sanderson now. And a 9OA pick can definitely factor into that window.
I doubt this is true. Players aren't sticking around for another missed year. batherson is not signing here without a plan to contend.

Well yeh, YOU guys would be happy...
Debrusk has his faults for sure, but he played on a god awful canucks forward group and still managed to dominate on the PP.
Sens have a much better system and players, he should score more 5 on 5 goals, and still keep his PP numbers.
Also, he was great for boston in the playoffs.

Not getting my hopes up for Robertson.

What about Lafreniere + 26th overall for 9th overall.

Ottawa then picks the Rucks back to back.

I’ve been banging the Lafreniere drum for a while he would be a great target for us.

I think Staios will be looking at Knies as well if ever he’s available but Laf would likely be a bit cheaper to acquire.

Of course not, it's ludicrous that there are people who actually believe that Ottawa is a place he'd want to be. This is the new reality - players like Jason Robertson are going to do everything in their power to avoid ending up in places like this.

This is why I think the Senators should keep the draft capital and make the picks. Ottawa needs to get back to its identity of the early 2000's as a draft and develop team. There's just no other pathway available to us to acquire the sort of talent required to be competitive in the NHL these days.

This is an organization that lost its way some time ago. They need to be asset-maxxing, they need to be replenishing the pipeline by moving off players early [even when fans don't agree], they need to be investing in scouting/skills development, and they need to be prudent about which players to keep around long-term.
That may be the case, but lets be real for a second here - Chris Johnston knows absoutely nothing guy goes from SN and TSN to some welfare podcast ..

While it won’t address the fwd situation, Brandt Clarke offer sheet anyone? Tehy are probably going to match anything but staios gonna have to be creative this offseason

I suppose my stance on this is colored by the fact that I have a much dimmer view of this core group than most. I don't see a future where they are likely to have success.

I see people clamoring for Drake Batherson to be signed to some monster 7 year/66M dollar contract on July 1st and I think 'why?'. Why are we buying up this player's post-prime seasons at a huge mark-up just to play on a club that will likely have to scratch tooth and nail to be on the bubble?

It's just so easy to envision a scenario where they punt off 9OA++ for McTavish and 25th OA for Ristolainen and they've nuked a whole load of capital and not really moved the needle at all.

I don't know that the Sens have a window, really. Most of the team is prime age and they've even won a playoff series. I don't know where we go with this, but I guess I'd be looking a lot further down the road than Staios seems to be.

its hard to have any faith in this management staff. Lots of holes on the roster and 2 years in it hasn't been fixed so not surprised you feel that way

9OA++ for McTavish would be an immediately fireable offence. I wouldn’t part with 9OA on its own.

There is absolutely no way we trade the 9th OA for McTavish unless Anaheim adds something else that’s valuable because he’s just not worth that.

Would y'all do a Zetterlund for DeBrusk swap? The motivation for the nucks being you lot save money that the owners might not want to spend on.

Would be nice to add some depth at forward in free agency, especially LW. Jaden Schwartz would be a target for me, AJ Greer as well.

Hopefully one impact forward via trade. Someone to play with Tim.

Having good cohesive scoring depth is what will bring this group to the next level. With capspace and some assets, they should be able to build out some great scoring depth.

They're three years in going on four next season, not two. They've had plenty of time, they're just not serious about putting together a real contender, it's not that hard to see anymore.

I think it's so much more difficult than a lot of you guys make it seem.

The pool of players available to a market like Ottawa is vanishingly small and shrinking. Start by eliminating pretty much every single player that has some form of trade protection, unless you somehow back into a situation where they leave us off their list strategically like Ullmark. Then eliminate the vast majority of UFA's who have no interest in coming to Ottawa. Eliminate really good players that other teams simply have no incentive to move.

What's left? Not much.

But I get the frustration. When I see a team that makes its first playoff appearance in nearly a decade and 'builds' on it by signing the mouldering corpse of Lars Eller and then calling it a summer, I laugh too. What else can you do? It's ridiculous. But it is what it is.

I'm tired of the constant excuses man. I honestly have no mood or energy left to even bother with this constant BS line of arguments to waive away their mediocrity anymore. It's not valid in the slightest at this point.

They've had plenty time, they just don't have the same priorities fans do, just like Melnyk didn't. That's all it really is.
