Also, its hard to trust the London Knights with Schremp, Syvret and Gagner. Always a stacked team. Hard to trust their players sometimes

Not really. Schremp needed go improve his skating but refused and said there was nothing wrong with his skating. Syvret wasn't that good at 17. Gagner in hindsight could have used another year in the OHL but he never fixed his skating or DZ play either. He still had some very good seasons though. We rushed him and he never improved.

Doesn't have anything to do with the Knights.

We get all the hanger-ons.

Pat Kane was the driver of the Sam Gagner bus.
Corey Perry was the driver of Rob Schremp/Dan Syvret.

2x Art Ross winners made the Oilers prospects look good. Not the other way around.

Please change my vote from Tkachuk to Dubois. I like the heart and net front presence of Matthew Tkachuk but PLD would probably be a better fit with McDavid.

PLD and Drasaitl together :yo:

Thatd be a tremendous possession line. But PLD can also snipe too

I get a David Perron vibe from Tkachuk. Skilled agitator who needs the puck on his stick, but not a 200 foot player.

Tkachuk has got skills for sure, but playing with a Draft+1 Marner who is tearing up the OHL will make just about anyone look good.

IMO, why draft Tkachuk over Dubois/Chychrun/Sergachev when you could probably draft Benson/Max Jones with the 2nd round pick. People forget that this year is stacked. Players will fall.

This is the beauty of having a center like McDavid. He can make a Jones a legit threat even though Tkachuk is the better player. Tkachuk would be a nice add that would bring a lot of intangibles we could use but at this point we probably have bigger holes.

Jones/ Benson are not sure things. If you get 2 forwards with top 2 picks you could move out 2 forwards this year

Remember our forward prospects are absymal. And a guy like Jones is far off. Remember Rattie was supposed to be a steal in 2nd round and STILL in AHL

To be fair, Perry was nowhere to be found when Schremp went on to have a 19 yr old season (145 points, plus another 47 in the playoffs) better than Perry's 19 yr old season in the OHL. It's not like Schremp shriveled away into nothing once Perry graduated.

Schremp's problem was never lack of talent, it was lack of skating, strength, conditioning and maturity, all attributes that were in his power to improve and as far as I could tell he didn't improve on a single one of them. He had talent, and absolutely nothing else.

If you want to talk about actual point leeches on London at that time, look no further than Dylan Hunter and Danny Syvret. THEY were the true hangers-on.

Heck, Hunter had back-to-back 100+ point seasons in the OHL then went on to play exactly zero NHL games and was an OHL assistant coach last I checked. Syvret played less than 60 and is an AHL lifer.

Since you're using Ty Rattie. Let's have a look at the 2nd rounders of that year's draft. Gibson, Jaskin, Rask, Kucherov, Saad, Jenner, Nieto are distributors for their teams. Not to mention some others are still developing. 2016 draft is even more stacked.

All took a while. You dont change your top 5 pick because some player MIGHT be available in 2nd round and they MIGHT turn out

Some players are worth the wait. To me, Dubois has a much higher upside and is more likely of reaching that potential. All the tools, size and smarts. Lots to like.

I think Tkachuk is destined to be a Canuck... He plays Canucks hockey already while we are full of "nice" players.

Yeah, this thought just occured to me as well. Drai and Dubois together would be magical. Hall would probably fit pretty well on that line too. That could be one hell of a top line and you still have McDavid anchoring another line. Yowza!

Both PLD and LD are playmakers, PLD can finish (42 goals and a great shot). And with Hall learning he can give puck up and still succeed, thats receipt for a great line. PLD has IQ to play with Drasaitl and speed to play with Hall

If you land Eriksson in FA you could roll Eriksson-McDavid-Maroon as other line. Gives McDavid a vet 2 way winger to help him out. Slide RNH for Eriksson if we cant get him

.

Most of us put very little stock in draft +2 years.

I like Dubois but not enough yet to say "he's definitely my guy"

I get scared sometimes of taking QMJHL prospects high and I don't think Dubois is as impressive as Crosby, MacKinnon or even Drouin was.

He's also got great linemates in Svechnikov and Lazarev...although so does Tkachuk.

Too early for me to pick who I'd like yet.

London has always been an offense first but this year they have been tough defensively as well. Tkachuk is a pretty decent two way player. On his line he is typically not the guy with the puck on his stick. That is Marner. He drives the net, works the corners, creates space. Given the choice between Dubois and Tkachuk I would have taken Dubois until very recently. BUt Watching Tkachuk against the Rangers and generally in the playoffs has made this a much tougher choice. He has been flat out terrific. For me, I'd be happy with either guy, but I expect they will deal the pick.

I like Dubois over Tkachuk.

Dubois drives his line, where as Tkachuk is just Marner's Side-kick.

Tkachuk is like Gagner, Dubois is like Voracek. Not in terms of playing style, but in terms of percentage of production.

I also am biased, like the bigger Canadian Kid over the smaller American.

Well, if he was, wouldn't we be going crazy right now? I don't think a projected 4th overall is expected to be on their level.
