legitimately, what is she trying to convey with these tweets? it's so strange.

i like the idea of being in on chase priskie, though. i drafted him in my keeper league after his freshman year. he's a free-wheeling style defenseman in the shayne gostisbehere/torey krug mold. since he's already 23, he could be nhl ready. i like the idea of adding a pure offensive/puck mover back there for the powerplay. he would be a huge pickup.

But why? I mean, i'd love to add more skills but we already have bean and sellgren.

priskie is just a different kind of player than those two. i think bean has strong offensive potential and might be the better overall defender, but priskie has elements to his game that would benefit this team as currently constructed. we don't really have a guy that i would consider to be a 4th forward like priskie can be. plus, he's more mature in that game than bean is currently.

Add Priskie, groom him to take Hamilton’s role. You have to imagine that next summer they’ll meet with Hamilton’s agent and that meeting won’t go well. He’ll get shown the door and they’ll have Priskie ready to fill that void...til the following summer when Priskie’s ELC is up...another bad meeting, but by then Honka will be ready, right?

Perhaps a potential trait of Dundon-financed teams...offload expensive vets about to get big raises who aren’t can’t-be-replaced types, back-fill with low-20s talent. It’s less expensive, and given that some statistics show drop-off in performance at age ... 26, was it? ... it not a completely insane idea.

Not only is it not insane, it’s completely logical.

It seems mostly obvious, but watching good players like Skinner, Faulk, potentially Hamilton and McGinn be cast aside is going to take some getting some getting used from a fan perspective. Lots of potential turnover each year.

That is the exact revolving door you want for years in and out. It keeps salary cap down and allows patience in trades to get decent value besides skinner. I'lll give them a pass bc he wasnt a player they wanted in their system.

I was at work all day and haven’t been able to keep up. Someone tell me how to feel!

We killed the draft, and set up for the future, but basically did nothing to improve the current team and depending on who you ask, talks with our free agents (restricted or otherwise) aren't going well.

So we took a rebuilding approach to the draft after we made the ECF. Make of that what you will.

Your pessimism at literally one of the best rated draft performances in modern history is boring, annoying, and utterly predictable.

Your opinion is noted. I said we killed the draft. There's no denying we had a successful one. And if it had happened in any of the previous 5-8 years, I'd have been happy.

But as I said, doing it this year just seems out of place. I don't think I was the only one expecting us to deal some of our extra picks and/or current players for help to build off last year's success. Instead, we kept all of them and even added more.

And that's great. More chances to find a diamond in the rough is always a good thing. It's just not what I was expecting.

I'm not sure you can maintain the pace needed to constantly cycle through good players. This organization is a perfect example of that. The scouting staff has done a terrific job this decade outside of the 1st round, but it was the complete opposite the decade prior. That lack of success on the 2nd day from 2001-2008 in particular was a driving factor in the near decade long playoff drought. Montreal was competitive for longer than it should have been on the strength of its drafting, but that eventually dried up. It's a big reason why they're the hot and cold team year-to-year they are now.
