I saw some people really upset with getting to OT last night. I get that but it's not like going from 4th to 10th. They've put themselves in a very good position. They still have to win the lottery.

The chances of them getting bumped 1 spot are decent down to 6th, but not three spots, that's just silly.

I'll be thrilled with any of Byram/Dach/Cozens/Turcotte.

I would too but we won’t get Byram or Cozens or Maybe even Turcotte at 6.

Hughes
Kakko
Byram
Dach
Cozens
Podz
Turcotte
Zegras

I feel like we're guaranteed, 1 of them at this point. I'm hoping to land our 2C in this draft. I'd be OK with Byram but I'm weary of Podz. Top C > Top LHD > Top RW

Its a bit tricky at 3,4,5..consensus picks are byram, cozens, podz or dach. I like Zegras but he may be a reach at 3 to 5 so maybe I want to pick 6 or 9 to get my target guy.

If we end up with the 5th pick, do we trade back to say 8 if that team wanted to move up and would offer their 2nd rounder to do so? Or do we need to stay where we are and draft BPA at that spot.

I feel like Podkolzin could fall to 5.

I think they stay put and take their guy, the Rangers generally don’t trade down, and they have a lot of picks already anyway

Rangers luck:
  • Lose tonight Vs the Pens.
  • Buffalo wins Vs Detroit to leapfrog the Rangers.
  • Buffalo wins the lottery, Edmonton gets the #2 pick and Anaheim gets the #3 pick, dropping the Rangers down to #8.

Man, Buch screwed us yesterday, huh?

I don't think I'd go that far.

It would obviously of been a lot better to have not gotten that point, but we still would have needed a regulation loss + Detroit-Buffalo overtime today to get 4th. Whereas, with a regulation loss now we're guaranteed 5th.

We basically lost that slight outside shot at 4th, and are in a position to slip some more if we somehow get a point or two out of Pittsburgh. I'd take some pretty heavily weighted odds that we are going to be seeded 5th at the lottery, right now.

Buch didn't screw anything up. It sucks we don't have an opportunity at No. 4, but that win was needed. Did you all see how excited everyone got when they came back? The team needs it from this kind of season. Boosts morale!!

I'm expecting a regulation loss tonight, with one of Buf/Det winning and we wouldn't have to worry about Edmonton. No. 5 finish on the year!!

Unless the Rangers finish with 1 or 2. They might get the guy they want from 3-7. So I don't foresee a huge affect. I came to terms with the loser points back in December. Not surprised about the position that they are in.

I’d take the RW and AINEC.

It’s 2019. We have basically never in franchise history drafted a homegrown top offensive player. Never.

Byram predicts to become about as good as Ryan McDonagh, but there are risks involved with him as everyone else and nothing is a given. Some make it out like he is a sure fire top guy, that is just not fair. Sure that could be valuable, but when we get a shot at getting a shot at drafting that top offensive guy — for the first time ever in franchise history — you can’t waste it on a smaller little bit more offensively skilled McD, at best.

Or can, of course you can. But it just not smart.

He’s not going to be much smaller for long.

He’s an obvious #3 in this draft and it isn’t really that close. He’s been fantastic in the WHL playoffs.

Yeah that certainly caught my attention too. One-punch Tony’s looked really hyped about the goal, like it was G7...

These guys will show up to play next season. I don’t care about what the pundits say about how we will be the worst ever, they will be hard to beat. I’d take that over the over paid lazy vets any day.

I will say that in a draft where @Edge has a hard time choosing between his guys ranked 3-7, I sure as hell don’t want to pick 8th. I was convinced that the Rangers were winning the lottery last year. Not getting my hopes up this year, but I really hope this team finally drafts and develops a superstar. Lots going on in my life right now and it’d be easier to find time for the Rangers if that included watching McDavid, etc.

I think they move up this year to #2.

Funny thing is? People will still complain.

Unless you get Hughes, your 2C will be at least 3 years away. And that's presuming he will immediately step in and be able to play on the second line of an NHL team.

What do you consider to be a top offensive player? Kreider is a legit top liner. There was also someone named Jean Ratelle. Tony Amonte was traded, but he was just that.

If Byram hits on his potential, you are looking at burns, not McDonagh.
Some make it out like he is a sure fire top guy, that is just not fair.
What is more unfair, stating that he projects to be an elite #1 defenseman or denigrating him down a level?

Have you seen what his offensive production is this year?

Firs time of drafting a top offensive guy in franchise history? Let's play Jeopardy. The answer, Alex is "Who is Rod Gilbert"? "Who is Jean Ratelle"? "Who is Brian Leetch?" Do these names not count? Just off the top of my head.

He also projects to be a first PP unit QB. Only in his dreams was McD ever that.

Now let's talk about him being "smaller". This is a 17 year old boy who is already 6 feet, 185 pounds. That is pretty good size for that age. Now let's go with this question: How many other 17 year old boys have stayed at their current size? If you said zero, you win! Want to guess at what his size will be at 22, with proper nutrition and 5 more years of training?

You need not like him, but to claim that he is some sort of a runt is simply disingenuous.
Or can, of course you can. But it just not smart.
Drafting the best Rangers defensive prospect since 1986 is not smart?

There is a better likelihood that Byram becomes a top pairing defenseman than, Hughes aside, any of the centers in the draft become top line centers. That's how good the kid is. This is not fanboy stuff. Dahlin aside, Byram is the best defensive prospect in two entire drafts. How many times has one been able to claim that title?

@True Blue I'm not really sure how you see Burns in Byram's game because I honestly don't see that at all. He strikes me much more stylistically like a Giordano or Niedermayer. If I had to peg his ceiling, it'd be closer to Giordano, including the longevity.
