There really is no reason for the bottom 11-15 teams to have a shot at the #1 pick.

I can't help but feel like there should be a second drawing to determine who picks between 11-15.

I mean when you have teams moving up 10 slots, from 12 to 2, or find yourself staring at the possibility of a team like Montreal, with 96 points, landing a Hughes or Kakko, something is clearly amiss.

1-4
5-8
9-12
13-15

Divide the teams in 4 "divisions" and play for the highest pick in that division

I really wonder what the logic was when this was written into the CBA.

Please hockey gods, we really need this. We have suffered enough and you teased us with the Finals in 2014, throw us a bone now please

We’ve been negative all year for the most part let’s be positive today. Let’s win this **** tonight. Top 2 pick tonight let’s go!
Ever since the Rangers had a top 4 chance at getting Crosby and wound up 16th overall, I have my doubts about how kind the lottery would be to the Rangers.

I can't decide if I'd be thrilled or disappointed if we won the lottery for pick #3.

I guess thrilled overall, but since they reveal the picks from bottom to top, disappointed once we got there.

Only if you witnessed the Morrow overtime goal, Druce going crazy & Francis scoring from 150 feet out, have you suffered enough.

Seriously, 1 Cup in 80- years. The suffering has been going on for a long, long time. No belief that the Rangers will actually move up tonight.

Ha, look at all you fools and your false hope. Imagine thinking something like Jack Hughes or Kakko in a Rangers sweater were a real possibility, despite the enormous monetary value it would bring to the league. Look how dumb you all are for thinking the league would actually understand how it could instantly market a NYC-area rivalry with all three teams having a young star to build around.

Yeah, you're totally right. It'll feel amazing two weeks from now, but once they don't announce us at #6 and we know we moved, there will be a brief moment of letdown.

The next time the league shows any favoritism to the Rangers will be the first time.

Just last draft Carolina was 11th from the bottom and they won Svechnikov 2nd overall.

random thoughts this am.

when i look at the forwards in this draft, i want a kid who has a shooters mentality and the ability to score goals in many different ways.

we badly need a sniper/shooter in the pipeline.

guys like cozens, boldy, kaliyev, cole caulfield and bobby brink are the names to watch.

of that group, cannot get past the total package that dylan cozens brings. big size, high end skating, controlled power, physical and natural finish. all in one.

guys like dach, turcotte and zegras are more cerebral creators than finishers. i pass on those names.

lastly, here's a value name to keep an eye out for in round 2 when we are looking at dmen.

lassi thomson. righty dman, great foot work/skater and cannon of a shot this kid can really send it.

offensive dman who can play the pp1.

While I hate the lottery, I have to admit its fascinating to watch. Every pick matters because if someone is slotted and then they get skipped that means they move up...basically every fan needs to be cheering for normal odds until their card.

Last year they announced Carolina and the announcers were like "what this means is Carolina has moved up...in contention for #1st overall" The rep for them looked like he was about to piss himself. It makes for good television.

You cannot possibly be serious and say that you wold pass on a Dach, Turcotte or Zegras to take Kaliyef or Caufield or Bring.

14 years later the entire '05 lockout and lottery draft still seriously chaps my ass.
You and me both. How they friggin' dropped all the way to 16 was mind boggling. Oh, well. Always believed that Bettman hates the Rangers.
