They finished with more points this year than last year.

Nothing in this world would make me happier than leapfrogging the Devils in this draft. I might die from happiness.

Yeah this is my motivation too. He has been a little blocked by Hughes, and Zegras has exploited little weaker teams with production to a larger extent, but he is the 2nd best player on that team.

Wthe US U18 team has played stronger teams Turcotte has really lead the charge and separated himself. But it’s not like I don’t respect people being high on Zegras, his creativity is really good. Turcotte is the better guy on the rush, carrying the puck, playing a 200 feet game.

I would compare Turcotte with Zetterberg and Zegras with say Marc Savard.

But it should be noted that I’ve always been a big fan of those really strong complete centers that Turcotte compares to like Zetterberg, Bergeron, Datayuk and co. Feels like it’s those guys that wins you championships.

Zegras vs NCAA D1 and international competition: 34 points in 23 games, PPG 1.47

Turcotte vs NCAA D1 and international competition: 14 points in 11 games. PPG 1.27

Lets not get it twisted, Zegras has been more productive against the cream of their schedule.

Isn't Zegras playing with Hughes?

Turcotte is the center the U18 team lean on when they play Sweden, Russia and so forth.

But that production is impressing, no doubt. How does it look 5 on 5?

BTW, the Winnipeg pick was screwed a bit tonight by their win, had they just got 1 point tonight it drops 3 spots to 18 at the highest and 16 at the lowest. 4 teams at 99 pts and Winnipeg got the tie breaker..

But it’s good nonetheless.

He has, but they shift guys around a bunch. He's centered the 4th line himself at times (so has Turcotte)

Hughes didn't participate in their last international tournament.

Zegras had 7 pts in the tournament, Turcotte had 5.

But 4 of those pts where against the Czechs... ;)

I have no idea how they were lucky. At least by the eye test, they played a lot better this year. The defense wasn't anywhere near as bad with a worse roster.

They went through the season relatively unscathed injury wise and the puck luck was on their side more often than not.

They still gave up a shit load of scoring chances against. They weren't the abhorrent gong show that they were under AV, but they weren't a whole lot better (which isn't a surprise, look at what they're running out there.)

They tried a lot harder this year, thats for sure. I think the fact that they finished with more points this season speaks to how awful AV was (and how good Zibanejad was this year.)

could be mistaken but i was under the impression the draft rankings for teams in the playoffs are determined by the order they're knocked out of the playoffs

If you could choose every result for the next 2 months I think the absolute best case for us is this:

1. Tampa, Dallas make CF for obvious reasons.
2. The two other CF teams are from below Winnipeg in the current standings. So possibilities are: Colorado, San Jose, Vegas in the west and only Carolina in the east (since we still need Tampa to win the other four-some.)

That would put us with, ideally:
6th - NYR*
19th - WPG
28th - DAL (if say Vegas goes back to SCF - it'd be 30th if Dallas makes it and loses)
31st - TB

Lol.

They also took like over 1/4 of their games to over time this year

Determining the NHL Draft Order
  1. All teams missing the playoffs are in the Lottery
  2. Teams with the least points get more chances at winning the Lottery
  3. The 1st overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls
  4. The 2nd overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls
  5. The 3rd overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls
  6. Remaining lottery teams, sorted by points, fill out picks 4-15
  7. Ties are broken by teams' total number of regulation and non-shootout overtime wins (ROW), and then head-to-head if still tied
  8. Playoff teams that did not win their divisions and did not make the conference finals, sorted by points, are assigned the next picks
  9. Playoff teams that won their divisions and did not make the conference finals, sorted by points, are assigned the next picks
  10. Conference finals losers sorted by points are assigned picks 28 and 29
  11. Stanley Cup runner-up is assigned pick 30
  12. Stanley Cup champion is assigned pick 31

Exactly. I like the top three and then Byram (a lot) / Dachs / Soderstrom. Once you get past the top 2-3 its really just accepting you'll get a decent player.

The Rangers always do weird stuff in the draft. Last night I convinced myself if they won the whole thing they might not take Hughes.
