I'm sure they would love to take the top two players in the draft but that team needs some help now, they want to keep those few Stars they have happy.

It would be an interesting scenario and maybe one of the better teams for us to be able to trade up with. Definitely not giving them Miller.

We are going to win the #1 pick and Colorado is going to win the #2 pick with their own 1st and then trade us Ottawa's pick which slides to #4. This is after Winnipeg gets bounced in the first round and Dallas loses to TB in the Final.

So yeah I think Hughes and Byram would be a decent haul.

I think that's where the conversation would end, sadly, unless they would take our 1st, Skjei and a lesser prospect as the basis of the return since our pick would be rather high.

Hypothetically, if I were in their shoes, I'd trade down to 5 or 6 where Byram would be available and get another blue chipper, or I would trade the #2 overall outright for an absolute ransom. The #2 overall would easily net an established top 4 defenseman on a great contract, a blue chipper between 18-20 years old, and a lower 1st rounder.

Say...back to Ottawa for Brannstrom, Ceci, and Columbus' 2019 1st? Or....to Carolina for Slavin, Fox, and Carolina's 2019 1st? Just hypothetical...
Slavin and Ceci are literally oceans apart in quality.

Intriguing, but can you imagine coming away with Hughes and Kakko?

I don't really know who you'd take for that second pick, or if the values line up.

Let's say you're the Rangers, who do you offer? And let's say you're the Avs, what do you want?

If I'm the latter, am I asking for the Rangers pick and Chytil or Miller?
Depending where the rangers pick, and we’re talking #2. I would seriously consider chytil and the 1st. Pretty sure I’d do it too.

If Colorado has #1 and #2 I’d really consider Zibanejad and the Rangers 1st for the #1

So we're trading our 25 year old point per game center for an 18 year old center that has the ceiling of a point per game player, plus our 1st rounder? Can't say I would be ok with that.

Hughes ceiling is Patrick Kane. And I’d gladly trade Zib and our first for that without question.

Hughes’ ceiling is higher than a point per game, and I’m not saying it wouldn’t hurt to do, but Hughes can be a franchise cornerstone

Best case scenario for the Rangers to get another lottery pick would be if Colorado's own pick ends up in the 8-12 range and they miss out on Byram. That might put them in the market for a young NHL LHD on a decent contract. Would of course depend on what they think about Skjei.

Maybe Skjei and Winnipeg’s 1st for the Colorado 1st and someone like Shane Bowers?

Certainly possible. Alternatively the Avs might just move the pick and a prospect for Skjei. There were rumors years ago that the Rangers and Stars had a deal on the floor in 2012 where Dubinsky would go to Dallas for the #13 pick if Grigorenko was still available. So it could be a deal similar to that as well.

Speaking of, Grigorenko seems to have finally found his game in the KHL. 52 in 55 this season and 8pts in 4 playoff games so far. Wonder if he tries to get back into the NHL after his deal is up next summer. Always had the talent but was just a step behind the play in the NHL.

For the sake of argument, here is the trade history for the 2OA:

Obviously, in some of these trades, it wasn't known those first round picks would end up being 2OA.

So, trades done at the actual draft when 2OA was known:
Canadiens/Golden Seals in '72
Canadiens/Flames in '73
Whalers/Sharks in '93
Sharks/Predators in '98
Canucks/Thrashers in '99
Senators/Islanders in '01

Spezza and Chara for Yashin is just a beautiful, beautiful trade

God bless Mike Milbury

It’s intriguing to say the least.

A cost controlled, pro-ready, potential star forward?

The asking price has to be high.
Thx for taking the time earlier. I needed a heated debate to let off some steam.

Good game good game

Would you trade Chytil and our pick for Kakko? Would that be worth it? Kakko seems like the real deal and perennial all-star type

Yeah, I would.

I don’t think the AVS would.

But if I could and did, I’d then try to package other assets and see if I can work my way into another high pick.

watched a bunch of videos. My center rankings (just for fun)

Hughes - Hughes is Hughes
Cozens - bull in China shop type of center, super competitive from what I can tell which the Rangers love. He really drives the play out there.
Turcotte - has epic speed, Rangers will love that but he doesn't have a high level of compete. Has top center potential but with some potential pitfalls.
Krebs - he looks like he'll be a solid 2nd line center with great vision, have him higher than Newhook because he feels like a sure thing just with a lower ceiling
Newhook - he's like a slower version of Turcotte. And by slower I mean by only a bit. ;) He has the upper talent upside.
Suzuki - decent package. He's not as fast as Newhook but his defense is better. Looks like he can think at NHL speed.
Zegras - just seems very mediocre, does a lot of things well but none at a high level. Probably a 2nd or 3rd line center (aka top 9). He is young though so he may have one of those development spurts that is hard to see when you armchair/youtube scout someone.
Dach - i really don't like Dach. he's slow. thinks slow. I think he's just a product of playing against lower competition. I have a hard time seeing him succeed at NHL speeds. Maybe he just has me totally fooled. Decent passer. He's big though so maybe he can be a low energy 4th liner?
