Yeah the Rangers could never win the cup with a bunch of Russians playing important roles...

Having Russian's play a key role for Washington really killed them last year too.

I do. At the U20 Four Nations he was better than Podkolzin, which is what pushed me to the point where I want Dorofeyev as much as Podkolzin. I think both are great prospects with game-breaking talent, but Dorofeyev has a better overall skillset. With the risk of going for a lazy comparison, he reminds me a lot of Kravtsov who also has a very complete skillset. I think Podkolzin might drop a bit unless he improves his play off the puck
Interesting take. Where do you see both going? I cannot see Podkolzin dropping out of the top 10 (I have him as top 5) and cannot see Dorofeyev going too early (have him outside the top 15, probably 20-25 range).

This board has been in love with Euro prospects, especially Russians forever. Sadly, the Rangers are following suit which is why this team has been pushed around with ease for many years now.
Have you told Ovechkin and Malkin that they are soft?

The Rangers were not pushed around under Torts. They were under AV because his brand of turn the other cheek hockey leads to that. Gorton and Quinn have shown that they are not interested in continuing such play. The players that they seem to be building around, be they Canadian, US, Russian, Scandanavian, Euro, all seem to have some common genes in that result.

Dorofeyev reminds me of Kravtsov a lot. Not just the way he plays, but also trajectory. Dorofeyev, like Kravtsov is projected as a late first rounder in December.

Anton Lundell didn't play, but he visited us in the sky box. Got to meet him! The reason he isn't playing is because he flies to Canada tomorrow for the World Juniors. I told him I was going as well and he asked if I was seeing a Finland game. Now I really want to!

I honestly agree with this, though. Dorofeyev has an incredible skillset that could drive plays similar to Kravtsov. It seems like a lazy comparison, but it is indeed accurate.

I mean Podkolzin does, too, but Dorofeyev has had more KHL exposure. I also feel, as though, the different make-ups on these teams will provide better exposure. Magnitogorsk isn't that full, depth-wise, which will give Dorofeyev a clearer look in the KHL. However, SKA is stacked, which could give Podkolzin a harder time trying to crack the roster. It obviously goes without saying that ice-time is deserved, but it shows that Dorofeyev is a legit talent.

Soo Greyhounds v Hamilton Bulldogs today 3:30 E on NHL N.

Thanks for the heads up.

Interested in seeing a number of players on Hamilton, especially Kaliyev. He's listed as being born in Staten Island on Hockey DB, and Del Ray Beach Florida on other sites, anyone know which is the truth?

Going to have to dig into him more but I think Cole MacKay might be sneaking into the 2nd round for me. I'd sort of written him off as a product of Frost/Hayton, but there's a lot to like about his game. Good feel for the play and is always putting himself in the right spot to find the puck or break up a play. Underrated vision too as he's set guys up for a number of good chances. Plus I'd heard some negatives about his skating and while he doesn't have blazing speed his stride is good and his edge work seems to be above average as well.

Podkolzin gets overrated where as Dorofeyev is underrated, they’re not far apart at all (Podkolzin is 9th for me while Dorofeyev is at 11)
Ha if they’re that good you do. Especially if you have 3 picks to use.
why do we need another goalie?
Lundell is scary good!! I expect him to go high next draft!!
For sure. I have him 2nd right now

Goalies aren't important enough to warrant a 1st round pick in my opinion

That’s a relatively new opinion. I don’t agree with if the goalie is BPA. Even more so if you have multiple picks to use.

Not sure how much you’ve seen of spencer knight but he’s a game changer

I've had this opinion for years now. Goalies just aren't as important to winning games as centers and defensemen are. The difference between an elite goalie and a good goalie is not nearly as noticeable as the difference between an elite center/winger/D-man and a good center/winger/D-man.

Someone referred to the goalie position being the punter of hockey and I tend to agree when it comes to value. Look at Montreal with Price. Sure, he's a great goalie but how much is it helping them honestly? I just don't agree with building a team from the back. Spencer Knight might be the best goalie prospect since Price but even then I still don't think it's worth it because we have other, more important positions to fill. We have Lundqvist, we have Shestyorkin.

I completely disagree. A franchise goalie is much more important as a late first round pick than a guy that tops out as a bottom 6 or 4-6 dman.

Agree to disagree here big time. And again especially if you have multiple first round picks. This kid isn’t a maybe like Montoya who got famous off a tournament. Knight is a total stud.
