I mean, if Boldy is there around No. 15 I think that's a no brainer. But he will likely rise on some lists....
Wouldn't mind Soderstrom, either!!

All Russian 1st round? Bold!!![]()
The skill comparison is amazing. I didn't think that the level was that high. He also has an aspect to his game that both Datsyuk & Nash did not have. One thing that surprised me that was brought up is how high Matt Boldy is thought of in a lot of scouting circles. Many think he's going to rise high as the season goes on and will end up a top 5 pick. Comparisons like "the American Pavel Datsyuk" and "a more skilled Rick Nash" were stated to my friend in regards to Boldy.
If that happens, I will gladly buy you twoPodkolzin in the top10, Dorofeyev with our 2nd pick in the first round. If that happens, everyone here owes me a beer.
Curious to see how you answer, but what aspect is that? The skill comparison is amazing. I didn't think that the level was that high. He also has an aspect to his game that both Datsyuk & Nash did not have.
From what I saw/read, and take that with a grain of salt as clearly I do not watch that level of hockey all that often, is that Boldy has a much tougher game than either of them. That, combined with the apparent skill and motor, seems to make him a great get for what Gorton & Quinn are building.Curious to see how you answer, but what aspect is that?
Ah gotcha. Yeah, Boldy has that unique ability to play any type of game and be adaptable to in-game changes. It’s why I call him JT Miller with a motor and no lazy attitude. From what I saw/read, and take that with a grain of salt as clearly I do not watch that level of hockey all that often, is that Boldy has a much tougher game than either of them. I understand the sentiment, but think that you are extremely underrating Byram in this case. Which is not to say that were it up to me that I would pass on any of those forwards. Including Boldy right now. Just saying it is not quite a slam dunk.I agree with you here. You can’t pass up some of these forwards like Cozens, Dach, and Podkolzin for Byram.
It sounds like this will be one heck of a draft! Or are we being too exuberant / are wearing rose-colored glasses in the midst of a rebuild? To have two strong back-to-back drafts seems ... unlikely.
Absolutely love Byram, if we cant get Hughes or Kakko hes the guy I really hope were able to getLove some of the forwards we're discussing, but I think we're sleeping on Byram quite a bit.
Stronger top half of the first, maybe slightly less clear-cut talent in the second half of the first, not as much perceived depth in the second round and beyond.
So either sell our older talent (which is still mostly young — except for MZA) to acquire a top-15 pick. That seems unlikely or foolish.
I wasn’t saying it as a slight against Byram, but I still think this franchise needs that top-line potential player who can be our driver on offense. I also think it’s just easier to find dmen later in the draft if you’re focusing on kids with good short-area agility that can handle how forwards are getting faster.I understand the sentiment, but think that you are extremely underrating Byram in this case. To continue this from other thread.
I think there's a lot of value to be had with first round picks in this draft. Just don't think you're going to have as many kids who immediately sky rocket in their D+1 season (Miller, etc.)
But in terms of older, but still mostly young talent, I think we're primarily talking about Hayes.
In his case, I think the Rangers would look for a prospect to be a big part of any potential deal.
I would imagine so. Would you try to hold on to Hayes? Or get a prospect and a decent pick (like we did with McD last year)? He looks pretty good this year — though, admittedly, it is a contract year.
I’d be pretty disappointed if we could only turn him into a Foley-level prospect. At a base level, my target would be someone on the level of Dylan Samberg.Personally, I would probably push to move him. We need the assets, his value is high, and I think we're already seeing that our young talent is continuing to come along and progress. So we're reaching that point where, for better or worse, we're going to have to take the plunge with them.
I think the hope would be to get a return similar to the Stastny trade last season.

Think that is the crux of the debate. 1) What does the franchise need more, for long term viability? The top line forward or the #1 defenseman? 2) What has historically been harder to find? The top line forward or the #1 defenseman. Conventional wisdom (or so I believe) would say that the latter is harder to locate. But that is just me.I wasn’t saying it as a slight against Byram, but I still think this franchise needs that top-line potential player who can be our driver on offense. I think Byram is an absolute stud and a lock to be a great defenseman for a long time. He has that unique ability to control the flow of the game from the backend while also being able to make plays at a really high pace.
Admittedly do not know that much about him, but Byram is the one who stands out among the defensemen in the draft as the one who could anchor the top defensive pairing for 10 years. The one kid who I’m also really high on his Jake Lee out of Seattle. I think he’s going to be a steady riser all year and end up being a late first round steal. Big, strong kid with good wheels that has a really well-rounded defensive game. The offense is a bit of a surprise this season, but he’s shaping up to be a two-way force.

I think it's the contract situation.
If you could work something out with a team where they had a window to talk extension, and Hayes were willing to sign that extension, the value goes up significantly.
But without such an arrangement in place, I don't think you're going to get a McD like return for Hayes on an expiring contract. And I think some people (not you) might be secretly hoping for that.
Give me a 1st and a quality prospect and I’m good. I want another three #1’s in the upcoming draft.
With last nights W the Rangers are now 15th on the talkathon site. That equates to a 1% chance at the 1OA and a 3% chance of the top 3.
