my hope is that this organization cannot **** this one up this year. can they ?

i remain cautiously optimistic.
This year, over most others, has the Rangers in a position to do very well with the first pick. Even players, some would be upset about, like Tkachuk or Farabee would be good picks at 9. I am hoping for Wahlstrom but would be happy with many others. In 2010 it was Tarasenko or bust for me.

I just posted a 2-round mock draft for Sporting News

9. Adam Boqvist (Wahlstrom gone)
26. Jay O'Brien (Bokk, Denisenko, Berggren, Kaut gone)
28. Blake McGlaughlin (over Noel)
39. Sampo Ranta (Hallander gone)

48. Ryan Merkley (Lundkvist, JBD, Tychonick gone)

9. Speed/shot
26. Speed/shot
28. Vision/High IQ
39. Speed/Shot
48. Speed/Vision

My ideal, biased, there-is-a-God draft for the Rangers up to pick 70

9. Farabee
26. Berggren
28. Tychonick
39. McLaughlin
48. JBD
70. Michal Kvasnica

Can anyone give me a report on the bolded? Don't know much about them

What was the reaction to Chytil last year? He was absolutely a reach in terms of perceived rankings, but look how that worked out....

Something tells me your gonna see an awful lot of that...this year as well.

Like I said, peeling folks off the ceiling, Lulz.

Not nearly as "What the f*@#" as Andersson with the #7. They are looking pretty good with it so far.

And for the record, i was absolutely one of the posters that was furious with it. Mittelstadt, Vilardi, Suzuki, Brannstrom were the players I was hoping for in that order. Andersson has had a really great start to his NYR career. Last year however I feel was a much different draft.

Two horse race for #1 spot, with 6 or 7 players I really liked.

This years its a one horse race who may be a triple crown!

love boqvist and merkley plays. and merkley at 48 is stupid value. i would do merkley at 39 in a heart beat.

at 26 and 28 i would go euro/russian forward there or perhaps even alexeyev.

names like jenik, demin or albin eriksson, shafilgullin and khovanov at 48 may all be available.

Some sleepers from scouts:
Is there a player you think is rated lower in the NHL rankings than he should be? Ie. Sleeper pick
  • Ty Emberson, D, U-18, U.S. NTDP”
  • Martin Kaut, RW, Pardubice, Czech”
  • Ryan Merkley, D, Guelph Storm, OHL, is rated low because of the obvious. If I had two picks in the first round I would take a gamble on him. He would be a top-five candidate based on his skill set.”
  • Alexander Romanov, D, CSKA, MHL”
  • Oskar Back, C, Farjestad-BK U20, SuperElit”
  • Jay O’Brien, C, Thayer Academy, High School”
  • Jesse Ylonen, RW, Espoo, Mestis”
NHL Scouts Poll: On 'generational talents', the defencemen...

Ylonen is a good call. Could be a good selection late first, early second.

Really like both your actual and biased drafts. #28 may be a bit early for Blake McG but I like him a lot.

and tolvanen/kostin

I wanted Pettersson, tolvanen, Kostin in that order. Obviously Pettersson was gone but after one year you could say any of those picks would be very very good ones. The fact that Kostin and TOlvanen went deep in the first round gives me hope some serious obvious tAlent will drop to 26/28 this year .

So, is it that apparent that the Rangers covet Zadina,

If they were paying attention at all to the other Czech republic players when they were scouting Chytil the World Juniors, they absolutely should be.

So, is it that apparent that the Rangers covet Zadina,

It sounds crazy, doesn't it?

I mean who would not covet him??

But then again someone will pass on him....

It's gotten to the point where I'm overthinking all of this.

Let's just do this damn thing.
