I actually think that's a better stylistic comparison than the Pacioretty one that gets thrown around. In my viewings of Wahlstrom, he has looked more physical and like a better skater than I ever remember Patches being.
the kid is an absolute sniper....hes taken a bit of a hit because he doesnt "create" his own offense, but so what? stick him with buch for the next 5 years and they both can be animals

Noel is an impressive hockey talent. But like, at the same age 6’5 Jesse Puljujärvi scores what 22 pts in 7 games in the U20 WJC — and look how far he has to go before he can keep up and get involved in the NHL. Pulju joined the u18 team late that year and destroyed that tournament (without Laine and Aho, scored a hatty in the final).

In the midst of the clutch and grab trapping era — a midget like Marty St Louis played well. In this blitzing speed era — some big players will do well in the NHL too. But it’s not as easy to like look at a Wheeler and think that a Noel can just do what he is doing. BW has grown into it, played with the same guys a long time, Wheeler is a big talent. Jamie Benn? There are so many guys like that who hasn’t come close either. Noel would look tremendously out of place as of today — he has to improve so so much just to play a regular shift.

If we had 1 first and zero other picks in the top five rounds, would we take Noel? If not I wouldn’t take him now either. There will be many good players available later in the first.

While this is essentially the dream scenario, I'd almost be pissed that the Rangers didn't pay a minimal price to move up to 17 or 18 to lock this in. If Kravtsov falls past 15 it's time to start mobilizing all that draft capital to get **** done.

I dunno who it'll be for but I'm pretty much assuming the Rangers will be trying to move up...but I tend to think it needs to be for a real talented faller

O'Brien is an interesting kid we haven't talked about.

People talk about the skills he's displayed against younger kids and the offensive potential. He's a little older, so I think there are some who would've preferred to see it against a higher level of competition, but he's a little bit of a sleeper for me.

If the skills translate at the higher levels, you're potentially looking at an offensive minded center who plays a top six role.

But we don't know how they'll transfer. In limited viewings in the USHL or USDP he hasn't set the world on fire --- but he's also jumping into the deep end on teams he doesn't play with on a regular basis. But you can't deny the prep numbers jump out at you.

Theoretically a longer-term investment, higher upside kind of pick.

IMO Kravtsov at 9 is too early. If the Rangers want him they should try to move up with their 26 + something else and try to get into the lower teens.
based on mckensie and button's most recent mock he will be available at 26 or 28 im not saying that will happen but those guys have some insight

He's in a weird spot. He's likely not getting out of the top 13, but there are 2-3 other guys I'd rather have in our spot ahead of him.

reminds you of krieder at all? not skill wise but played at the prep level and excelled there

A+: Zadina
A: Hughes, Boqvist, Tkachuk, Wahlstrom, Farabee
B+: Bouchard, Dobson, Kotkaniemi
B: Smith, Kravtsov, Denisenko
This is what I was ultimately waiting for Edge... thanks. I like knowing what to root for... as I said I think in ‘10 and this year I’ve read enough from a lot of sources to know but this cheat sheet helps.

He's very intriguing.....but he's not in my top ten--that's my problem....and anyway all things being more or less equal I'd rather take a defenseman at 9. I would really like to see the Rangers move up that 26th pick though and if we do he'd be a primary target.

You really want to die on that Farabee over Kravstov hill? :P

Keep in mind, some of the grade isn't just talent or upside. It's also value for the pick.

To me Kravtsov is a bit riskier. If you get the "A" version of what we've seen, he's a top 10 talent. If you get the other version, he's a late first round pick.

So taking him at 9, with other guys still likely on the board, drops the value for me a little. That's not to say it can't be a homerun, it's just not my first choice for that particular pick.
