Murray is a ufa in 1 year, right? Nutivaara in 2 years and at $2.7m. Much easier to move

Yeah same with Gudbranson at one year $4 million Cap / $3 million salary. Certainly easier to move one year of a guy, NJ probably plans to use him up until the TDL and then just sell him off to a contender if they aren't in the mix again. Next year can be Gardiner's year. Dump him for a 7th and try to pay Seattle to take Niederreiter.

Yeah, no. To me, at these trade prices, trading Dzingel/Gardiner/Nino is dumb AF unless you know for sure that some top UFA wants to sign with you. Columbus is certainly acting as if they do have a UFA signing or blockbuster trade almost finished.

Yeah, it's easy to take guys you don't want with smaller or shorter contracts and move them. Not rocket surgery.

Teams are willing to sell really low, Canes don’t seem to be about that. Hopefully our loyalty pays off.

The prices for these dumps remind me of the offseason after that year-long lockout back in 2005. Hell no, I hope the Canes stay far away from the trade market right now unless the Laine deal is signed, sealed, and delivered. The time to deal IMO is the deadline. Bounce-back years and larger league-wide cap budgets at that time greatly increase asset returns.

I honestly thought he'd be gone for a 3rd or a 4th by the draft. Perhaps they really want to give him another shot. I think if they do, they need to be prepared to stop worrying about what he's not. He started out well on a hot third line that could feast a little. Unfortunately, that's unlikely to happen now with Jordan running the third line.

Huh? We sold CDH very low last year. Skinner the year before.

Or are you just talking about this year?

An obvious medical issue (that flared up again this season) and the contentious Aho negotiations was the catalyst for CDH's cap dump, not his play on the ice. Skinner wasn't a contract dump but a pending UFA sell-off. From what we know, all of these guys that we're talking about are healthy and there's no urgent need to dump anybody, with only Foegele and Fleury as RFAs. The time to deal Dzingel, if at all, is IMO at the deadline for a Trocheck-like contract at a position of need.

That was a Smoke screen.
1. CDH had the same medical issue before we signed him in the first place. If we were so concerned, why sign him?
2. he was replaced with a guy (Gardiner) coming off a serious medical issue of his own.
3. Are we going to dump Pesce for having his 3rd shoulder injury (and second surgery) since college?

IMO, canes moved CDH because they were preparing for a larger Aho offer sheet. It was a cap dump.
