Nutivaara, the LHD they got from Columbus for a contract slot, is good defensively, as well. Yandle's underrated by the HF community because of age-ism, but most of his value is on the PP. This group isn't that terrible, at least IMO (Weegar is RH but plays the left side; he's sort of the Brodie of RH defensemen):

Florida fan: you hit on the head. Weegar plays on his off-side with us. Your third pairing is our second. I think it is a better defense than before but still problematic with Stralman’s contract and Yandle’s contract. We just lack a number 3 guy which makes it rough.

I mean, given what has happened today, I'm kind of glad we're not involved. There hasn't been anything signed today that makes me go "damn, I wish we had gotten in on that", so I can't say that sitting it out is a bad strategy.

Everyone's been saying it to an extent, but I don't think that there's an understanding to how far it's going to go. Would not be surprised if the market gets so narrow in places that even a hypothetical 1-year Vatanen return may end up coming on-budget, especially since the Ducks just got Shattenkirk and there's so many RHD on the market.

Good landing spot for Schultz. He got crapped on a lot in Pittsburgh this year but he actually is pretty underrated defensively. He was essentially stuck to the JMFJ boat anchor, which made his play look a lot worse than it actually was. 2x4 (with a flat cap, not a normal year) is still a bit rich for my tastes, though.

4m per/2, that's pretty rough if he doesn't bounce back, term isn't bad though but should probably be closer to his last year's pay/2. 5/2 is a lot better than 8/2

I read AND watch. I do both. My Premium NHL subscription never goes to waste. I do lean one way, sure, but I always make sure to check with my eyes. Schultz is a sound complimentary defender if you don't assign him to do too much or tie him to a boat anchor.
