Prospect Info: Draft 2025 Habs you're on the clock

Columbus 14OA probably disponible as they would like their 2026 2nd back.

17OA + CBJ 2026 2nd for 14OA?

Columbus and Vancouver have openly said their 1st round picks are available. CBJ has 14th. VAN has 15th.

Find a way to get CBJ's 14th. Then find a way to get VAN's 15th. Then go on to pick 14th, 15th, 16th & 17th. ;)

Then you go and take Bear, Carbonneau, Spence, and Fiddler. Easy peasy.

Wheeler is a goober.

Agreed. You can tell when someone sits in his basement and writes stuff that he’s never seen the prospects live, except on TV. What a joke. He gets more reputation that he actually does the work. Non sense.

Hahah yeah no.

For me, I don't value those 2nd rounders very much for the Habs right now. In the actual state of the rebuild, Habs should aim for highest picks possible
Do you have info or is it just speculation?
It's based on the fact Columbus GM talked about the Offersheet option for them and Habs owning their 2026 2nd.

Yeah, it could be good leverage for the Habs if CLB wants to go offersheet.
Because otherwise, i get the impression that CLB 1st is available for immediate help rather than for trading down.

Haven't followed this thread as much as in previous years (will catch up on posts asap) but does anyone actually expect us to make two 1st round picks? I'm hoping we keep both, but I'm going into this draft with the impression being that it's almost a foregone conclusion we're flipping one of our 1st rounders for a player on draft night. I'd be shocked to see us pick twice that night and even more shocked if we made the picks back to back.

What's the general consensus here?
Opinions differ on the matter. You have read some in response to your post already.

My opinion? Hughes has repeated they’re at a stage where they are ready to overpay. Overpaying means giving up good draft picks and prospects.

I see them trading at least one 1st rounders ++. Status quo is not acceptable for this org. 100%players feel the same way.

Hard to guess who will be available at 16 and 17. my personal opinion is if the guys I am interested in are not available, rather than reach for someone, I would trade back for a late first and a 2nd, even if we need to add another pick to do it, I have far more guys in the 2nd round that interest me more than the guys at 16-28 on most lists. Walking away with 2 late firsts and 4 or more 2nd rounders might be much better value, and higher odds to hit on someone. I don't really see much difference in 18-48 and there are guys who will be gone by the Pittsburgh pick I would love to draft that would be a reach at 16 and 17.

The NHL is closely monitoring the ongoing civil unrest and protests in Los Angeles, which will host the draft in just 16 days.

The Peacock Theater and LA Live are both within the current curfew zone, which restricts activities and movement from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.”

This idea of having a few other top picks could be a viable option if we determine that the center market is not feasible.

Sadly, ZZ Top will be on Ice at the Bell Center.

I can’t remember a year where so many of the teams drafting top 10 were so willing to trade their pick.

What they end up negotiating in private is a whole other matter. However, it may be another indication of how little some GMs think of this draft class.

It's like the Habs making the playoffs caused a bunch of GMs to believe it could have been their team and that means the rebuild is over or refusing to see that the roster have hits its best before date...

Still a few teams have cap issues and they don't have a choice to trade players (like Dallas needing way more cap space, or Sharks who are like $30m under the cap floor).

a lot of people try to do pull ups using their arms, when really it is your back you need to engage, makes it much easier and probably what Bennett was doing wrong
He was embarrassed by his performance and his lack of progression in his first few years, so he took working out seriously and became a bit of a warrior. His back was probably pretty weak at the draft, too. Don’t know if his technique was off as well. But he was a weakling!

I think he may have needed shoulder surgery at the time as well
