I like McGuire as he clearly knows his stuff but man does he say some strange ****.

I trash McGuire a lot but he’s still a decent analyst. Like anything though, can’t take one guy’s opinion as the gospel. Should always take in multiple points of view. Bob’s list for example was a collaboration with 10 scouts. If he built that list talking to just one it obviously wouldn’t be a consensus.

To each their own opinion, but valuing an individual who has shown time and time again that he has a hard on for a given team is futile. McGuire ripped the Habs for years for not taking Kopitar, organizational need he cited. Now a decade later he rips the Habs for taking a big center that best projects to a kopitar?!? It’s ridiculous!

He also rips the habs over age anytime he can, but this time we took one of the youngest guys in the draft.

One day after the draft, every single recruiter is happy with his draft. We picked 11 players. Odds are bigger to have picked a really good player than a team that had 3 selections. People like to twist is however they want and actually act as if they knew something other people don't know... but it's a lottery, nothing more nothing less. The idea that people on this very board act all mighty and arrogant because they read a couple of reports online and saw a guy play a game or two is laughable.

Look at every team performance this decade and there's no reason to be overly optimistic knowing who called the shots and his records in the last few years.

Great draft! Lots of potentially good players coming aboard. We can't prevent other teams from drafting good players as well and not every draft lines up with those personal draft ranking favourites that some fans seem to have and get silly sad when the guys they thought should've been picked get passed over..The scouts are the pros and the ones who get paid to watch these guys and make suggestions accordingly.I actually like the Romanov pick in particular as I think he could be a bit of a hidden gem.

Last time Timmins was this excited over a defenseman they drafted in the 2nd round, we didn't regret it, like, at all.

We tought we had our center taking care of when the Habs drafted Galchenyuk.
Remember how McCarron, Collberg, DLR, Fucale or Thrower were all exciting prospects......

I'll give them a note in 3 years from now.

Like many players in that draft, i think they missed on a couple of them. We'll see.

Err, but that's true for every single team...
If we didn't get mostly misses we would be an all star team every year...

There's miss and really miss. When you go totally off the board while others are still available and are supposed to go early in the draft.....that's where it could really hurt.

McCarron was one of those picks. When you go with a guy everybody saw going mid to low 2nd round pick and missed on a player most saw going mid to Low 1st round (Like Theodore or Hartman). That's the kind of miss that hurts the team.

Habs took 2 of those picks this year and they were very high picks which makes it even more dangerous.

Yet on the flip side a lot of guys who slide on draft day end up being busts as well. Collberg was supposed to be a 1st round pick, Beaulieu slide something like 7-8 spots. In 2012 we had something like 5 guys who were ranked top-60 in McKenzie's list. Yet all but Galchenyuk busted hard. Sometimes passing on those highly ranked players is the right call, sometimes it's not.

Is it true that TT compared Romanov to Emelin while Romanov compare himself to Markov

I'm not sure who romanov compared himself to, but yes, Timmins mentioned emelin.

He also went on to say that romanov has tons of energy, he's physical, and he has a hard shot.

They were also impressed with how he played on the smaller rink.

What did we get for the 62th pick|? See where we traded it but can't find what we got. Also, I thought we had 3 4ths, hockeydb only showing 2?

I like the fact that they concentrated on talent and centers... Tough to judge, I'm not an expert and those guys are so young but I believe they had a good strategy and they sticked to it... I also have the feeling that the high market value of centers is something they really considered. They picked 9 centers in the past 2 drafts so the odds are good that we get at least one that is top 6 - maybe 2 if lucky.

Romanov, I really don't now and especially so early... They must really like him because there was a couple good, easy picks available, guys that play in our backyard too, easy to follow up. I would have loved a move for Beaudin which I saw many times and liked. I did check some Romanov's vids and the guy sure know how to skate and demonstrates a good puck control. I was also impressed by his stance at his interview. Seemed very calm, in control. I have a good feeling, certainly a prospect to follow closely.

I also liked the fact that they traded for 2019 picks. We need more drafts like this.

In last 4 drafts, Canadiens have made 29 picks. All were centers or defensemen except 2 wingers and 1 goalie. 26 out of 29.

We sent #62 to EDM and got their #71 and #133.

We took Harris at #71 and Houde with #133.

Edmonton took Rodrigue with our #62.

We traded one of our fourths (#122) to Calgary for their 4th in 2019. We also traded one of our 4ths (#102) for SJS’s #123 (a fourth) and #139 (a fifth). We then flipped that #139 to Chicago for their 2019 5th rounder.

Calgary took Roman with our fourth, and SJS took Weatherby.

We took Gorniak with SJS’s fourth.

The last time I heard Timmins rave about a second round prospect was back in 2007

For whatever it's worth, Corey Pronman graded all the team's performance at the draft in The Athletic. He gave the Habs an "A." The only other team with an A were the Isles. And the Red Wings got an A-minus.

As of today, I would say this draft was mission accomplished. Now the interesting part is how these kids will do from here on out.

While we have a good group of posters that are good at following draft eligible players and help someone like me know who to look at before the draft, one of my favorite things is to follow the prospects once they're drafted. And I'm excited that there are a whole bunch of new kids to follow this year along with last year's crop.

The 2017 and 2018 drafts brought in a total of 18 prospects to the organization.

9 centers: Poehling, Ikonen, Kotkaniemi, Olofsson, Hillis, McShane, Fonstad, Houde & Stapley
6 defensemen: Brook & Fleury (RD), Walford, Tyszka, Romanov & Harris (LD)
2 wingers: Ylonen & Gorniak
1 goalie: Primeau

The centers is what they were listed as when they were drafted. Some of them have been put on the wing on their respective teams. But they are still natural centers.

Fonstad was moved to the wing at some point in the second part of the season where he looked much more confortable and more productive, so I would say he is more likely to be a winger down the road...
