Offensive peak is between 21-23 typically.

Wait, you said it was 21. You were very emphatic on that.
The chart is not showing peak performance. It's showing increase point production, because it's a chart showing an aging curve which is going to suffer from survivorship.

The reality is offensive impact peak in the NHL is 21.
23. There was a pretty extensive study done on this a few years ago. It's early but not 21 early.

Is Philly a team that is one elite player away from contending? Because they just gave out that offersheet to Carlsson.

They have a lot of decent young pieces - both established and up and coming. Adding a stud #1C would move the needle a lot for them. And based on where those picks are likely to end up (20+), it was a good gamble for them.

How do you guys see this team next season as is? IMO we take a bit of a back seat, muse will still do good getting a few guys better but I think we get a top 10 pick next season. We will be older and not better then last season where a bunch of players had career years.

Current team is probably:

Rakell-Crosby-Rust
Chinakhov-Novak-Malkin
Kuzmenko-Kindel-Brazeau
Dewar-Lizotte-Soderblom
Robertson, Lapierre

TVR-Karlsson
Girard-Korczak
Carlile-Letang
Solovyov

Silovs-Murashov

I think they’ll be competing with the Flyers and Devils for the #3 spot in the Metro, with Carolina in #1 and Washington in #2 in the Metro. Similar team on paper to last year, but likely won’t perform as well. But it shouldn’t be a huge step back, my O/U would be like 95 points.

Lots of question marks.

1. Is Sid still Sid? Or does he slide a little? To a lesser extent this applies to Malkin and EK.
2. Does Kindle take a step forward? Does he plateau a little, or take a step back?
3. Can we get lucky with our D, ie find a Spoon replacement that works?
4. What does the goaltending do?
5. Can any of the other players take a big step forward to help offset any of the above? Chinakhov, McG, Brunicke, someone else?

Overall I'm expecting us to do worse next season compared to last season. Ideally that means selling R/R, Novak, Braz, Kuz and EK. If we can do that and come out with a couple 2nds, a couple 1sts and a few nice, but not top tier prospects, then great.

Was kind of hoping we would put Girard with EK so we can pump and dump for a 2nd.

We are younger than last season.

Defense is arguably better on paper.
Offense is about the same on paper.
Goaltending clearly worse.

I imagine we are in the same spot we have been the last few years. Fringe playoff team either in or out by like 2-8 pts.

They're much further along with a good young core than we are. It might be a bit premature but for Philly it makes a lot more sense than it would for us.

What should have happen last season is sure to show up this season.

Last season saw a lot of "ifs" pan out/play above expected.

Line #1 is pretty much a lock.
Line#2 is in a "sophomore slump" expectation.
Line#3 is also in a "sophomore slump" expectation.
Line#4 is pretty much a lock.

TVR-Karlsson I expect good things
Girard-Letang I expect a little better
Carlile-Korzak Is a wait and see

Silovs I expect a rough year
Blomqvist I expect a rough year
Murashov ditto

The playoffs... They..

Let's look at the facts. Many low level players or underachievers had career years. We had a new coach and a new voice after a decade with the same old Sullivan.

My opinion is not so many new guys will have career years, the core is a year older and the novelty of the new voice might wear off a bit.

On paper I believe we're worse. I expect us to miss the playoffs. With injuries maybe by a lot.
