Salary Cap: Dr Dubas Cap Thread: He wants the Nurse

He's too expensive for me to think they'd want him. They allegedly want a LD back either in free agency or a trade after they trade Nurse, but I don't think the Penguins have a great fit for that. That said, retain Girard to 50% and I could see them being interested in him.

Nevermind the expense (which is obviously not nothing), the money given to Dickinson and Murphy indicates a preference for big, playoff style players. Tiny soff regular season children need not apply to big caveman defence.

Which probably includes Girard.

This is exactly why I think Girard would have borderline no value if you tried to trade him. It's the same exact issue as Grzelcyk, teams don't want soft and undersized puck movers who aren't extraordinary in some aspect.

They're better off going to someone like San Jose or Chicago and saying "you need defensemen, you can have Girard for a 4th" and see if they'd bite on that.

Don’t waste your time on this…per usual, Yohe is not hearing anything and has no sources…lol

Saying this before I read this article, but if this article says something along the lines of:

-The Penguins are listening on Rust and Rakell, but Rakell is more likely to move
-The Penguins want to move up in the draft and/or acquire young players
-They're not going to re-sign any of their UFAs

I'm drinking tonight.

And we can afford to do that. Retaining on expiring deals is something Dubas would be willing to do, I think.

Which is partially why I was so annoyed that we acquired him for a 2030 2nd round pick.

Which begs the question, how many do you have to collect before one of them becomes the exception to the rule?

It's why I'm not all that shy about including McGroarty and Koivunen in trade proposals, especially ones involving the draft to move up to get a guy like Bjorck.

If there is a single NHL GM in this league that watched Koivunen last year and thought “I want that guy on my team let’s give up something for him” then Dubas needs to make that trade immediately.

Actually reading that article, that was a good bit of new nuggets to share. Not that I think Yohe is credible, but it's at least different than what he has said in the past:
  • Penguins love Viggo Bjorck, which we've heard from a million sources already
  • If they stick at #22, they like Lin but are unsure if he makes it that far
  • The Penguins liked Samoskevich and inquired about him, but weren't willing to pay nearly what Seattle did
  • Dubas is allegedly going "big game hunting" this summer, with noting Byram is a guy the Pegnuins really like
  • They don't feel the need to gain more picks this year because of how many picks they had last year
So it's at least something new

More like…
They might move up, or move down the draft
Dubas is looking to go big game hunting
They like Bryam and Samo lol

Wouldn't they then want a Darnell Nurse?

The deal for Nurse needs to be better for us than simply not giving anything up though. What we're giving up is significant cap space and a roster spot to a bad fit for the next 4 years.

We need significant sweetener.
I do agree with you. A free Nurse isn’t really a good deal for any team in the league.

For me a sweetener of a 2nd+ would be good enough to take on a full Nurse deal.

As a reclamation project though he is still athletic enough to maybe a new system can get his game going. The deal needs to be right for us to take him full salary.

If you do take Nurse. I wonder what it means for Spoons do you pay 2LHD who are 30+?

God bless the team that Byram traps into the horrible contract they will inevitably sign him to.
