Milwaukee played the Manitoba Moose this morning at 10:30 for a kids game.
A local meteorologist put on a demo with potassium and water.

Period 1 had 10 minors called, 6 on the Ads. The Moose opened the scoring. The Ads tied it on a goal by Isaac Ratcliffe (1) with assists to Angello (2) and O'Reilly (7). The Moose re-took the lead, 2-1. The SOG were 16-5 Moose.

Period 2 had the Admirals scoring first to tie the game at 2 goals apiece. Fedor Svechkov (4) with assists to Jack Matier (3) and Kieffer Bellows (4). The Moose scored to take the lead, followed by the Admirals scoring 18 seconds later. It was Svechkov (5) again with assists to Kemell (6) and Bellows (5). The Moose scored again just before the end of the period to make it 4-3. The only penalty went to the Moose. The SOG were 16-8 Ads.

Period 3 had one goal, that by Reid Schaefer (8), with assists to Svechkov (3) and Ufko (2).
Schaefer scored with about 90 seconds remaining in the period to tie the game at 4-4.
The only penalty went to the Moose. (No, that is not a typo). The SOG were 9-8 Moose.

The game went into OT. Believe or not, there were three penalties in the OT session! At 2:00, the Moose got a minor for Interference. At 2:50, the Moose were called for GI. It must have been really bad because Milwaukee goalie Matt Murray was called for Roughing! Navrin Mutter served Murray's penalty. The SOG were 3-2 Moose, with a TKO by Murray.

In the Shoot Out, all three Admirals player failed to score, Lucchini, Svechkov and Hinostroza.
One Moose player, the second one scored for the win.

Svechkov was the #2 Star of the Game. There were 9207 fans. Murray had 32 saves.

The refs were Stephen Hiff (#46) and Harrison O'Pray (#82).

On Saturday, Milwaukee hosts Grand Rapids at 6 PM. That is 1st hosting 2nd place!!!

It is the longest home stand of the season, so far. (2 games)

I am looking forward to this one. It will be my first Ads game.
Welcome!

You will hear a lot of chants.

Let's Go Ads! (Frequently accompanied by a drum or drum sound)
(Ref You Suck!) They have the same cadence. In some games, they start with the first and switch!

Sieve! Sieve! Sieve!
It's all your fault! It's all your fault! It's all your fault! (You point at the goalie, each time.)

Referee, short and stout!
Find your head and pull it out!

There are a few more that I won't detail here.

You could follow US Highway 41 all the way to Milwaukee, but it is slow compared to I-69 and I-65.

It is about $20 to park at MacArthur Square on 7th Street. The arena is at 4th and Juneau, but it extends to where 5th Street would be. There is a lot of road construction in downtown.

Diagonally across from the UWM Panther Arena, it is $25 or $30. More if there is a Bucks game.

I believe Trotz already alluded to it but I think we’ve got to see Svechkov up in Nashville sometime soon given how he’s started the year. Whether Bruno can actually help with that transition is another question though.

They play in the UWM Panther Arena right? We are staying at a hotel a couple of blocks over.

I watched the Ads game yesterday. Overall it was a messy game from both sides and the refs didn't do a great job (not saying they were favoring anyone but just not a good performance by them).

But the main takeaway was this: Svechkov really had (a lot of) moments where he looked like he was playing in a wrong league. I do believe we will see him sooner rather than later in the NHL.

Yes. They have been there since 2016. They also played there before the Bradley Center opened in 1988. It was called MECCA.

The doors open 60 minutes before the puck drop. The Juneau (south end lobby) doors tend to open a few minutes before the State St (north) end opens. Probably 90% of the fans go into the Juneau Lobby. There is an elevator at the west end (left) when you come inside.

The Admirals host the first place Grand Rapids Griffins (Detroit affiliate) tonight at 6 PM CT.

The Griffins have played 14 games and have 21 points to Milwaukee's 12 games and 19 points.

Milwaukee lost the first game of the season at Grand Rapids 3-0. This is their chance to get even.

GR's scorers are Dominik Shine (4-9-13), AUSTIN WATSON (2-9-11) and Amadeus Lombardi (6-5-11).

The Ads are led by Hinostroza (5-13-18), Kemell (4-6-10), Bellows (5-5-10) and Schaefer (8-1-9).

Vinnie Hinostroza leads the AHL in scoring with his 18 points and is second with his 1.50 PPG.
No other players in this game are in the Top 20 in the AHL.

In other AHL News, Devin Cooley was the player of the week ending Nov. 10, 2024. Cooley in 4 games played made 81 saves on 83 shots. (Maybe Nashville should trade Calgary for him? He was a free agent signing with the Flames on July 1, 2024) When Cooley played in Milwaukee, he was as good as Ingram by the end of the season and actually WON some playoff games for Milwaukee. The next season, he played in place of the injured Askarov in the playoffs.

The starters are Chrona in goal. Prokpo and Livingstone LD on D. Schaefer at LW, Hinostroza at C and Ozzy at RW.

Grand Rapids arrived at 2:30 this morning after playing a home game on Friday.

Campbell is playing tonight for the Ads with Bellows and Kemell. After 7.5 minutes, the SOG are 5-3 Ads. The play has been even. The Ads have thrown several recent hits. At 9:39 remaining, the SOG are 9-3 Ads. Hanzel is on with Marino and Mutter.

The Ads have 2 in the box for separate Slashing penalties. GR scores with 7 seconds left in the 5- on-3 at 12:48. GR scores another PPG with 3 seconds left. OUCH, at 14.31! GR has the last 8 shots.

Schafer was knocked down, then punched in the face while he was on one knee. NO CALL!!! The SOG were 13-10 GR.

The Ads played fine except on the PK.

When I was walking around during the intermission, I saw Ads Team President Jon Greenberg talking to a man in a dark suit who looked like David Poile without any gray hair. It must be Poile's son.

In period 2, the Ads have the first 7 SOG. Cal O'Reilly just saved a goal with his defense. The Ads passing needs to improve! Too many passes to nobody or the wrong player. With 12:05 remaining, Watson drops the gloves with Marino in front of the Admirals bench. I did not see what started it. Watson tried to start something with the much smaller Kemell in period 1.

Schaefer just buried a guy on the end boards. The guy was holding Schaefer's stick. Charging minor to Schaefer. After the penalty expired, the pucked bounced from behind the net and low into the left circle and GR goes up 3-0 with an over the left shoulder shot. It was literally a bad bounce. #44 for GR keeps hitting Ads players after the whistle. He is GR's Captain.

Ratcliffe was Tripped in the Ads slot and a Delayed Penalty was called. The Ads went up the ice and the whistle was blown without GR having possession. Lots of booing that whistle while the Ads had 6 skaters on the ice. I think it was Offside. Lucchini dumped on the end boards 20 feet from the ref and no call. Tuomisto keeps holding Schaefer for 15 seconds and no call. The penalty expired after the holding.

Kemell drove down the slot and was Hooked down with 15 seconds remaining. Two passes and Bellows (6) scores 5-hole from the right circle with 3 seconds left. Ufko (2) had an assist along with Hinostroza (14).

SOG 15-4 Ads and 25-17 overall.
GR came in with a 14% PP. Now it is 22%.

Period 3 opens with a long shot at the edge of the blue by GR that was counted as a SOG. Somebody needs their eyes checked!

Gravel called for Holding at 4:36 of the period. Kemell (5) with an unassisted shorty! He lost the puck and got it back in the high slot. He immediately fired it below knee height and inches inside the left post to make 3-2 GR. The Ads come back at full strength and cycle the puck. A GR Dman trips Ratcliffe at the bottom of the circle and it was called. There is 13:03 remaining in the period. The puck went through the GR crease twice! Ozzy tripped down at the left post and no call. The Ads called for a questionable Offside. Didier, #44, trips Kemell in the slot and no call. With 9:46 remaining the SOG are 30-22 Ads.

GR cycles the puck and the Ads ice it. Big hits by both teams. Ratcliffe is down in the SW corner after hit by #44. He goes out the GR bench with assistance from Lucchini and another Ads player. It might be a knee. It looked like a clean hit to me in real time.

Under 7 minutes remaining. Hinostroza takes a stick to the mouth by #37. An Ads player bumps #37 and Watson comes flying in. Then all the skaters were in the SW corner. Minor on #37 for High Sticking with 3:40 left.

Hinostroza is slewfooted and GR immediately scores a shorty that should never have counted. The guy, Alex Doucet, that tripped him had a breakaway and scored instead of being sent to the box!

Watson trips an Ads player at the GR blue line at 17:57. The Ads pull Chrona to make it a 6-on-4. Ads player is Tripped, no call. GR hits the post. Ads lose 4-2. More "ref you suck chants" after the horn! SOG 35-24.
Chrona had 20 saves and allowed 3 goals.

GR could have won 3-2 or maybe the Ads tie it with their momentum. It should have been a 6-on-3 at the end!

The refs Graedy Hamilton (#41) and Jordan Deckard (#14) REALLY screwed up at the end! They robbed the Admirals out of a chance to tie the game up.

I really had no problem with the penalties called on Milwaukee. I did have a problem with the penalties NOT called on GR the entire game. The Griffins should have had twice as many infractions called on them as were actually called in the game. Count how many times that I said an Ads player was tripped. There were 3 in the last 3 minutes.

It looks like Bellows got a Misconduct at the end of the game. An Admirals player at the north end of the ice was yelling at a ref and sticking his leg out repeatedly, indicating what happened to Kemell for him to lose the puck on the half wall.

The 6321 fans all saw it. It is hard to believe that the 2 refs did not!

The Ads are off for a week until they play at 4 PM CT at Cleveland on Saturday, and again at 11 AM CT on Sunday. Karl Taylor said "who makes this schedule?"

Milwaukee has not played Cleveland (Lake Erie Monsters) in 3 years.

I thought that I saw David Poile's son on the concourse during the second intermission.
He was talking to Jon Greenberg, the President of the Admirals.

Maybe scouting to call up another forward?

Milwaukee (9-3-0-1) plays at Cleveland (10-4-0-1) in the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse for the first time since the 2021-22 season, almost exactly three years ago. It was formerly the Gund Arena and the Quicken Loans Arena and is the home of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Monsters are an affiliate for the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Admirals flew to Cleveland on Friday, but it was a long travel day as they had to change what plane they were going on out of Milwaukee.

Adam Wilsby is back for the Admirals. Fedor Svechlov was called up to Nashville. Isaac Ratcliffe is out for the season with a "lower body injury". I thought that his knee was injured against the Griffins. The Ads have 12 F, 8 D and 2 G on their roster.

Matt Murray (5-1-1, 2.12 GAA) will be in goal today. Gravel and Ufko on D. Reid Schaefer, Vinnie Hinostroza and Jake Lucchini up front. Murray has never faced the Cleveland Monsters.

Cleveland is led in scoring by former Admiral Rocco Grimaldi. Jet Greaves (3.40 GAA) is in goal for Cleveland. He is 0-1 versus Milwaukee in his career.

Before the puck drop, one of the nets is being changed. The one behind Murray. It must have been a practice net that was left out on the ice by mistake. There was also a hole in the ice.

Milwaukee gets the first PP. Hinostroza, Lucchini and Ozzy are the forwards. Cleveland killed the penalty. The Ads had 3 SOG. At 6:39, Lucchini gets a minor for High Sticking Rocco Grimaldi.
Gravel and Ufko with Kemell were some of the penalty killers. Schaefer and Ozzy are out for PK2.
The Monsters had no SOG during their PP. SOG are 7-2 Ads.

Aaron Sims said that the ice is "bouncy" due to a Creed concert last night. The ice also sounds sticky, which is the result of too much humidity in my experience. SOG are 8-5 with 7 minutes remaining. Nothing much happened during the rest of Period 1. The SOG were 8-6 Admirals, the score is 0 to 0.

Adam Wilsby is talking during the first intermission. He said that it was good to get a look behind the scenes for Nashville, even if he didn't get to play. He looks forward to another call up.

Period 2 starts soon. Aaron Sims says that Flo Hockey is having problems with the broadcast.
Milwaukee iced the puck at 8 seconds. They also got the first SOG of this period via Kemell.
Blankenburg and Matier are a defensive pair. Wilsby and Livingstone are the third D pair.

After a big hit by Marino, the teams came together. Somebody tried to mix it up with Mutter and got knocked on his butt. Marino gets 2 minutes for Charging. Cleveland gets a penalty for Hooking Kemell behind the net 25 seconds later. It is 4-on-4 hockey. The Ads are getting the better of the play at the moment. Schaefer gets tripped at 4:37 and the Ads will have 23 seconds of 5-on-3. Blankenburg and Matier are out with Hinostroza, Lucchini and Kemell. (The Ads have been playing 5 forwards on the PP at times. Without Svechkov, they aren't doing that.} No PPG for Milwaukee. The Ads become shorthanded at 7:18 of the period, Livingstone for Holding the Stick. A Monster just fell down while trying to play the puck, Aaron Sims remarked on the ice not being good. He said that it is never been good ice in Cleveland over the years. Maybe that is why no goals have been scored in half of a game? The Ads killed the penalty. With 9 minutes remaining, the SOG are 14-9 Admirals. Cleveland had a flurry of shots to make it 14-13. Cleveland ended by hitting one of their own players with a shot that would have gone into the net.

Cleveland scored on a wraparound that went off of Murray's right pad and to another Monster for a goal to make it 1-0 at 12:55 of the period. Cleveland gets a minor for Interference at 13:49.
The speedy Alex Campbell is on the ice with Kemell, Lucchini, Ufko and Blankenburg. The Monsters killed the penalty. With 3:38 remaining, the SOG are 15 each. Cleveland scores a second goal, this time off of Murray's right arm and into the net. At the other end, a late whistle results in Schaefer getting an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty. The Cleveland goalie did not have possession of the puck and Schaefer went after it in the crease. Then the whistle blew. That could have been a goal for Milwaukee. SOG 12-8 Cleveland and the score is 2-0 Monsters.

Period 3. The Ads have had one SOG in the last 13 minutes of the game. Cleveland scores again, about 2 minutes into the period to make it 3-0. The SOG are 4-1 Cleveland. The Ads turn the puck over at their Blue line at 8:46 and it is 4-0 Cleveland. Schaefer gets into a fight after a big hit against a Cleveland player. They both get Majors for Fighting.

Marino (1) scores for Milwaukee at 17:21 with assists to Mutter (2) and Wilsby (3) to make it 4-1. He beat Jet Greaves low on the glove side. That was the final score. The SOG were 11-11 and 29-27 Cleveland.

Milwaukee is 31st in average SOG in the AHL. The teams combined to be 0 for 11 on the PP.

The Admirals 7 game road win streak was snapped. Cleveland wins their 7th game in a row.

These two teams play on Sunday at 11 AM CT.

I missed the Admirals game this morning.
An elf told me that Cleveland won in OT 6-5. Some people on Facebook claim that the winning goal was Offside. A few of those people saw the game in person.

The Admirals need to tighten up their defense after giving up 10 goals in two games. They had two of the top 10 AHL goalies before this weekend.

Offsides by like 2 feet.....like not even bang bang in real time. Just an awful miss by ref. Chrona lets in 2 (maybe 3) soft goals.

Lucchini/Hinostroza/Schaefer line was hot...all with 4 points.

Vinnie continues to lead AHL in scoring with 6/17/23 in 15 gms.......really deserves a call-up.
