Well Montreal wasn't shopping Subban when they traded him either, Pretty sure that if a team came along and blew away Treliving with a outstanding offer for Hamilton that he would at least have to think about it.

yeah, and despite the insistence of leafs fans, kapanen/jvr and a 2nd are not outstanding offers

Toronto media consumes all. The Dothraki believe that one day, it'll cover everything, and that's the way the world will end

I'd say a close to 30 goal, 60 pt scorer being paid less than 5 million for the next year+, a top prospect and a 2nd rounder most likely between 30-45 is a pretty damn good offer for most players, irrespective of other factors such as team needs.

No.

Put it this way...

Would you be happy if Reilly was moved (creating a huge hole) at this point in your rebuild for a winger that does NOT fill a hole, but is a nice player, but who is also only signed for another year past this season, a 'top prospect' (let's just skip what that means for now) and a 2nd round pick?

Yeah, I didn't think so.

Hamilton IS a really good player, who is playing really good right now (and has for most of his YOUNG career thus far), who is JUST as important to the present AND future of the Calgary Flames as Reilly is to the Leafs.

Honestly, JVR has much lower value to the Flames than to the Leafs. LW is solid - overly-stacked if Bennett continues to play LW (we will see once Gaudreau returns). He has no place on the Flames. Not a need.

So even if for the sake of argument that trade is 'good value' (which I say it is NOT), it makes ZERO sense for the Flames, and total sense for the Leafs.

Understand?

If the Leafs would really be in on Hamilton, then you will need to give QUALITY in that trade that makes sense LONG TERM for the Flames - a team that is only a bit ahead in their rebuild than Toronto is.

But JVR is GREAT. Flames should be happy! JVR is a stud!

JVR seems to have a place on the Leafs right now. He is a better fit on the Leafs now AND in the future. So why is he being shopped in every single trade proposal? Maybe because he is an upcoming UFA in 2 years, and will likely price himself out of the Leafs' salary structure? Just like he would in Calgary.

Please, no more JVR to Calgary offers please. It simply doesn't make sense. I swear I will start a new "Wideman for X on Toronto" trade thread since it makes perfect sense, right?

The Tweet doesn't really do justice to what Burke said (which is typical of social media).

He said one GM called about Hamilton's ability and offered a crap deal. Calgary said no. Then rumours started that Hamilton might be available - leaked by the team that initially made the inquiry.

If it's true, it's a strategy that could easily backfire because what goes around in the NHL often comes around. It would be easy enough to begin leaking rumours about the availability of nearly any player in the league, causing unnecessary distraction.

As for all the, "Let's trade this somewhat useful older player, for a top-4, 23-year-old defenceman rumours," realistically it won't happen. The Flames aren't in a "win-now" mode. They also can't easily replace Hamilton. So unless they get good young players or top prospects back for the future, they have no reason to make a deal.

Lou stonewalls the media on the most minute of information and yet some here believe that he would go out of his way to cause this much of a ruckus by leaking something like this.

Yeah I don't see it being Toronto. Lou and Shanahan have played things very close to the vest to this point.

Of course but instead Toronto low balled and then leaked it like a bunch of chumps.

sorry but that's not what Burkie said

he said a team called and lowballed Treliving and then Toronto(this means Dreger who started the whole thing and spread it as clickbait) got a hold of it and LeafLand did the rest.....

Calgary Flames president of hockey operations Brian Burke did his best to put Dougie Hamilton trade rumours to bed on Wednesday, saying those speculating on a trade have “no god-damned idea what they’re talking about.”

Hamilton has been discussed as a potential trade target since the season began, with his name most recently being linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs(Dreger again).

Burke blamed the media for those rumours, which have included the names of Leafs players such as William Nylander and James van Riemsdyk and reiterated that Hamilton is not on the trade block while speaking to TSN Radio 1050 Toronto Wednesday.

“It’s very frustrating when you have to deal with leaks,” Burke told Leafs Lunch. “And as soon as one of the teams that are in the mix in the ‘leaks’ is the Toronto Maple Leafs…now it’s an army of leakers, an army of people who have no god-damned idea what they’re talking about, who will happily go on and say ‘the Toronto Maple Leafs are doing this and they’re in on that’.”

Burke said the team did receive one call with an offer for Hamilton, but the Flames rejected the offer.

“This is one where we think we can trace the leak,” Burke continued. “We got a call – our GM Brad Treliving got a call from a team who shall remain nameless – at least for now, if this goes on much further I’m probably not going to remain nameless – and said 'would you move Dougie Hamilton?’, and Tre said no.

so there ya go

It wasn't Toronto, learn how to read.

Also Burke has called Lou his mentor in the past, he's not going to turn around and call him an idiot. Does Lou look like the type to gossip? Give me a break.

Sounds like Tim Murray.

That Morgan Reilly guy sucks. We'll give you Frolik, Shinkaruk and a second. If you don't take it you're stupid. We're doing you a favour.

I think the GM that leaked it could be Arizona's GM, if I recall correctly when Kypreos broke the story he said Arizona and Pittsburgh were the 2 teams inquiring on Hamiton, and considering how Arizona's GM is young it wouldn't surprise me if he was the one that leaked it.
