Speculation: Doug MacLean: Demko not happy in Vancouver

I'd like to take this opportunity to say Doug Maclean is quite possible the dumbest hockey mind of the last 25 yrs. The guy somehow has gotten multiple jobs in hockey despite being an unmitigated disaster wherever he went. And now that he's a pundit we should listen to him. I think I'll sit this one out.

Isn't Doug MacLean the guy who, a couple years ago, was beating this drum about how Demko was going to have an extremely short career and it would scare off a lot of GMs?

It's like he's either got some insider info, or he's got a weird personal vendetta against him.

Whats happening here? Hockey media just hates vancouver or just a ton of internal issues. Quinn Hughes as the captain should at least try to sort this out.

Im pretty certain it was Frank Seravalli who said a couple years ago that a league executive told him that he'd trade him immediately because Demko's hip wouldn't hold up as he ages and that he'd be 'the next Corey Schneider'.

I have no opinion on Demko, but it's not looking entirely misguided at this point.

Is it just me or does it feel like there is a high amount of dudes wanting out of Canadian teams? Seems pretty disproportional. I could be wrong but it just feels like these guys don’t want to be there once shit goes south.

I mean, if you’re a player the Canadian media and fans (who are generally asshat homers compared to American fans) would absolutely drive me out of town.

Silovs played lights out and kept you in a number of games throughout that series. A few stinkers doesn’t change that.

And clearly a Demko that is not the same as before doesn’t either. Enjoy your season.

Silvos had a 906 save%.

Certainly not lights out. That being said, the Canucks need to have a look in the mirror and decide to either turn it around or burn it down.

Missing Demko, Hronek, and Petey (still haven’t found him) for a long stretch, the team is getting healthy and still likely good to make the playoffs if they can get their shit together.

Could play a major part in it all. Some of these guys getting paid well in cities with NFL/MLB/NBA teams probably go under the radar pretty well.

Most Canadian teams do have that fishbowl situation where it’s all eyes on them.

A healthy Demko is a top 5 goalie in the NHL with Vais, Shesterkin, Helly, Ottenger imo probably the 5th guy but he’s not healthy. He’s absolutely worth a gamble to a team like Pittsburgh IMO.

I would imagine 'not happy in Vancouver' is more about coming back from a long term injury starting poorly putting him in the 1B spot behind Lankinen so far. That's a reason to be "unhappy" but doesn't mean that it isn't all on him needing to get back to game shape and/or that he's blaming anyone in Vancouver and wants out.
