Dorion's biggest mistake in 2022...

Add as much lipstick as you want on Gus , he was not good last year. Just had to watch the games to see that.

I watched the games and it's exactly why I was still very high on him. Go watch that game we lost 7-5 against Colorado

But maybe I am different than most because I evaluate players mostly on their abilities. Gustavsson is just quicker, a lot more technically sound and plays his angles really well. Excellent puck tracking too

Just like your prediction on Matt Murray save percentage.

He had that SV% until injuries. I probably also said it would happen like that, he'd be great until he broke down again.

It's ok, I have seen people get high on Hammond and Mike Condon. I was trying to warn them that they were nothing special. Don't worry, I have had these arguments for decades

You take the netminding as a whole lol, not if I remove all his bad starts he’s good.
If you want to remove 10 worse starts. Then remove his 10 best starts, if you want to get rid of the outliers.
But looking at the whole is better than cherry picking.

Paul + Brown + Gustavsson ($7,637,500) vs Joseph + Motte + Talbot ($7,966,667)

That's pretty wild.

Really wish we had just re-signed Paul. Not only has Joseph been a complete flop but apparently trading him pissed off Brown and killed our chances of re-signing him, which obviously should have factored in.

Paul + Brown + 7th OVR + 3M in cap space (that could have been used to add a D) >>>>> DeBrincat + Joseph

Murray had a few bad games (statistically) all over the season, I said he had great stats before his injuries, that has nothing to do with cherry picking lol

Dorion did very well in most regards. But...

Not replacing norris with an nhl capable c when he went down was devastating as pinto turned out to be not ready for the full grind.

Then, hoping talbot stayed healthy and not getting a goalie with some nhl experience just in case put the final nail.

What team is going to give up a 2nd line C at the beginning of the yr when Norris got hurt & which 2nd line C was available at that time? They had Forsberg who played well last yr & they had Talbot who had a decent yr in Minny the yr before, why would they need a NHL 3rd goalie?

Both Forsberg & Talbot were hurt during the yr but it was never serious enough & they had Sogaard in Belleville, it wasn't until Forsberg was out for the yr while Talbot was injured that the problem became too big to overcome. And that is not to mention all the injuries Belleville has had in net this yr.

Pinto is in his first full season & has done fairly well & really looks like he is going to be a great centre for this team & should give them plenty of depth at C. This bodes well for their future & his future as he is gaining a great deal of experience under pressure IMO.

You need a guy like henrique for example, someone who could fill in.

The goalie thing was when Forsberg was hurt and we had Talbot as the only goalie with nhl experience

pro scouting and movement in the bottom 6 have been terrible. Still don't understand why we dealt Brown

Henrique has 33 pts in 57 games & pinto has 29 pts in 68 games, not tht big a difference in pts & I would argue that Pinto is just as good defensively & at faceoffs & he is playing in his first full season. I think Pinto has done a great job filling in at centre & is proving he is going to be a star in this league. They also could have moved Giroux to centre, he has played C in his career.

Dorion's biggest mistakes always being reactive never proactive.

Moment Forsberg and Talbot went down, you gotta go out there and get NHL backup.

Gotta get something better than Brown etc..

I was really disappointed we didn’t get a top 4 D during summer but with hindsight it’s obvious Chych was our guy and we should all be beyond elated that we actually got him without giving up a roster player or prospect.

I think Pierre has improved as a GM over the years, he has set up a legit 7-8 year window to contend for this team which technically starts next year with Stutzle’s extension.

His biggest fault is his loyalty to DJ imo.

That’s what has created a laisser faire mentality specifically the first weeks of the season and an insane lack of accountability.

If the plan was to trade away 2 years of draft assets so the team can be in 22 place overall that’s a terrible plan.

He wanted to play meaningful games. The team collapsed when those meanginful games came. Folded like a cheap rug

I love pinto, love him. He's gonna kill it here. My argument isnt that he wasnt good enough, just that he was thrust into a role that he wasnt quite prepared for and for stretches I think he looked out of place.

I think Henrique is better or at least more consistent defensively, but the bigger point is that even if Pinto is just as good, having him move up to the 2nd line leaves a big hole on the second line. Also having both would have allowed us to lean on one or the other when Pinto is struggling.

Pinto will be great in the long run, but he got put in a role he wasn't ready for.

Pinto is pretty atrocious defensively. Which is to be expected as he’s a rookie.

Shane Pinto won the forward of the year & defensive forward of the year while at UND. He is not atrocious but a very good defensive forward that was one of the reasons he was drafted by Ottawa & because he is also very good at faceoffs.

I don’t think he has been very good defensively this year. He has not looked the part and the transition to the pros is difficult.

Agreed he is very good at face offs.

Henrique has more experience & is much older while Pinto is learning on the job & has done quite well for a rookie put into that position due to injury to Norris. The whole 3rd line needs to be replaced next yr. Once again either it's half full or half empty & I prefer half full given he has had a very good season after missing most of last yr & could still be in the Calder race.

He has been in the Calder race most of the yr & could still be in it. How much more does a rookie need to be given he had to be elevated up a line due to injury & at times doesn't loon out of place & his line has been the best line in some games?

Isn't that to be expected from a guy in his first full year?

I like Pinto and his offensive output has been pretty impressive. 20 goals for a rookie is legit.

I just don’t think he’s a good defensive player at this point in his career. Have no doubt he will improve.

Pinto would have greatly benefitted from having Norris and Formenton in the lineup. Norris would have bumped him down to the 3rd line, where having Formenton on his wing would have helped him both defensively and offensively.

Formenton - Pinto - C. Brown would have been quite the 3rd line. Great for sheltering Pinto and helping him with his development.

He's proactive when he needs to be. He went out there and got Condon in 2017, which saved our season.

Did he though?

DeBrincat trade hasn't worked out
Paul for Joseph has been a flop
Gustavsson for Talbot has been a disaster
Traded for Hamonic instead of adding an actual top 4 D like Marino cost us dearly

Signing Giroux was a home-run but it's obvious that had a to do with Giroux wanting to come home rather than Dorion convincing him to sign.

I don't blame him for Norris getting injured and not being able to replace him, same goes for Formenton being banished, but his poor asset management during the rebuild is largely responsible for the lack of young depth in the organization that resulted in a terrible bottom 6 forward group that's provided next to no scoring help all year. That and his loyalty to DJ, a coach that doesn't seem to have much of a system in place 5 on 5 and prefers to play talentless plugs in our bottom 6 as long as they are supposedly responsible defensively.

The Chychrun trade was a good one but there's still a lot more bad moves than good moves on his resume. People have extremely short memories.
