Didn't watch the game. Had tea with my neighbor, and I don't like tea.

Rangers are 2-0 when I have tea.

1st time was when I turned off the TV when the Islanders scored the 5th goal in that outdoor game against us.

Wifey was so confused why I was so filled with rage considering I had chamomile and they had won.

What’s their record during fart offs?

Dude he literally chipped the puck out of the zone as he was supposed to. Rempe has no reason to make that hit as there was no way he was going to be able
To make a play on that puck. This isn’t even an instance of the victim of the hit turning into a hit from behind, he sees his numbers all the way.

He had ample time to re adjust and just press him against the wall or just pull the eject button on contact outright but opted to extend his arm and smash Heiskanens face against the glass.

It’s okay to like the player, but it isn’t okay to make things up to try to justify what was a major worthy and suspendible hit. He has the reputation for a reason and it isn’t because he’s huge.
Guys like Rempe can be dangerous because in their 8 to 10 minutes of play they feel like they can't pass on an opportunity to hit someone. It's like when we used to play the Sabres and Kaleta was on the ice. He was going to throw a borderline hit every shift and you had to be ready to defend yourself.

Everytime Rempe is on the ice and barreling you can hear the other team shouting to heads up the dmen retrieving the puck.

He's either going either to put someone on a stretcher or figure out when to pick and choose his spots better.

Why does he need Brian Boyle? He has a teammate, in fact a linemate, who is almost the same size as him yet plays a smart game and does not take many penalties and has never had a non-fighting major.
I wondered the same thing....but realized that Edstrom plays a different type of game than Rempe. In any event, you have to think all those minutes and coaching in Hartford did have an effect.....he played well most of the game and was in control most of the night...even drew three penalties. That's a huge step forward. I just looked at the box score. I would have sworn he played more than 6 minutes.

If that were the case, he’d never be called for minor penalties!

If there is a place where his rep hurts him it’s there. He was called for a minor on the hit that knocked TVR out of the caps series and I didn’t like that call at all. A shade late? Yeah, but that happens dozens of times in every game and you shouldn’t be allowed to selectively enforce it because of who threw the hit when the contact itself was clean. Plays like that are worth complaining about because there are players who get away with much worse in identical scenarios (enter: Sam Bennett.)

Hits like last nights hit are just bad hits. It would have been a bad hit if Panarin threw it. It has nothing to do with Rempe.
Agreed. Tom Wilson and the Sam Bennets throw questionable hits (or straight punches).

The old school refs used to communicate with players and tell them "good hit" or "that's getting late" without necessarily throwing the arm up to help guys like Rempe know the line. I don't think that's as much of a case.

In the AHL, it was a clean hit.

Seriously, because i didn't see how he played in Hartford but I didn't hear anything about late hits in Hartford the whole time there. Is he playing differently up here? Does it have something to do with trying to impress? Is it the pace that's messing his timing? Did he do the same things in Hartford that weren't called?

He's a young kid playing every shift like it might be his last. The mentality of having to be noticed and make a big hit to stay in the lineup. I'm sure it's not easy going into the game knowing if you aren't noticeable, you may be sent down, but he's gotta be more disciplined. There was an earlier hit in the game where I felt the refs game him some slack and would be a penalty majority of the time. He was drawing penalties and hustling well until the 5 min major.

Would not be surprised if consistent playing time or verbalized confidence from the coach would make these issues less frequent.

They gave him a top role in Hartford to develop him even with a tough start. He had the confidence that he wasn't going to ride the pine for 20 games for a mistake.

NHL players seem to hold the puck and spin away a lot more, which I think ends up with some borderline hits from behind. They also tend to just stand with their backs turned knowing a player can't rock them. That's kinda' what happened here. Rempe went full intentions on the hit the entire way and it was going to be bad from the get go. Everybody watching should have seen a penalty coming before the hit took place. The bear hug rule was shut down, but it's probably a change that's needed for players just standing with their backs turned.

Over the years I noticed Kreider started holdings guys up when hitting them. I did not like that but if the guy doesn't go down there is a lot less chance you get a penalty. Maybe Rempe should be shown that as well.

Most of the game? He played 5 minutes. Even if he played ok those 5 minutes it was still just 5 minutes that the other team “had to yell” to their teammates. So big deal. 5 minutes of “fearing” the Rangers 4th line. Then 55 minutes of normal.

Well, no, not 55 minutes of normal. He drew 6 minutes for his team to score a goal. Not his fault they spent those 6 mins doing nothing. I'm not saying he looked elite but he played well and probably would have gotten another shift if he didn't take the penalty.

Rempe hit the guy straight from behind and the guy's face smashed into the glass, cutting him. You could argue that it wasn't elbow to the head that caused the face to glass. It could be that Rempe is so big that his upper body smashed his head into the glass. But the fact is that he went face first into the glass. Looked like the Pasta on Lindgren hit and Pasta got the 5 and game i believe.

We won because Igor was great, now because man-child played 5 min and made us play shorthanded almost as much as he played
Many times we've seen Igor play out of his mind when he gets fired up and btw Trocheck was even better. BUT WAIT ..........you failed to mention that Rempe made us play with a man advantage for 6 minutes and in that 5 minutes he played he delivered only 3 less hits than Panarin has delivered all year.

Wasn't there also a rule that was supposed to keep players from standing that way and/or even turning their backs to an oncoming opposing player?

And it showed in his game last night even with limited minutes. To me, he definitely seemed in control more than he ever has. Drawing those penalties was an added bonus.
