You could easily take that quote to mean he didn't need any scouting report. That he is confident in Khudobin and if scouts/coaches said he was ready for the callup, then he's ready.

I'd agree that CJ put a shot over the bow a few weeks back regarding his team's talent, but I think that was somewhat overblown too. That could have been as much a shot at his players to step up their game as it was to the GM. And I'm inclined to think the coach and GM have a decent working relationship given how long the coach has been here and the chances the GM has had to fire him.

Of course all this assumes we actually have a GM...almost seems like rumor more than fact at this point.

I highly doubt he would have worded his answer that way had it been a matter of him simply not needing a report.

In reality, the question wasn't specifically about a physical report. It was open enough that it could easily be understood as any type of verbal or written evaluation.

I would hope a coach has a line of communication about his potential backup goalie especially if he was being considered to be recalled.

(I'm totally aware there's arguably some reaching here. Just some thoughts is all)

For all we know, the actual quote was "I didn't get anything bad back, to be perfectly honest. So with that in mind, he's good to go."

Haggs just decided to leave out the "bad back" because it was superfluous. Just like Thorton's diagnosis and Krejci's quote stating "people aren't watching from the internet", which Haggs quoted as "people aren't watching".

Wow does this article smash Don Sweeney 4 down by Fox Sports under Kirk Luedke article..
Reset: Anton Khudobin do-over. Zdeno Chara, Cam Neely snub? Fire the GM, re-hire experience. https://t.co/kHhJtJB5jq https://t.co/CDe4yaJq3e (via https://br.app.link/get-the-app ) http://teamstre.am/2kdvvGv

Kirk Luedke and ripping Don Sweeney in same sentence ? 4 doors down? Ok Luedke wasn't the one

Kirk's a heck of a bright guy and very patient I can't see him smashing Don

this article if I`m guessing, never heard of the guy who wrote it, nor do I care

http://www.foxsports.com/nhl/story/don-sweeney-ruining-boston-bruins-013117

Not firing Claude Julien: Win

Trading Dougie Hamilton: Loss......At least he should have made him available to everyone. If Chia offered him a better deal and he turned it down, thats a disgrace.

Not trading Hamilton for best offer: Loss
Trading Milan Lucic: Win

Trading Martin Jones: Loss......Not sure this is a loss yet.

Trading Smith for Hayes: Loss....Got rid of the Savy contract also so not as bad.
Signing Matt Beleskey: Loss....Looks pretty bad now.

Extending Adam McQuaid: Loss....This or Miller is a loss......I say MILLER.

Extending Kevan Miller: Loss
Losing Loui Eriksson for nothing: Loss.....Big loss, should have never happened.
Buying out Dennis Seidenberg: Loss...
Signing Anton Khudobin: Loss
Signing David Backes: Loss This cant be called a loss yet.

Looking at that and a few other things like the Liles /Stepniak and Rinaldo blunders,.......How can anyone say this guy has been nothing short of a disaster. He has not added one significant world class type player to the team. Unless you say Backes. But please dont. Guy is a slacker who constantly looks scared and seems really passive and timid....... Either he adds two world class players one on D and one winger at the deadline. Or he needs to be fired for wasting these guys careers. This group deserves the talent needed to compete.

Couple nitpicks:

1. I disagree with calling the Hamilton trade value a loss based on a comment from a GM whom the article says was in a riff with our GM. Really can't ding Sweeney based on hearsay.

2. The Savvy contract apparently wasn't that big of a deal. That's a pretty bad trade.

3. I guess you can't call the Backes signing a loss yet, but it walks and talks like a loss.

It's very exciting to find articles smashing Don Sweeney

Here's the bio of the author

Potratz is a 2014 SAIT Journalism graduate, host of the Potratz Hockey Podcast, a self-employed Country Music Singer, and a die-hard Edmonton Oilers fan!

Die hard Oilers fan!!! Bwhahahaha

Also I checked him out and here is what you get

Dougie Hamilton was a loss because they didn't get enough of Sweeney held a grudge or Sweeney didn't shop around

Yet they picked 3 decent prospects

However, the author who seems quite smitten with Peter Chiarelli doesn't seem to call out Peter for trading 16 & 33 for the single biggest bust top 4 prospect in last 4 years

Chiarelli could have taken Connor White Konecny Barzal and Carlo but when you are wearing I big Orange Oil on your pjs you get this crap

Brad Park 22 your a great fan and poster but check out some of these sources or writers

I'm looking into the source of this information passed on to me but Peter Chiarelli liked the Smashing of Sweeney article so much he arranged the hard core Oilers fan and author of the piece to meet Connor McDavid and get a 'what's up' with eye contact from Connor to Tran

Article makes sense now

Backes' numbers over an 82 games season are 21-21-42 225 hits 100 PIM playing a new position in a new system.

How is that a loss?

Well I just pointed this out. He gets paid to write them.:sarcasm: But on a serious note he is a bit smitten on Chiarelli I Will agree ..But a bit of what he pointed out is right too. I am not a big fan of Sweeney I have to admit thus making me a tad bias at times..But with that said I think it's fair to say he has not been over impressive as a GM and I have a fair reason to be skeptic. The next few weeks and what he does will go along ways towards Bruins future. I hope he gets it right cause at the end of the day I am Bruins fan over anything. Ps I consider you an astute poster here and always read your posts through and look forward to the discussions afterwards. :):):)

Do you know what number Backes wears? Can't say anyone has ever described him in this way. And with good reason.

Anyone have the link where the hard core Oilers fan who wrote the article on Sweeney rates the Sekera signing, the Pouliot contract, the Lucic deal, the Ferrence deal, Hall trade, Griffith Reinhart for 16 & 33, etc

Love to see hard core Oilers dude do an article to rate Chiarelli

How is that a loss?

Because you are giving him credit for pretend goals that he hasn't scored nor will score. He's not going to play 82 games, so the hypothetical goals don't count.

He's actually on pace to get 18 goals and 18 assists this year (maybe 19-19 if you round up).

Counting hits as anything means you are counting the times that the opponent has the puck. And what does 100 PIMs do to help a team win?

$6m should buy you more than 37 or so pts.

BTW great job on your team this year. You are rolling.

Chiarelli's been gone for roughly 22 months now, and yet we are still focused so much on him? (I did a search of the number of times his name came up in posts in this thread, the one about the present GM, and it's literally 3 pages of posts.)

The ex-GM is an awful lot like the current GM, IMHO. Both have made some good moves, and some bad moves, and some moves that are still TBD because they're not done playing out yet. Neither are as great as some pretend, and neither are as awful as some pretend. Both have strengths & weaknesses.

The difference is one is the B's current GM, and the other has been gone for going on 2 years. Might be time to let the Chiarelli Ship sail away. Or at least give him his own thread, so we can actually talk about the present GM instead of just comparing the two to see who's doing what.
