saying Backes is a slacker who "constantly looks scared and seems really passive and timid" convinces me that you`ve watched him play 0 times this year

I am talking about Sweeney in that part.....Not Backes The paragraph is about Sweeney. Jeez...

Backes is a hard nosed player No coincidence Hitchcock was fired today in St Louis They miss him over there

Would he go back ???I would take Shattenkirk back in a second even as a rental. I like Backes but five more years at 6M.....Not me, I can find other ways to spend. If he was younger OK, but now now. Would the Blues do that and admit they made a mistake ?

I have no issues with Backes the player The issue with him is term and $$/ He is over paid for sure. That's on Sweeney not us the fans That's why they need to save that last buyout.Might need it down the road.Fans here clamoring to use it on Hayes contract are crazy .

I'm backing off attacking this author because

Sources indicate Peter Chiarelli gave him an Esa Tikkanen 8 x 10 personalized photo for this

Peter is livid times infinity at what happened in Boston

What is his name on HF, I know the words I just cannot put the screen name to it?

need two to tango, look at the standings, there`s many teams who`s GM`s, I imagine, believe they are still in it and won`t commit to selling yet

Making a trade is nowhere as simple as many seem to think here (not necessarily saying you). Flat cap coming next season from what the Commish says

Here`s Elliot Friedman`s opinion for what it`s worth, starts yakking trade about the 9-10 minute mark

Did anybody see Claude's quote when asked by Haggs about Khudobin?

Per Haggs Twitter (I can't figure out how to embed Tweets)

"I asked Claude Julien what kind of reports he'd received on Anton Khudobin's play in Providence: "I didn't get any, to be perfectly honest"

If you ask me, this is a telling sign. He didn't have to give Haggs anything here (especially with their relationship as of late!) but he did the opposite.

The phrase "to be perfectly honest" IMO reflects his frustration with Sweeney. He didn't have to say anything, let alone "I didn't get any". But then to throw in the subtle TBPH rings clear that the communication between the two leaves something to be desired.

Good job by Haggs to get this small-but-telling information out of Claude.

"To be perfectly honest"

Words Julien says a million times when asked a question.

Seriously.

I don't know what Claude and Don's relationship is, but I wouldn't read too much into that quote. "To be perfectly honest" is right up there with "obviously" and "no excuse" on the list of Claude's favorite overused phrases.

That argument is somewhat true and somewhat not true .Elliott Friedman is using the general consenus .The cap complicates things I agree.. But one can argue Sweeney has wasted a pile of cap space that has handcuffed Boston somewhat..I do not have all the answers but if there was one thing I am sure of,Its Don Sweeney is the type of GM who scares his fans.Never sure what type of move he will make. No consistency. But let's just sit and wait .I want to see what he is going to do this deadline. Any moves he does need to help future .No more Liles and Stempniak type deals or I will really lose it

I feel like there are 2 Don Sweeneys.
One that works on the amateur side, and another that works on the pro side.
It seems to me, with my tiny bit of knowledge, that they don't work hand in hand.
So far, I like the former better than the latter.

.Word going around now he inquiring on Shattenkirk as a rental. That scares me.This team did that it has to be now not later(Rather moves that help team in future) They do not have time to wait and risk assets it would cost..If they are dealing anything on a rental it's now or never. No sense doing it with 20 games left.

It's SHOCKING that Sweeney hasn't done something by now to improve the team.

I'm not looking for miracles either... a backup goalie or a 3rd line center would have made a big impact on this season.

The Bruins are on pace for 88 points. Sweeney hasn't done anything to improve the roster, he has made it worse every year. We're going down the same path as the Calgary Flames after the 04-05 lockout.

I think it's a domino effect of things that is causing not just Sweeney, but other GM's from making a trade

- teams are awfully close in the standings and are unwilling to part with players still vital to their chances of making the playoffs and appeasing fans, owners, etc etc.

- expansion draft looming on the horizon

- reports of the salary cap for next year not increasing

- The teams that are clearly out of it and have players that are appealing feel that they hold all the cards and the leverage in the trade table and will wait until a team is desperate enough to offer max value

I don't like Sweeney as GM, but I think he is right by not making panic moves. This team has too many holes so the best option is the draft and free agency.

I`ll be honest, I`m more concerned about whether or not DS has the complete freedom or autonomy

Other than that, I watched Bob Mackenzie last night on Overdrive on TSN and have listened to Elliot Friedman both speak about the difficulty of making a deal now with so many teams who, while they may not be a cup contender, are either clinging to, or merely a few points out of a playoff spot and their GM`s so hesitant to make deals.

I don`t know, either way, my opinion is no player(s) they may pick up will bring enough to push this team into a deep playoff run so I start removing the excess baggage from this lineup personally.

Only trades/players I want in a deal are under contract for a reasonable number who have skill and can skate, not sure that`s even remotely reasonable to expect.
