Management Don Sweeney extended 2 years

I get it.

Not a fan of it, but I get it. Considering where the team is and his contract status, kind of saw it coming when they didn’t can him going into the trade deadline.

Bartkowski, Hamilton and Redden spent the finals in suits. Redden never saw the ice after the 1st round, Bart and Dougie never saw the ice after the 2nd round.

Elliotte Friedman just said on SN that he thinks it’s about the new coach’s contract, that a coach wouldn’t necessarily want to sign if his GM is gone in a year (because the new GM might want a new coach). So, if the coach gets hired on a three-year contract (which is normal says Friedman), then both the coach and GM contracts would expire at the same time. So, three (more years) then re-evaluate (yet again).

One of the most stacked rosters in the cap era lol. That's an exaggeration even without taking into consideration that Sweeney inherited most of the roster. His drafting has been bad in general and he made some completely boneheaded trades his first few years here. He has made good trades too and generally does well in contract negotiations.

Carlo was viewed around the league as a high end top 4 right sided defenseman which are extremely valuable, with an extremely friendly contract.

Bruins received a very late 1st and a potential middle six center... fair if anything but hardly a fleecing.

Marchand trade is for a very distant late 1st round pick. Not much for Marchand.

Sorry you have to give Sweeney more than that. He did a good job at the deadline.

Greg Campbell (Assistant GM) and Sugar Shawn Thornton are in the Florida front office and are IMO serious candidates to get poached.
They've helped to build a team that are what the Boston Bruins should be.
Also, it would be a huge advantage to see how another winning team goes
about their business.

Honestly if anything the focus on the 2015 draft is actually a good thing for Sweeney. It takes the light off his horrendous drafting in most of the other years since. They better trade the #7 pick because I'm scared of who they're going to reach for.

Fan favorite figurehead, most likely.

Then he got it into his head that he actually knew how to run hockey operations. Enter Sweeney at the earliest opportunity.

Also, Peter Chiarelli preceded Neely's hiring as president by four years. By the time Cam was hired, Chiarelli had constructed a good to very good team that went on to win a Stanley Cup.

Did Peter make some big mistakes? Of course he did.

Compare his record of *proven success* as General Manager of the Boston Bruins to the record of the guy who replaced him.

Professor Sweeney has been GM for a *decade* and hasn't done sh*t.

All you have to do is look at the playoff record. And that is leaving dreadful drafting and free agent whiffs to one side.

And we're stuck with him.
