Management Don Sweeney extended 2 years

I get it.

Not a fan of it, but I get it. Considering where the team is and his contract status, kind of saw it coming when they didn’t can him going into the trade deadline.

My first thought too lol.

People refuse to let go of the 2015 draft, because past that he's been a great GM. Assembled one of the most stacked rosters we've ever seen in the cap era. Not his fault the players/coach fudged it up in the first round.
If you take a look at the season ending presser, *they* are the ones who refuse to let go of the 2015 draft.

If you haven't, watch the whole thing.

Utterly hilarious,

I have a question

why do you have a guy playing such limited minutes at all in an SCF?

you're proving my point

who ate the minutes Redden should have had?

to iginla, sure, absolutely, but maybe have a better back up plan than the corpse of Jaromir Jagr

Your 3rd pair for the 2013 finals.

Game 1 (Triple OT) Krug 19 mins, McQuaid 22

Game 2 (Single OT) Krug 18 mins, McQuaid 16

Game 3 Krug 12 mins, McQuaid 11

Game 4 (Single OT) Krug 15 mins, McQuaid 15 mins

Game 5 - Krug 12 mins, McQuaid 11

Game 6 - Krug 14 mins, McQuaid 10

Bartkowski, Hamilton and Redden spent the finals in suits. Redden never saw the ice after the 1st round, Bart and Dougie never saw the ice after the 2nd round.

Elliotte Friedman just said on SN that he thinks it’s about the new coach’s contract, that a coach wouldn’t necessarily want to sign if his GM is gone in a year (because the new GM might want a new coach). So, if the coach gets hired on a three-year contract (which is normal says Friedman), then both the coach and GM contracts would expire at the same time. So, three (more years) then re-evaluate (yet again).

It's the only realistic move they could make at this point with the draft around the corner, then free agent period along with the new HC search. Besides, for you Sweeney haters out there, it's not as if he can't be fired before the two years is up- it will just cost Jacobs money to do it.
So he's here for the full 2-year extension.

One of the most stacked rosters in the cap era lol. That's an exaggeration even without taking into consideration that Sweeney inherited most of the roster. His drafting has been bad in general and he made some completely boneheaded trades his first few years here. He has made good trades too and generally does well in contract negotiations.

You know what doesn't get discussed enough with Sweeney? That the lack of picks (and therefore lack of prospects) is not simply a matter of "they traded picks to improve the team every deadline." They moved some fantastic, valuable high picks to unload his shitty free agent signings, the worst kind of double GM whammy.

Its not that people "hate him" I think we acknowledge that he's done some good things, specifically with trades. The problem is how much rope can you give mediocrity? A huge part of this teams issue this year and years past has to do with the lackluster (thats putting it nicely) drafting record. Even taking 2015 out of it, he's not good. He's great at trading but garbage at signing players and drafting. 1 out of the 3 main skills that you would judge a GM on unless I'm missing something here.
Why sre Scott Bradley and Dennis Bonvie still employed by the Boston Bruins?

Some media type should ask this basic question.

But they won't.

Sounds like a job for Ty Anderson.

You could wheel KPD out there, too.

The Coyle trade and Frederic trades were excellent and one sided. Brazeau was excellent in that Lauko alone was good value in return. These are minor, minor impact trades however.

Carlo was viewed around the league as a high end top 4 right sided defenseman which are extremely valuable, with an extremely friendly contract.

Bruins received a very late 1st and a potential middle six center... fair if anything but hardly a fleecing.

Marchand trade is for a very distant late 1st round pick. Not much for Marchand.
Sorry you have to give Sweeney more than that. He did a good job at the deadline.

I guess the prospect pipeline isn't going to improve over the next two years and FA will be underwhelming. But Don wore the sweater and is friends with Cam. Lets be real, the Bruins aren't a serious organization. The Jacobs get what they want out of it which is making money, concessions, gates etc...but this team has under performed for the majority of Don Sweeney's time here. His trades, I'll give him credit for they've turned out to be very good. Free Agents and Drafting has been piss poor not even mentioning that abomination that was 2015. At some point give someone else a chance. Could have sacked him and gotten Jarmo Kekalainen before he went to the Isles. Darche? McDonald? I dunno bring someone new in with new ideas. But hey...everything on Causway St is fine.

Like I understand why they did what they did but that doesn't mean its the right move long term. You have to sell "stability" to a prospective coach even though I'm assuming its going to be Sacco or Leach at this point.
Greg Campbell (Assistant GM) and Sugar Shawn Thornton are in the Florida front office and are IMO serious candidates to get poached.
They've helped to build a team that are what the Boston Bruins should be.
Also, it would be a huge advantage to see how another winning team goes
about their business.

Honestly if anything the focus on the 2015 draft is actually a good thing for Sweeney. It takes the light off his horrendous drafting in most of the other years since. They better trade the #7 pick because I'm scared of who they're going to reach for.

Neely did win a cup in his role of President
Wow.

What exactly was he doing back then? I still don't know.

Fan favorite figurehead, most likely.

Then he got it into his head that he actually knew how to run hockey operations. Enter Sweeney at the earliest opportunity.

Also, Peter Chiarelli preceded Neely's hiring as president by four years. By the time Cam was hired, Chiarelli had constructed a good to very good team that went on to win a Stanley Cup.

Did Peter make some big mistakes? Of course he did.

Compare his record of *proven success* as General Manager of the Boston Bruins to the record of the guy who replaced him.

Professor Sweeney has been GM for a *decade* and hasn't done sh*t.

All you have to do is look at the playoff record. And that is leaving dreadful drafting and free agent whiffs to one side.

And we're stuck with him.
