Oh 100%. Just to be clear, when I say whiff I just mean they missed. Definitely a combo of bad luck and bad drafting.
The Kravtsov draft just sucked top to bottom. You can point to a couple of guys, but you can do that with any draft/pick.

I don't expect anybody under the sun to not take Laf or Kakko. Those were the picks. Kakko just wasn't it. The guy hasn't progressed an inch from the player he was for TPS. I put that mostly on the player. Laf was a player with bad habits and this team has only exasperated his bad habits. I still don't think he was ever a Hughes caliber player even with perfect development, but in this case, I put more of his development issues on the Rangers.

The biggest whiff is Lias Andersson. Always was. Undersized, couldn't skate, and barely produced in Sweden as a pretty old prospect (was already 19 when the season started). They took a guy who was pretty clearly going to be an AHL player 7th overall based on vague vibes of leadership.

Its so funny too because his "leadership/personality/etc" ended up being his worst quality lmfao.

They willingly settled on talent for it and got neither.

Lias also looked like a Swedish Ryan Seacrest. This organization at 34th St. always signs the pretty boys thinking partly of all the wonderful ads they can make and merch they can sell.

Its f***ing insane. Back to back to back to back Top 10 picks at 7, 9, 2 and 1.

3 of them aren't on the team anymore. Two of them straight up aren't even AHL quality and the remaining 1 might be good but is far short of franchise raising.

Yep! Drafting like this keeps the team in this endless cycle of mediocrity. It forces them to buy players who, while talented, are not players you hitch the wagons to.

Surely it wasn't as bad as the box score?

Five nothing and only 12 shots, it couldn't have been that bad in real life could it?

But on a serious note this is exactly what I expected when they finally went after kreider. This is the war that I said was coming since prior to Thanksgiving. Now you have it right in front of you...

Panarin, and hiring three shithead coaches in a row who deliberately shat on the kids from on top of their high NHL coach horses. Ultimately management is responsible.
Exactly. This backwards organization would never give the reins to the kids and let them go through growing pains. It's gotta be some kind of mob-style pecking order to doing things. Duh-velopment.

I’d literally rather be the Sharks right now.

Celebrini, Smith, Musty
Dickinson, Mukhamadulin
Askarov

Eklund, Zetterlund, Walman

Great prospects, a few good roster pieces and another high pick coming with plenty of trade bait available as well.

Sharks literally the textbook way to construct a rebuild. Grier made it work. There is still some work to do for him, but he's putting together a winner in the future.

It wasn't any worse than against Carolina. If anything, the team actually looked better in the first 30 minutes than the whole game vs Carolina.

Throwing the medal into the sands landed him 7th overall in the draft, picked by the dumbest franchise in the league lol. A perfect match.

I thought Lias was good in the AHL? Lol

I’d laterally rather be any other franchise.

Im sorry for my lack of posting and not making the GDT’s, but am going through some personal stuff, and my mind is kinda mush now. I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and happy holidays and hopefully will get out of this funk soon.

Aside from being 4-13 in our last 17 we also have been outscored 61-35 over that stretch. I’m so glad we could make Igor the highest paid goalie in hockey history during a stretch where we are sporting a highly respectable 3.6 GAA. Everything we do, we just do it big, ya know.

Someone who is less lazy than me please make a list of the number of goals this team has scored by game this month . I’m guessing a lot of 1s and 2s, a couple of 0s, and maybe one or two 3s at best? Pathetic

I don't think the Devils were that good. The Rangers played like lazy bums. The Rangers effort was embarrassing. No emotion. No pushback. The Rangers are a defeated team going through the motions.

Went after Kreider? Get him out of here. He isn't the only one.

It's easy to dissect the high-profile picks and see exactly what you could have had.

Being realistic, I don't know if any of Laf, Kakko, or Kravtsov were changing Rangers history if they were a different pick. For the former two, it never would have been a different pick, so it's bupkis.

The biggest miss was Andersson, and even then, who drafted after him is winning a Hart? Maybe you argue Jason Robertson is that good (he isn't) and that was 32 picks later, so it's not realistic.

It sucks, but I'm not sure you can pin "we've never had that kind of player in a million years" on those four picks.

I think a bigger issue, overall, is not going for more swings with later picks.

We always seem to go for floor if we go past like, pick 20. Beyond the first round, the Rangers aren't looking at you if you're under 6'3", and it's usually some "devil you know" CHL player. The one time they took a flier on a #MysteriousRussian (Buchnevich) he was pretty good actually.

I remember having the discussion after the most recent draft where people panned the Emery pick. "Oh, what do you want at 30?" Anybody who could be anything, not a guy that maybe is Brenden Dillon if everything goes right. There's no possible scenario where EJ Emery's ceiling player is the missing piece and you can't like, just sign him or trade for him.

Keep going with that draft. Boilard puts up ok numbers but he's 6'2". If he was that talented, he would have been gone. Aspinall is another big f***er. Maybe he's Adam Edstrom someday!!

I know I'm critiquing a bunch of random kids we just drafted in June, but realistically, which one of them is gonna be Brayden Point or Kirill Kaprisov? Look at 2023 (after GP). A defensive defenseman and bunch of tall f***ers. Where's your Nikita Kucherov from that group? They already don't have the numbers.

NHL coaches just don’t influence on ice results that much.

It’s the players not being good enough and it always has been.
Meh . Look at the Caps right now and a few other teams like the Lightning and even the Penguins ( who should be way worse than they are if looking at their roster ) . Structure and good coaching does more than a person thinks .

Rangers' actions in that draft were characteristic of the organization's dysfunction. Took Lias at 7 & marketed him as a surefire NHL player - a "high floor" guy. Then they said getting the "guaranteed" guy at 7 made it possible to "swing for the fences" at 21 & take Chytil (who actually had NHL talent).

That logic reeks of failure. You don't get guaranteed guys in the draft. Stop playing not to lose. Pick the best one, treat him as something valuable, do good development.

My memory is poor. I did not like the swiss army knife pick of Lias at all but were either considered off the board at that time?
No.
Lias was anywhere from 6 to about 23, with moat having him around 16. However there were lots of D around that spot so he was almost the highest rated forward left and the highest rated centre.
Krav was slightly more all over the place but again certainly a 1st rounder on almost every board.

The only off the board pick we made was Chytil who most had as 3rd round or later...

dude if this is what you want, you're a fan of the wrong franchise.
