Does Crosby’s point-per-game streak end this season?

I straight up said it was a great season for a 37 year old. But to say he's dominant this season is a complete lie.

Agreed - but also largely irrelevant to what I said. He isn't 'dominant', but he is having a great season for his age.

Probably on the goalscoring aspect, agreed. But also irrelevant when the discussion is around what HAS happened.

Great that his expected stats are great, but his ACTUAL /60 even-strength stats are not 'dominant' (as per my initial assertion), and his ES goalscoring is terrible (offset by great ES playmaking).

40th in ESP/60
260th in ESG/60
(8th in ESA/60 to be fair)

5v5 on ice expected goals against/60 = 3.18 (2nd worst on his team, 28th worst in the league)
5v5 on-ice goal differential = +2 (217th in the league)

Crosby is good offensively at even strength/5v5 this season (definitely not a beast), and he is terrible defensively at 5v5 hockey.

Point being as I said in my comment (which clearly stirred up a lot of Pens fans) -> Crosby is having a great season for his age, and is still good. But he is not 'dominant'.
Another 1G 3A game tonight

Still more than Ovi Kuznetsov.
And he's wrong .Sid won 2 Con Smythes

Crosby with 12 points in his last 6 games, on pace for 89 now. Looking like another 90+ point season is very possible. Guy is playing incredible after a lackluster start to the season.
All depends on team strength. The Penguins have just gone 9-3-1 in their last thirteen games, which means the top guys did well. Prior to the current "streak", they were 7-12-4, and Sid had 21 points in 23 games.

I highly doubt the Pens are going to keep up the pace of the past thirteen games, so I think the most likely scenario is that Sid gets about a point per game the rest of the way, with some up and some down. In any case, he's aging well (so far).

Ppg the rest of the way gets him to 85. Considering he scored 94 and 93 the last two seasons and on pace for 89 now, yes 90+ is certainly very possible. Nothing remotely farfetched about what i said.

I find myself checking the Penguins box scores every other night to see if Crosby racked up a point.

Hoping he can pull this off, 20 straight PPG+ seasons is an incredible feat of consistent elite performance.

Considering his peak was cut short by injuries, this would be a really impressive accomplishment to hang his career on.

Then new question should be, will Sid end the last 45 games of this season with 2 ppg? :)

I have been doing it for ten years now :)

I promise MJ didn’t watch a single minute of that series.

I'm a Capitals fan and you think I didn't even bother to watch the Pens play the Caps in the playoffs?

Sidney Crosby was a complete passenger and recorded a paltry 2 secondary assists in 6 games while being a defensive liability.

Dude, I think the time has come for you to quietly exit these threads. I mean, I give you credit coming back time and time again under the heaviest of heavy scrutiny for the worst of the worst takes but honestly, if Sid upsets you this much - stop clicking the thread.

At this point, I can comfortably say that more people support the flat earth theory than your takes in this thread. And quite frankly, they can conjure up better arguments. I am more inclined to sit across from them and have them tell me about ice walls of Antarctica than listen to why 37 points in 22 games is not over 1.0 ppg or whatever mental gymnastics you are using to say Sid didn't deserve the CS in either Cup year.

Is it not enough to already be known as "that guy"?

I hope that the Pens make the playoffs, which seemed impossible at the start of the season really.

Sometime in the new year he will pass sakic and be 9th in all time scoring and then Mario will be next.

Mario 1723
Sakic 1641
Crosby 1635

So sometime next year he will become the Penguins all time leading scorer should be quite the night if he does it at home.

Crosby was a inch or two away of a disallowed goal for offsides from a 5 point night.

Dude has been on fire the last week or so. Almost every shift the 1st line had last night created scoring chances.

What a legend.

Needs an outlet for the seething rage and impotence of watching Crosby stretch out to a 60 point lead on Ovi having played 150 fewer games. Bring playoff scoring into the equation and that man knows he’s going to continue being a public laughing stock when he’s shrieking “but GOALS” to the masses 10 years from now when Crosby ultimately sits 250+ points ahead of the lazy oaf.

Sid woulda broke 100 points the last two seasons with a half decent PP. Interestingly he’s not scoring much more on the PP now, where Pittsburgh’s PP is much better, but maybe that’s because the second unit is doing well.

I just find it comical that after 20 years some people can't just sit back and appreciate both players. As a die hard Pens fan, I'm rooting for Ovie to break the record. The loudest I'll have cheered in years will be his 895th goal.

The internal seething and rage must be tough to live with because I think even he knows deep down it's ultimately meaningless. To let something so inconsequential eat you alive...woof.

Oh please Crosby scored like two less points than Kessel on that run. Im pretty sure If you would have made a poll on Penguins board on playoff MVP before Penguins - Sharks game 6 Crosby is the leader. Then he goes and has fantastic game 6. But no...Crosby is boring Canadian...The edgy people here refuse to give him any credit

Crosby's body of work is exemplary and i nearly always defend him but the only place i agree with the detractors is the 2016 conn smythe. I'd personally have him 4th on the conn smythe list that year. As great as he played, he was very much a cog on the absolute machine that was the 2016 penguins.

I think Letang should have won it, that was him at his absolute peak. He was absolutely dominating games with his skating and puck possession. Missing him is the biggest reason the 2017 team had such a struggle to win.

After that I'd probably have Matt Murray then Kessel. Murray was 15-6, 2.08 GAA and .923 sv%. And Kessel of course that lead the playoffs in scoring.

I seem to remember Crosby being the best player in the finals, and was also very good in the third round but the first 3 rounds were Letang overall and especially the first 2. Kessel ultimately scored more than Crosby against weaker matchups but not sure I would say he was certainly better overall.

Really? It wasn't as dominant as 2016 but they won in almost the same amount of games as 2016. They could have been more dominant if Crosby clearly wasn't dinged up for a few games aftter getting concussed in Game 3 of the Caps series. Crosby gets them up 2-0 then the Pens almost lose after Crosby is out/less than 100%.

That they didn't seem to lose a beat in 2017 w/o Letang is a testament to Crosby if anything.

Crosby was the centrepiece of a very dominant SC winner in 2016; if he didn't win the CS that year it changes nothing as that run is only the 4th or 5th best of career anyways.

I am a Pens fan who watched every minute of every game and I say it was Letang's.

That being said, any of Crosby, Letang, Murray or Kessel would have been more than fine.
This is why people obsessed simply by counting trophies need to be called out and ironically the guy who brought this up hides when the same CS argument for Kuz over Ovie is brought up.

The actual performances are what matters and Crosby's insane PPG+ prime is his lasting legacy and part of the argument for him being 5th all time right now.

2017 the penguins were getting caved in often in terms of possession. That would not have happened if Letang was there. Crosby fully deserved the 2017 CS, no argument from me there. Malkin had a case but Crosby was stronger in the finals so it was the correct choice.
