the question was meant to sarcastic ..... anything but a tough question. Not a real tough question...Crosby and Gretzky
Crosby being 24th in points and 95th in goals isn't really 'dominant'...Sid and Ovie both being dominant in 2024 is amazing
How many 37yo+ players have been PPG?Crosby being 24th in points and 95th in goals isn't really 'dominant'...
Great season for a 37 year old though.
13 in history. Still marvel at Sakic hitting 100 at age 37. Age 38 is where it becomes a graveyard, with Oates being the only player above a ppg.How many 37yo+ players have been PPG?

Gordie Howe has collected the most points by a player older than 35 in a season, with 103 points in 1968-69.www.statmuse.com
I see 4 in recent years. Pretty good company.
Scoring goals like a first liner and getting points like the best player on the team. Pretty rad.Crosby being 24th in points and 95th in goals isn't really 'dominant'...
Great season for a 37 year old though.
I think he will end up higher by the end of the seasonCrosby being 24th in points and 95th in goals isn't really 'dominant'...
Great season for a 37 year old though.
Crosby is still a beast at even strengthCrosby being 24th in points and 95th in goals isn't really 'dominant'...

Age 39 has 4 players above a PPG:13 in history. Still marvel at Sakic hitting 100 at age 37. Age 38 is where it becomes a graveyard, with Oates being the only player above a ppg.

True but none past 1980. Modern game is too fast for 39+ year olds to dominate. Ovechkin was having a special year until he got hurt.Age 39 has 4 players above a PPG:

Good point. I didn't catch the 1980 part.True but none past 1980. Modern game is too fast for 39+ year olds to dominate. Ovechkin was having a special year until he got hurt.
I know, I can't help it.....I like answering questionsthe question was meant to sarcastic ..... anything but a tough question.
Just threw it in for the Crosby basher on this thread.

I straight up said it was a great season for a 37 year old. But to say he's dominant this season is a complete lie.How many 37yo+ players have been PPG?
Agreed - but also largely irrelevant to what I said. He isn't 'dominant', but he is having a great season for his age.Scoring goals like a first liner and getting points like the best player on the team. Pretty rad.
Probably on the goalscoring aspect, agreed. But also irrelevant when the discussion is around what HAS happened.I think he will end up higher by the end of the season
Great that his expected stats are great, but his ACTUAL /60 even-strength stats are not 'dominant' (as per my initial assertion), and his ES goalscoring is terrible (offset by great ES playmaking).Crosby is still a beast at even strength
That's a relative term anyway. You could say anyone in the top 30 in scoring is a dominant player. Really depends on how you define it.I straight up said it was a great season for a 37 year old. But to say he's dominant this season is a complete lie.

40th in ESP/60
260th in ESG/60
(8th in ESA/60 to be fair)
5v5 on ice expected goals against/60 = 3.18 (2nd worst on his team, 28th worst in the league)
5v5 on-ice goal differential = +2 (217th in the league)
Crosby is good offensively at even strength/5v5 this season (definitely not a beast), and he is terrible defensively at 5v5 hockey.
Point being as I said in my comment (which clearly stirred up a lot of Pens fans) -> Crosby is having a great season for his age, and is still good. But he is not 'dominant'.
as opposed to yours being completely incorrect?Crosby earned 1 Conn Smythe. His 65 point / 21 goal pace as a defensive liability is a farce.
There are far better achievements for the Crosby argument to hinge on.
Regardless, your retort is a complete non sequitur.
