Does anyone actually like DaveArt masks?

I have no opinion on him. Really though, goalie masks are pretty far down on the list of things I care about in hockey. Other than Lundqvist's mask I couldn't tell you what any other goalie's mask looks like.

I think he is a heckuva god artist, but his masks are too detailed and busy for my taste. He would dominate the van scene of the 1970's.

But the guy literally has not evolved his style outside of using the most useless new fad possible with the glow in the dark stuff.

It's not even new most of the time. I'm surprised he hasn't tried to TM an airbrush as his "exclusive Urethane Nebulization Delivery Tech 3000" or some other such pomposity.

Yes. The goalies themselves evidently like them which is the only thing that matters. They're not for the fan's pleasure, they're personal pieces belonging to the goalies. I really don't think Cory Schneider cares what Joe Shmo from ****-all Manitoba thinks about his mask.

I don't think intricate detailing is as much of a problem on masks as much as simply being too busy is.

The Hirsch and Vanbiesbrouck masks on the previous page were detailed, but the designs work because they're still relatively clean and simple in terms of execution. Looking through this thread, a lot of DaveArt designs are quite well done at the core, but then they're hurt by this running theme of filling every piece of empty space with some other piece of design.

It's the Dane Cook rule.

At first everyone was like, oh wow, these look cool, so much going on. People were seeing something different and unknown. Then DaveArt started getting over exposed, so it became the fashionable thing to bash on his work.

In my mind, it takes great skill and talent to do what he does, and to try to find new ideas is a completely different skill in itself. I like his stuff.

Good technical artist; terrible designer. Not like the concepts are bad, it's just that he doesn't know when to stop

I don't buy that it's just a cool to hate him thing. Too much is just too much. Like many has said, he often ruins great ideas with his show-off-glazing-thing. He's gifted and skilled but seriously lacks taste. Don't like.

The same thing is I don't like Yngwie Malmsteen or Stevie Vai but love SRV, Van Halen, Mark Knopfler, Randy Rhoads etc. Different taste.

Some of his work is OK, the rest of it is cluster **** of images and radiant colours which is hard on the eyes.

I definitely think he is talented, but I don't really care for most of his stuff. He's got some cool ideas, but there's just way too much going on. Sometimes less is more...

What would be the $ on his masks do you think?

Looks like DaveArt only does custom airbrushed masks for the professional leagues.

If someone wants an airbrushed mask you can either enter a bid for his charity auction($1,500 USD minimum) or submit to his "Hero Contest" in which the winner gets a free mask done.

Judging by that I'd say he charges $1500 for the custom airbrushing.

They have another option for $495.00 that will be a digital print on some sort of vinyl that ad hears to your mask.

How does everyone like this one?

""Hudacek´s Moose buddy defends the Örebro castle, and King Kronblom…

In Örebro it is a famous castle… so to defend the awesome castle Julius called his blue Moose buddy who always pop up on his mask… And the Moose dress up as a Knight, ready to defend the castle… and the King of Örebro…

And who is the king there in the blue hat? Yep, that is Örebro´s own famous cartoon, Kronblom.

Kronblom is a classic Swedish cartoon, and with him on the mask as the King Of Örebro, yea that will for sure be an awesome tribute to the city of Örebro.

It is always fun to transform masks into something else, and to create the mask into a castle was a fun ride.Just as usual the mask is loaded with details all over the mask and all the DAVEART Trademark Super FX, and so much more.

Julius, I love to be your mask artist and always come up with new funny mask ideas for you

Thank you all for your interest.❤

I like that mask alot because he kept it generally a bit more sample. Large castle design, two main characters (one on either side), and the goalies name along the chin. It's been beaten to death in this thread but that's how I think masks should be, clean and simple. Daveart masks generally just have way too much going on.

And now that someone has pointed out the lense flare gleam things he puts on logos I can't unsee it.
