Does anyone actually like DaveArt masks?

Still haven't explained why you dislike them
This will suffice for now

They're the Ed Hardy t-shirts of goalie masks.

he is not suited for making art on goalie masks in my opinion. His work is too detailed in a way and it has way too much going on in it. I have a feeling that if he actually toned it down a bit, it could actually look decent.

They look kind of tasteless to me, I prefer simpler and more minimal designs.

They're the Brett Ratner of goalie masks.

People always go on about "herp derp the goalies asked him to do it like that" except they probably didn't

What probably happens is they sit down with him, give him a list of images they want. Take Lundqvist for example, he'll want his usual statue of liberty on the side and maybe "HANK" or "RANGERS" on it somewhere and number 30

Then DaveArt goes nuts and is all like "OOH AND I CAN ALSO DO THIS AND THIS AND THIS AND MAYBE MAKE IT GLOW IN THE DARK LIKE THIS AND LENS FLARES EVERYWAAHHH" and the goalies just smile and nod and are like "sure, whatever"

I really wish more goalies would go with a rather plain, minimalist style in a similar fashion to Hiller's masks.

His Team Switzerland mask was particularly sexy, especially since it was simply a variant of his regular Anaheim cage.

DaveArt is incapable to create something lasting, mask that would stand the test of time. Instead he loads them with minor details like a kid using MS paintbrush. He should have few classics by now. That series with Lundqvist was pure garbage.

Goalies have more say in what goes on their masks than Dave does. And you're 100% clueless if you honestly think a goalie is gonna wear a mask he doesn't like.

Dave is a very talented artist and very good mask painter. If Bauer's clients disliked Dave's artwork so badly, Dave would be out of a job.

You not liking his work =/= Dave being a bad artist

I don't like a lot of his work, but I hope he never stops churning them out. The ******** over his masks is endlessly entertaining.

So, since we don't own the mask, we shouldn't be able to have an opinion of if we like them or not?

My opinion; they have too much detail which makes them hard to read from 20+ feet away.

He does not use the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid)
He didn't say you weren't entitled to an opinion, he just said that your opinion is irrelevant.

Hit or miss for me. Had to unfollow him on Instagram for over posting. The glow in the dark stuff is dumb. He can get carried away with it.

he is experimenting and trying new things while pushing the envelope

why do so many hockey fans treat innovation as anathema?

the fact baseball introduced a coach's challenge before the nhl is kind of laughable if you think about it

to quote an arch enemy song: "slaves of yesterday, you are blind, blind, to the sunrise."

I must confess I honestly had no idea his work was so hated until I saw this thread. It's a little busy, sure, but, meh. Doesn't strike me as being overly ostentatious or evil or whatever. This reaction seems a little extreme. :dunno:

Idk who DaveArt is? Franny Drummond has done most of the Flyers goalies recent Masks and I think he does a pretty good job

My biggest issue with DaveArt is that I don't understand why he needs to add the Lens flares all over the place.

The masks are already coated in glossy paint. They will already pick up reflections from the lighting in the stadiums. It makes no sense.

If you don't mind me asking, what is lens flare?
