NBA titles=/=value

$$$=value

Would you rather own a team in Detroit or San Antonio, or a team in LA/NY.

Just reading that reminds me how marketing budgets actually inflate a team's value; just look at the traditional big market teams like the Lakers and Yankees on their respective leagues.

Sterling now filing a $1B claim against the NBA.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) --
Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling is filing a $1 billion lawsuit against the NBA, his attorney Maxwell Blecher has confirmed to Eyewitness News.

The lawsuit could be filed as early as Friday afternoon, alleging breach of contract, violation of constitutional rights and violation of anti-trust laws.

On Friday, the NBA also canceled its hearing to consider Donald Sterling's ownership of the Clippers, saying the team will be sold to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.

The NBA had charged Donald Sterling with damaging the league by making racist comments and planned the hearing for Tuesday, where league owners could have terminated his ownership - and Shelly's as well.

No way. They are twice as popular and have a substantially large fan base but at certain financial point the returns cap out.

You would think, but the Lakers' revenue as a whole is probably worth more in one year than the Clippers in the franchise's existence.

Sterling is going to make a ton of money. What a ruthless, businessman. He also does have some solid footing with his lawsuit against the NBA.

He may even get a settlement out of that, NBA just may pay him off, to go away.

For those who follow the nba, if Carmelo opts out of his final year, are there rumors of him signing here with the lakers, since Kobe and Carmelo are pretty good friends?

There are reports that part of the deal to sell had a clause that nobody involved could sue the league.

"The NBA, Shelly Sterling and the Sterling Family Trust today resolved their dispute over the ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers," the NBA said in a statement. "... Mrs. Sterling and the Trust also agreed not to sue the NBA and to indemnify the NBA against lawsuits from others, including from Donald Sterling."

Jeanie Buss has said she is not gonna interfere with Phil's concurrent task of bringing the Knicks its 3rd-EVER NBA Title.

Lakers are already a mess.

Adding that selfish loser to the team would make them a bigger mess.

CBS News asks a very logical question...why fight in court for $1B when it can be handed to you in a sale?

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/donald-sterling-scandal-how-to-make-1-billion/

The story answers the question. It's not about the money to Sterling, who is already a billionaire. It's about winning...keeping the team and clearing his name.

Not surprising really.

What nonsense? Sterling is out and that's all that ****in matters!

The whole thing is a damn circus. He's guilty of nothing more than being an *******.

And speaking of another circus, the NBA just fined Phil Jackson US$25K for tampering, because of wanting Derek Fisher to be the head coach of the New York Knicks.

 Yet they have no issue when players discuss trying to play for the same team?

By all technicalities, Phil Jackson is a member of the Knicks front office and no longer an active player since. Remember the time Pat Riley was the Knicks head coach and had insider info, before abruptly faxing his Letter of Resignation and becoming the Heat head coach. Yes, that's how the Knicks accused the Heat, justifiably so, and got rewarded a first-round draft pick from Miami, as form of compensation for such tampering.

Do they actually think fining Phil $25k will do much at all?

The guy basically had a fine budget when he coached the Lakers so he could play mind games with the refs in the playoffs.

I know, it's more of a slap on the wrist.

Also, seeing how Pat Riley's Heat is in the NBA Finals, I sincerely hope he finally achieves a threepeat in his lifetime, even if it's with the Miami nWo. :naughty:

BUMP!

Remember Larry Brown, whom the Lakers beat in 2001 and got revenge in 2004? Yeah, Pardon the Interruption just discussed him as a potential candidate as a Lakers head coach.

Update: he's not interested.
